Abstract

Globalization has redefined the skills required for success in higher education, with intercultural competence (IC) emerging as a critical attribute for global citizens. This study explores the role of student exchange programs in promoting IC among higher education students in Indonesia, focusing on four key dimensions: cultural awareness, knowledge, attitude, and language skills. Drawing on theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence, this paper examines the transformative potential of exchange programs in enhancing students' ability to navigate diverse cultural contexts. Despite the documented benefits, such as improved cultural sensitivity, broader knowledge horizons, and enhanced employability, challenges remain, including socio-economic constraints and adaptation issues in host countries. By addressing these dynamics within Indonesia’s unique socio-economic and educational landscape, this study provides valuable insights into the internationalization of higher education in emerging economies. The findings underscore the need for comprehensive program design and policy interventions to ensure equitable access and sustained development of IC. This research contributes to the broader discourse on global education and offers practical recommendations for institutions and policymakers to optimize the impact of exchange programs.

Abstract

Proper waste management begins with individual awareness, particularly from an early age. This Community Service Program aimed to enhance the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of students in sorting and managing waste according to its types: organic, inorganic, and hazardous-toxic (B3) waste. The activity was conducted at SMP Islam Yayasan Nurul Iman, involving 60 students selected from various grade levels as the primary subjects. The program employed an educative-participatory approach through stages, including socialization, hands-on simulation, and the installation of segregated waste bins. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test instruments, revealing a 40%–50% increase in students’ understanding across five key waste management indicators. In addition to cognitive improvement, students also demonstrated positive behavioral changes in disposing of waste properly. The program received strong support from school staff and teachers and showed a multiplier effect, as students began applying waste sorting practices at home. These findings indicate that appropriate educational interventions and active student involvement can foster a sustainable culture of environmental awareness within schools.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the 2024 Internal Quality Audit (AMI) at the State University of Makassar (UNM) using the Context, Input, Process, Product (CIPP) evaluation model to assess the effectiveness of the implementation of quality assurance in eleven faculties. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data was collected from audit reports, Management Review Meeting (RTM) results, and institutional documents. The analysis shows that all faculties have implemented the PPEPP cycle consistently, although the depth and integration of practice varies. Faculties such as FMIPA and FIKK demonstrate superior practices, including infrastructure support and human resource readiness, while other faculties such as FIP face challenges in strategic documentation and integration of the MBKM curriculum. This study identifies a number of aspects that need to be improved, such as stakeholder engagement, the use of tracer studies, and more systematic follow-up to audit recommendations. This study recommends the digitization of the audit system, periodic auditor training, and the formal involvement of alumni and graduate users in the quality assurance process. The findings of the study confirm the relevance of the CIPP model as an effective evaluation framework in assessing and improving the internal audit function in universities. By providing a comprehensive understanding of audit performance and institutional gaps, this research contributes to the development of sustainable quality assurance practices at UNM and similar institutions
