Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the role of the Serawai language as a means of interpersonal communication in Tanjung Menang Village, Seginim District, South Bengkulu Regency. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The informants consisted of the village head, traditional leader, community members, and a university student selected using purposive sampling. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing based on Joseph A. DeVito’s interpersonal communication theory, which includes openness, empathy, supportiveness, positiveness, and equality. The findings indicate that the Serawai language is still actively used in family communication, traditional ceremonies, village meetings, and daily social interactions. The use of the Serawai language supports the creation of communication that is more open, empathetic, supportive, positive, and equal. It also functions as a cultural identity and social binder that strengthens relationships among community members. However, there is a tendency of decreasing use among younger generations due to modernization and the dominance of the Indonesian language. Therefore, collective efforts are needed to preserve the Serawai language as a cultural heritage and an effective means of interpersonal communication within the community.

Abstract

This research is titled "Representation of the Father Figure in the Lyrics of the Song Mendarah by Nadin Amizah: An Analysis Using Ferdinand de Saussure’s Theory". The aim of this study is to analyze how the father figure is represented in the lyrics of Mendarah through Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic theory, focusing on the relationship between signifiers and signifieds. Nadin Amizah's song Mendarah was chosen due to its rich lyrics full of symbols and metaphors, depicting the emotional relationship between a father and child who are separated. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a semiotic analysis approach, identifying words, phrases, and stanzas in the lyrics as signifiers that form meanings or signifieds. The results show that although the word "father" is not explicitly mentioned, the father figure is symbolically represented through signifiers such as "a separated soul," "my heart has long been broken," "different homes," and "bleeding into." These signifiers reveal meanings related to emotional separation, internal wounds, and biological attachment that remain despite physical distance. This study demonstrates that the lyrics of Mendarah function as a symbolic communication medium, depicting a personal experience of the father-child relationship and illustrating the complexity of emotions related to family bonds.

Abstract

Bengkulu as their university of choice. The problem addressed in this research is how students search for and utilize information before deciding to enroll in a particular university. The aim of this study is to understand the process, sources, and utilization of information used by students when selecting Universitas Dehasen Bengkulu. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving six new students from different study programs. The data were analyzed descriptively to identify patterns of information needs, information search, and information use. The results show that students experience uncertainty when choosing a university, which encourages them to seek information about campus facilities, tuition fees, study programs, student activities, and career prospects. Students obtain information from both informal sources such as family, friends, and alumni, and formal sources such as social media and official university promotional media. The information is compared across sources before being used as the basis for decision-making. In conclusion, information-seeking behavior helps students reduce uncertainty and strengthen their confidence in selecting Universitas Dehasen Bengkulu as their university.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the public relations approach in building client trust in cleaning service outsourcing at PT Zara Nusantara Utama. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The research informants consisted of public relations staff, company clients, and operational employees involved in service activities. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the public relations approach in building client trust is carried out through responsive communication, open handling of client complaints, and efforts to maintain cooperative relationships with clients. Based on the Relationship Management Theory, the relationship between the company and clients is reflected through five main dimensions: trust, openness, commitment, mutual control, and satisfaction. Client trust has been established, although it is still influenced by the consistency of service quality in the field. Communication openness and company commitment are demonstrated through responses to client complaints, although they tend to be reactive. The level of client satisfaction is categorized as fairly satisfied since the services help operational needs despite some inconsistencies in service delivery. This study indicates that the success of building client trust is determined not only by technical service quality but also by effective communication and sustainable relationship management between the company and its clients.

Abstract

This study examines the role of public relations of the Seluma Regency Regional House of Representatives in increasing public trust through digital communication on the institution’s Instagram account. The development of digital media has transformed communication patterns between public institutions and society, making information transparency, responsiveness, communication consistency, and public involvement important factors in building public trust in government institutions. The purpose of this research is to analyze how the public relations unit of the Seluma Regency Regional House of Representatives manages digital communication through Instagram in order to enhance public trust. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through interviews with public relations officers and social media administrators, observation of digital communication activities on the institution’s Instagram account, and supporting documentation related to public communication activities. The findings show that the Instagram account of the Seluma Regency Regional House of Representatives functions as a medium for basic information transparency by publishing institutional activities such as meetings, working visits, and other official agendas. However, the transparency presented is still dominated by visual documentation and does not provide sufficient substantive information regarding the results of activities or policy decisions. Responsiveness to public questions and comments remains limited, causing digital communication to operate mostly in a one way pattern. Although posting activities appear relatively consistent, the accountability of information is not yet fully developed because the content emphasizes activity documentation rather than the explanation of institutional performance outcomes. In addition, public involvement remains low because interactions from citizens are rarely followed by visible responses or follow up from the institutio.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze information verification processes in traffic reporting produced through citizen journalism practices. The increasing reliance of the public on fast and real-time information highlights the need for proper verification mechanisms to ensure that disseminated information remains accurate, balanced, and ethically responsible. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using content observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation techniques. The analytical framework is based on journalistic verification principles that emphasize accuracy, completeness of information, ethical considerations, and public responsibility. The findings indicate that information verification is conducted through several stages, including checking the completeness of basic data, assessing the relevance and timeliness of events, and applying ethical judgment prior to publication. Information that does not meet verification standards tends to be excluded, even when it originates from public contributions. These results suggest that citizen journalism has strong potential as a credible source of public information when supported by consistent and responsible verification practices. This study contributes to communication studies by strengthening the understanding of verification mechanisms within citizen journalism, particularly in the context of traffic reporting.

Abstract

This study aims to understand interpersonal communication among interfaith couples in maintaining harmonious family relationships in Rama Agung Village, North Bengkulu. Interfaith marriage represents a social reality within Indonesia’s multicultural society, characterized by differences in values, beliefs, and religious practices in family life. These differences may potentially lead to conflict if not managed through effective communication. This research employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method to explore the lived experiences of couples in building family harmony. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation, involving the interfaith couple as primary informants and extended family members as supporting informants. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, coding, theme development, and essence description. The findings indicate that effective interpersonal communication—characterized by openness, empathy, positiveness, supportiveness, and equality—serves as the primary foundation for maintaining family harmony. In addition, the socially tolerant village environment strengthens the stability of interfaith family relationships. Therefore, family harmony is not determined by religious similarity but by the consistent quality of interpersonal communication established within the family.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the Sore Ceria broadcast program on PRO 2 RRI Bengkulu contributes to strengthening the organizational brand image of Radio Republik Indonesia as a public broadcasting institution. Radio as a conventional mass media still plays an important role in delivering information, entertainment, and education to society, especially at the local level. However, the development of digital media requires radio institutions to adapt through broadcast program strategies that are relevant to the needs of audiences, particularly young listeners. This research applies a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including in depth interviews, broadcast observations, and documentation. The research informants consist of the program producer, announcer, and a local small business owner who has participated as a guest in the program. Data analysis was conducted using a framing model consisting of four elements, namely defining problems, diagnosing causes, making moral judgment, and providing treatment recommendations. The findings indicate that the Sore Ceria program frames issues related to youth and local entrepreneurs in the context of developing potential, creativity, and independence in the digital era. The program presents inspirational speakers, provides interactive dialogue opportunities, and delivers practical solutions related to education, motivation, and business development. Through a dialogic and constructive communication approach, the program functions not only as a source of entertainment but also as a medium for community empowerment. This strategy contributes to shaping the image of RRI Bengkulu as an adaptive, educational, and community oriented public broadcasting institution.
