Background: Food poisoning occurrence in Indonesia is increasingly growing. Studies also show that nosocomial infection of digestive tract happens in some hospitals because of bacteria transmission. Lack of knowledge, attitude and skills of food handlers about food safety will lead to high risk of disease occurrence cause by food. To prevent such on occurrence, training on food safety for food handlers at hospitals should be held. Objective: To know knowledge, attitude, and practice of food handlers trained on food safety at nutrition installation of Harapan Kita Heart Cardiovascular Hospital..Methods: The study was a quasi-experiment which used pre test-posttest times series design. Subject of the study were 40 food handlers out of 73 total population. Each subject was trained on food safety and observed 3 times (prior to training, 1 month and 2 months after training). Data were analyzed using SPSS for windows version 10.0.Results: After training on food safety given for 5 days there was significant increase of knowledge, attitude and skill of food handlers with p=0.00 (p<0.05) at the period before up to 1 month after training and at the period before up to 2 months after training, but at the period of 1 month up to 2 months there was significant decrease with p=0.00 (p<0.05). Respondent characteristics consisting of age education and length of work did not have significant relationship (p>0.05) with knowledge, attitude and skills of food handlers. Conclusion: There was increase of knowledge, attitude and skill of food handlers before and after 1 month of training.

Children at iodine deficiency disorder endemic areas might likely have growth and development disorder. Objective: To identify relationship between nutritional status and mental psychomotoric development of children of 12 to 24 months old at iodine deficiency disorder endemic areas.Method: The study was observational with cross sectional design carried out at Subdistrict of Cangkringan, District of Sleman. Subjects of the study were 75 children aged 12–24 months chosen by using consecutive sampling technique. Confounding variables were birth weight, mothers’ iodine status, level of education, job and family economic status. Other independent variable affecting nutritional status of children was mothers’ height. Data were analysed using chi square, Fisher’s exact test, and independent t-test.Results: Prevalence of low nutritional status was 13.33%. Children with normal nutritional status had average mental development index (MDI) 2.49 points and psychomotoric development index (PDI) 5.37 points higher than those with low nutritional status. However, relationship between nutritional status and mental and psychomotoric development was statistically insignificant. Conclusion: Relationship between nutritional status and mental and psychomotoric development of children of 12–24 months old was not statistically significant. Background: Most children already meet their daily nutrient needs through food intake. However, many of them still consume food supplement. Supplement use becomes popular, but the pattern of supplement provision amongst preschool children has never been investigated. As the supplement use increases, there is an increased risk of over consumption of several micronutrients. Objective: To evaluate the predictors of preschooler’s supplement intake related to mother’s socio-demographic and lifestyle characteristics and to compare dietary pattern and nutritional status of preschool children who consume and did not consume supplements.Method: This is an observational study with case control design. The subjects were preschool children enrolled at Bandar Lampung Kindergarten and their mothers. The case and control group consisted of 79 mothers, respectively. Sociodemographic information and frequency of dietary supplement consumption were collected via parental questionnaires, including a 24-hour food recall.Result: Most children consume multivitamin supplement once a day (65.45%).The most infl uential factor for mothers to give food supplement to their child is media exposure. Mothers from families with higher income, lower educated, consume supplement and highly motivated were signifi cantly more likely to give food supplement to their child than their counterparts. Excluding nutrient intake from supplement, there were no differences in nutrient intake between supplement consumers and non-consumers. There were also no differences in nutritional status between supplement consumers and non-consumers.Conclusion: The most infl uential factor for mothers to give supplement to their child is media exposure. There were no differences in nutritional status and nutrient intake between supplement consumers and non-consumers.
