Abstract

The aim of this activity is to improve the ability of tofu entrepreneurs to manage their business finances well, so that they can support the sustainability and development of tofu businesses in Kalikidang Village. The implementation methods used include socialization and financial management training, including recording transactions, preparing simple financial reports, and financial planning. The results of this activity show an increase in the understanding and skills of tofu entrepreneurs in managing their business finances. The impact of this service is increased efficiency and effectiveness in financial management of tofu businesses, which is expected to contribute to increasing income and welfare of entrepreneurs. The output obtained from this activity includes financial management training modules, activity reports, and documentation of training implementation. Thus, this PKM activity succeeded in making a positive contribution to the development of the tofu business in Kalikidang Village.

Abstract

This article is the activities collected Indonesian transcript data from the web comic "Jajan Squad" which is translated into English as primary data obtained by reading from Webtoon Application. The "Jajan Squad" webcomic is a slice of life genre published on the Webtoon application in 2017. 'Jajan Squad' is among the top 25 most favourite webtoon comic based on the most loves and readers. The purposes of translating 'Jajan Squad' Webcomic is to translate the web comic from Indonesian into English, explain the process and techniques in translation, explain the obstacles during translation, and explain the solutions to overcome obstacles in translation. There are 11 translation technique (out of 18) used from Molina and Albir. The literal technique is most frequently used in webcomic translation, because there are many sentences that are translated word by word. The conclusion is that this job training report was conducted according to the translation process and only used 11 translation techniques (out of 18).

Abstract

The English taught to students must have a specific purpose and intent. For business, English lessons require teachers to choose the right teaching method. This study explores students' perceptions of using task-based learning to teach English for Business at Polytechnic Madyathika Purbalingga. This study used a descriptive quantitative approach. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The subjects of this study were 45 students of Polytechnic Madyathika Purbalingga. The results showed that students positively viewed using task-based learning in teaching English for Business. Students generally considered task-based learning an effective and engaging method for teaching English for Business. Its focus on real-world applications, communication skills, and collaborative learning aligns with the demands of the modern workplace. However, for TBL to reach its full potential, educators must address its challenges by providing adequate support and creating a welcoming environment for learners. Thus, TBL can play a vital role in preparing students for successful careers in business, equipping them with the language skills and confidence to excel in a competitive global marketplace.

Abstract

This article is entitled Creating English Promotional Videos for Cultural Tours at Tamansari Tourism Village Banyumas. The purpose of this article is to explain the process of making promotional videos in English the obstacles, and solutions in making videos in Tamansari Tourism Village. This tourist attraction was chosen because it is a unique tourist attraction that provides cultural activity tours and has great potential to attract the attention of foreign tourists. In compiling this research, there are three methods, namely observation, interviews, and documentation. In addition, there are three stages in the process of making an English promotional video, namely pre-production, production and post-production. Determining the video concept, making schedules, writing scripts, creating storyboards, conducting briefings with videographers and preparing tools are the preparatory stages known as pre-production. The process of taking video and sound recording is referred to as the production stage. Meanwhile, video editing and video revision is the final stage which is known as post-production. There are many obstacles in the process, but these obstacles can be overcome by several solutions. The resulting video is uploaded on the YouTube channel belonging to Tamansari Tourism Village and aims to assist them in increasing the promotion and visits of foreign and local tourists.

Abstract

Writing a business letter is a fundamental skill in the professional world, yet it presents various difficulties that can challenge even experienced writers. This research aims to analyze the common errors found in students’ business letter writing, categorize them, explore their possible causes, and suggest educational approaches to address these issues. This research used a descriptive quantitative approach. To achieve these objectives, frequencies, percentages and means of errors were calculated and tabulated. The data gathered by observation and documentation, where the documentation was writing assignment assigned by the lecturer. The result of research showed that students’ error in writing business letter were 55 errors. First, there were 29 errors in omission which were 52,7% of total errrors. Second, there were 19 errors in misformation which were 34,5% of total errors. Third, there were 6 error in addition which were 11% of total errors. There were 1 error in misordering which were 1,8% of total errors. Furthermore, the dominant errors in this research was omission which were 52,7% of total errors. In addition, brainstorming, drafting, peer review, and revising should be done as this improves error awareness and overall quality. Moreover, the teachers can assist the learners so that they will be able to draft business letters that are grammatically correct and contextually suitable.

Abstract

This Community Service Activity (PKM) aims to increase the knowledge and awareness of the Penembangan Village community, Cilongok District, Banyumas Regency regarding the importance of controlling hypertension through a healthy lifestyle. Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that is often ignored but has a serious impact on health. Through structured counseling and education, this activity provides information on risk factors, impacts, and strategies for preventing and managing hypertension. The methods used include lectures, interactive discussions, and direct practice related to the implementation of a healthy lifestyle such as a balanced diet, physical activity, and stress management. The results of this activity showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge and awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle in controlling hypertension. In addition, participants also showed a higher commitment to implementing a healthy lifestyle in their daily lives. It is hoped that this activity can be sustainable and become a model for similar programs in other areas, so that it can contribute to reducing the prevalence of hypertension and improving the quality of life of the community.

Abstract

Pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing bagi anak-anak di usia sekolah dasar merupakan langkah penting.  Di SDN 1 Purbalingga kidul, ada beberapa masalah dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Guru mengalami kesulitan mengajarkan kosakata, yang membuat siswa tidak tertarik untuk belajar.  Maka dari itu, tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk memperkenalkan flashcard dan cara menggunakannya untuk menambah kosakata bahasa Inggris. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian ini adalah pelatihan dimana prosedur kegiatan ini meliputi: persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Berdasarkan perbandingan hasil pre-test dan hasil post-test, ditemukan peningkatan nilai rata-rata siswa sebesar 24,1%. Ada peningkatan hardskill, yaitu 85% siswa mampu menyebutkan dan menggunakan 20–30 kosakata baru sesuai tema pembelajaran, dan peningkatan softskill, yaitu 80% siswa menunjukkan sikap kerja sama saat bekerja dalam kelompok kecil dengan flashcard.  Agar peningkatan berkelanjutan, pelatihan serupa harus diberikan secara rutin.  Flashcard dapat digunakan bersama dengan media digital, seperti aplikasi kuis visual, untuk membuatnya lebih menarik. Pengembangan softskill harus terus dievaluasi melalui refleksi diri atau peer assessment.

Abstract

Teaching English to learners should have specific goals and purposes. English for nursing is considered teaching English for specific purposes. Mastery of English is a very important aspect for nurses who are involved in medical services. The lesson of English for nursing requires the teacher to choose an appropriate teaching method. This study focused on Students’ perception on the use of content-based instruction in learning English for nursing. It examines the learner’s views towards the use of content-based instruction in teaching English for nursing, how well content-based instruction supports learners to master English for nursing, the challenges The subject of the research were 41 nursing students of Politeknik Yakpermas Banyumas. It used a descriptive quantitative approach. The data were gathered through interviews and questionnaires. The results of this study showed that the learners have a positive view towards using content-based instruction in teaching English for nursing. The positive learner’s view is the topics, materials, and activities used in class are relevant, meaningful, interesting, and useful to them in learning English for nursing. Content-based instruction supports learners to master English for nursing: learners actively participate in the learning process, learners use language for communicative purposes rather than grammatical patterns and learners develop their English language skills. Moreover, this study hopefully will contribute to the field of EFL teaching methodology as the study of English for specific purposes and in education research.
