Abstract

Soil amendment is a key factor in improving peat soil suitability for agriculture from the perspective of its fertility and quality. Red mud is potentially used as a peat soil ameliorant. The study aimed to evaluate red mud application as an ameliorant and application of Rhizobium on peat soil for growing edamame. The research was conducted at Tanjungpura University, Pontianak, from February to October 2024. A completely randomized design factorial was used to compile field experiments. The ameliorant factor consisted of 4 levels: control (dolomite 8 tons ha-1) and Red Mud of 10 tons ha-1, 15 tons ha-1, and 20 tons ha-1. The second factor was without and with Rhizobium. The application of Red Mud as an ameliorant increased pH, Na, and P2O5 levels and increased base saturation in peat soil. The Red Mud increased Na absorption in edamame tissues and increased pod yield. The highest edamame yield was reached with 20 tons ha-1 of red mud which was similar to with 8 tons ha-1 dolomite. Rhizobium has a role in supporting the formation of better root nodules. Keywords: crop yield; microorganisms; red mud; soil chemistry; soybean

Abstract

Mycorrhizal fungi are beneficial soil microorganisms that establish mutualistic associations with plant roots, significantly enhancing nutrient and water uptake under abiotic stress conditions. In West Kalimantan, limited soil water content frequently constrains rice cultivation, negatively impacting plant growth and yield. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of mycorrhizal inoculation on the morphophysiological traits of rice under varying levels of soil water content. The experiment was conducted from February to June 2022 in Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan, using a split-split-plot randomized complete block design. The main plot factor was mycorrhizal inoculation (inoculated and uninoculated), the subplot factor was soil water content (100%, 80%, and 60%), and the sub-subplot factor was rice variety (Inpari 32 and Inpari 42). The results demonstrated that mycorrhizal inoculation significantly improved rice tolerance to moderate drought stress through adaptive morphophysiological mechanisms. This was indicated by increased phosphorus uptake efficiency and enhanced net assimilation rate, even at 60% soil water content. These physiological improvements contributed to better plant morphological development, including greater plant height (84.73 cm), dry biomass (8.36 g), number of panicles (15.83 panicles), panicle length (22.21 cm), number of grains per panicle (189.96 grains), and grain weight per clump (72.31 g). Abstract

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) and cattle manure ash applied to Ultisol can enhance soil fertility and tomato productivity. The study aimed to analyze the effects of PGPR and cattle manure ash on the growth and yield of tomato in Ultisol. The experiment was conducted in Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, Indonesia, from March to July 2025, using a factorial completely randomized design with PGPR application (with and without PGPR) and cattle manure ash (dolomite as control, 5, 10, 15, and 20 ton ha-1). A total of 10 treatment combinations were evaluated, with 3 replications. The PGPR significantly improved physiological performance, growth, and yield of tomato in Ultisol. Nitrogen and phosphorus uptake increased by 0.65 g per plant and 0.23 g per plant, respectively, along with higher relative growth rates. The combination of PGPR and 5 ton ha-1 cattle manure ash enhanced plant height and shoot dry weight to levels similar to dolomite, while optimal root dry weight occurred at 10 ton ha-1 ash. Fruit number increased at 15 ton ha-1 ash, comparable to dolomite, although fruit weight per plant remained slightly lower. The results indicate that cattle manure ash can partially replace dolomite in tomato cultivation, can increase vegetative growth at 5 ton ha-1 and certain yield components at higher rates of 10 ton ha-1. Abstract

Household organic waste remains a serious environmental problem due to its potential to cause pollution and health disturbances. At the same time, home garden cultivation is often constrained by pest attacks and dependence on chemical pesticides. This community service program aimed to empower communities by converting household organic waste into plant-based insecticide using eco-enzyme as an environmentally friendly solution for waste management and pest control. The activity was conducted in January 2025 in Kapur Village, Kubu Raya Regency, involving a group of housewives. The program stages included pre-test, socialization, hands-on practice in producing eco-enzyme and formulating botanical insecticide, and evaluation through post-test and skills observation. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge, with the average score rising from 46.3 in the pre-test to 82.5 in the post-test, indicating an improvement of 36.2%. Participants were also able to independently produce and apply the botanical insecticide. This program provides dual benefits by reducing household organic waste and offering a safer alternative for pest management. Therefore, the program effectively enhanced community capacity and supported sustainable environmental management and household food security.

Abstract

Budidaya padi di Desa Kuala Dua, Kecamatan Sungai Raya, Kabupaten Kubu Raya masih dilakukan secara konvensional dengan penerapan teknologi yang terbatas, pengelolaan hara yang belum optimal, serta pemanfaatan sumber daya lokal yang belum maksimal. Kondisi tersebut menyebabkan efisiensi penggunaan pupuk rendah dan produktivitas tanaman belum optimal. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan petani dalam menerapkan budidaya padi berkelanjutan melalui pengelolaan hara terpadu, pemanfaatan sumber daya lokal, serta pembuatan pupuk organik berbasis inokulan Trichoderma sp. Kegiatan dilaksanakan selama bulan April – November 2025 pada Kelompok Tani Parit Keramat 1 dengan pendekatan partisipatif melalui tahapan survei awal, penyuluhan, pemaparan teknologi, pelatihan praktik pembuatan kompos, serta evaluasi secara deskriptif terhadap tingkat pemahaman dan partisipasi peserta. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa peserta memperoleh pemahaman mengenai pengelolaan hara terpadu, manfaat pupuk organik, serta peran Trichoderma sp. sebagai bioaktivator dan agen hayati. Petani juga mampu menyebarkan teknik pembuatan kompos menggunakan bahan-bahan lokal, seperti rumput pembohong, batang pisang, kotoran sapi, dan dedak. Evaluasi kegiatan menunjukkan lebih dari 90% peserta memahami manfaat penggunaan Trichoderma sp. dan berencana menerapkannya pada musim tanam berikutnya. Kegiatan ini meningkatkan kapasitas petani dalam memanfaatkan sumber daya lokal, mengurangi ketergantungan terhadap pupuk kimia, serta mendukung penerapan budidaya padi yang lebih efisien, ramah lingkungan, dan berkelanjutan.
