Abstract

Seluruh atlet kategori stop and go sports memiliki status gizi normal walaupun persentase pemenuhan asupan sebagian besar atlet masih inadekuat. Rerata somatotype ditemukan bervariasi berdasarkan cabang olahraga, yaitu atlet basket tergolong mesomorphic endomorph (4,2-3,4-1,4), atlet sepak bola ditemukan balanced mesomorph (2,6-6,6-2,9) dan atlet voli termasuk central (2,8-2,4-2,8).

Abstract

Athletes tend move with a higher intensity and longer than a normal healthy human being. High intensity exercise coupled with high environmental temperature leads to an increase in body temperature and increased risk of dehydration. Given that the negative impact of dehydration on cardiac function and termoregulatori at practice, then the fluid intake and hydration status were closely related to the stability of the heart to maintain the performance. The study was carried out in 4 months. It was  an observational study with a longitudinal cohort design. The total subjects  in this study were 131 teenage footballers. Statistical testing using multiple regression analysis. The study showed that fluid intake and hydration status, and change in  body weight of the subjects before and after exercise provided significant effect on systolic blood pressure (P<0.05). Every increased in fluid intake and changes in body weight lowers blood pressure by 0.408 systolic mmHg, and increased in fluid intake and changes in percent body weight increase in blood pressure of 2.762 mmHg. The study concluded that intake of fluids as dehydration status protects athletes due to fluid loss. It was  because the activities becomes an important key to re-establish the systolic blood pressure. The more frequent training, the more increasingly athletes being exposed to dehydration, so that the systolic blood pressure  would continue to increase. It was recommended that rehydration for athletes - who experienced a weight loss of more than 2% - should be done immediately after exercise, asuming that 1 kg of body weigth loss could be replaced by at least 1 litter of fluid.

Abstract

Prolonged physical exercise has the risk of increasing free radicals which will affect the breakdown of red blood cells and promote the risk of decreased hemoglobin. Adolescent female athletes have a risk of decreasing hemoglobin due to menstruation. This situation can get worse if the athletes have iron defi-ciency or anemia as the result of poor diet choice. Increased radicals and anemia affect the amount of oxygen carried to the tissues and the maximum volume of oxygen an individual can use to produce energy (VO2 max). Beets have benefits for athlete's performance and have been developed into an instant drink. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of an instant FeSO4 fortified beet juice (BeeFe juice) in overcoming anemia on female adolescent athletes. This research using an experimental study with controlled trial pre-posttest design. Twenty-nine adolescent female athletes, aged 13-19 years, were divided into two groups. Fe tablet supplementation (containing Fe 60 mg) was given to 15 athletes in the control group and BeeFe juice (containing Fe 17 mg) was given to 14 athletes in the treatment group du-ring the luteal and menstruation phase (±14 days). Hemoglobin levels, Malondialdehyde (MDA) and maxi-mal oxygen volume (VO2 max) were examined before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using paired t-test and independent t-test IBM SPSS version 22. This research has obtained Ethical Appro-val with number KE/FK/0633/EC/2018 from the Ethical Commission of FKKMK UGM. The results showed no significant difference between the group given Fe tablets and the group given BeeFe juice on hemo-globin levels (P>0.05), MDA levels (P>0.05), and VO2 max levels (P>0.05) in the menstrual and luteal phases of menstruation. It can be concluded that BeeFe juice has the same effectiveness as commercial Fe tablets. BeeFe juice can be an alternative food ingredient in iron supplementation.

Abstract

Providing food for athletes is a special institutional arrangement that caters to athletes' specific needs. Athletes have different nutritional requirements than the non-athlete population, as they need more nutrients to compensate for the energy expended during training, competitions, and recovery after matches. Additionally, athletes must focus on fluid intake and sufficient nutrients to support post-training recovery for optimal performance. Therefore, meeting the needs and satisfaction of athletes becomes a crucial goal for athlete food service. Satisfaction can be assessed based on various indicators such as variety of menu and ingredients, suitable portion size, taste, serving time, packaging, and food handler hygiene. This study aims to assess athletes' satisfaction with the food service in athlete dormitories. The research is an observational survey with a cross-sectional approach involving 159 athletes aged 13-19 years from PPLP West Java, PPLP DIY, PPLP NTB, and SKO Cibubur. Data collection took place in May and July 2022. The research instrument used was a customer satisfaction survey questionnaire with a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 4, where one indicates 'very poor' and four indicates 'excellent.' The analysis technique used Pearson correlation in SPSS 16.0 software. The research showed a relationship between menu variety, ingredient variety, suitable portion size, serving time accuracy, food packaging, serving area, food handler hygiene, food presentation, and food taste with athletes' satisfaction level. Serving time accuracy, food packaging, hygiene, cleanliness of the serving area, food handler hygiene, food appearance, and taste correlate strongly with satisfaction.

Abstract

Background: The success of soccer athletes is influenced by physical, mental, and genetic factors, with nutritional status significantly affects youth soccer performance in Indonesia by 69.8%. Body composition and somatotype are critical components of nutritional status. Biochemical indicators such as creatine kinase (CK) and vitamin D levels provide insights into the impact of training and diet on athletes. Objectives: To determine the effect of nutritional interventions on improving the intake and body composition of athletes characterized by the value of creatinine kinase levels and vitamin D levels of athletes and an increase in VO2 Max values as performance indicators. Methods: This experimental study used a pre-post control trial design involving 39 subjects who were divided into treatment (20 athletes) and control (19 athletes) groups for one month. The treatment group received nutrition education (classroom, individual, and nutrition assistance) and vitamin D supplementation of 800 IU per day, while the control group was only monitored. The exercise was adjusted to the coach's program. Results: Energy, protein, and carbohydrate intakes were deficient among athletes, although fat intake was adequate. CK levels were within normal limits. All athletes in the control group exhibited vitamin D deficiency, compared to 90% in the intervention group, despite supplementation showing modest improvement. Conclusions: Vitamin D supplementation has a significant effect on increasing blood vitamin D levels. This study reinforces the importance of education and supplementation-based nutrition interventions to improve the nutritional status and performance of soccer athletes.

Abstract

Background: Body composition and sleep quality are body components that need to be considered in adolescent athletes. Both components can affect the level of maximum oxygen volume (VO2max) and become factors in increasing physical performance in adolescent athletes. Objectives: To determine the relationship between body composition and sleep quality with VO2max in adolescent athletes at Sidoarjo Sports High School and Sewon 1 High School. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 106 athletes selected by purposive sampling. Quantitative data were obtained using Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire, and the Multistage Fitness Test. The statistical tests used were the Pearson Product Moment and Spearman Rank. Results: There was a significant negative relationship between the percentage of fat mass and VO2max in both combined subjects (r=-0.669, p-value<0.001), male (r=-0.295, p-value=0.026), and female (r=-0.486, p-value<0.001). There was a significant positive relationship between the percentage of muscle mass and VO2max both with combined subjects (r=0.628, p-value<0.001) and women (r=0.492, p-value<0.001). There was no significant relationship between sleep quality and VO2max but there was a relationship in the components of sleep quality, namely subjective sleep quality (r=-0.34, p-value=0.01) and sleep efficiency (r=-0.29, p-value=0.03) with VO2max in female athletes. Conclusions: Adolescent athletes with a low percentage of fat mass tend to have high VO2max, while adolescent athletes with a low percentage of muscle mass tend to also have low VO2max. There was no significant relationship between sleep quality and VO2max.

Abstract

Purpose: The government program to prevent iron deficiency anemia in adolescent girls provides iron-folic acid supplementation, usually known as TTD or "Tablet Tambah Darah". The number of adolescent girls who received TTD was 76.2%, whereas 80.9% were given at school, and the rest were from other sources. The obedience of young women to consuming TTD is one factor that affects the effectiveness of the TTD program. Methods: This research was a cross-sectional study of a non-experimental design survey. The study sample was 159 people, 15-to 18-year-old adolescent girls of SMAN 5 Mataram. Results: Bivariate analysis showed that attitudes and obstacles were not statistically related to compliance, as seen from the attitude value p-value = 0.052 and resistance p-value 0.135. Obstacles have a relationship with attitudes with a value of p = 0.01. Conclusion: Attitudes and obstacles have no relationship to obedience in adolescent girls, while obstacles have a relationship with attitudes towards adolescent girls.
