Abstract

Background: Domestic violence and child abuse remain critical issues that deeply affect the emotional and psychological well-being of victims. Addressing these problems requires strategic interventions, particularly in the field of counseling. Objective: This study aims to identify how counseling can support victims of domestic violence and child abuse in their emotional and psychological recovery process. Method: A descriptive survey research design was employed. The sample consisted of 98 professional counselors and teachers from secondary schools and colleges, selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and validated by expert review. Results: Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed a statistically significant result (F = 5.215, p = .025), indicating that early counseling interventions significantly promote emotional healing, enhance communication, and build resilience. These outcomes contribute to reducing the occurrence of domestic violence and child abuse. Conclusion: Counseling plays a vital role in helping victims manage emotional responses, break destructive behavioral patterns, and develop healthier coping strategies. Contribution: This study provides valuable insights into the importance of counseling in addressing domestic violence and child abuse. It contributes to a deeper social understanding of the psychological impacts of such violence and the potential of counseling as a restorative tool.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to review the mental and psychological conditions of men who work as gigolos based on the perspective of Rogers' humanistic counseling psychology theory. Method: This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection techniques are interviews, observations, documentation studies, and audio-visual information. Data analysis is carried out by concluding to produce meaning. Results: The main factor that motivates gigolo men is economic factors. Sexual transactions with women generate money and other materials, such as giving gifts of mobile phones (cell phones), laptops, clothes, food, housing, and other goods. Gigolo men use Facebook social media to promote themselves to women. Conclusion: The solution to Rogers' humanistic counseling psychology problems regarding gigolo behavioral deviations is as follows: 1) respondents must build self-confidence to quit the gigolo profession; 2) respondents must be honest and more open about the experiences they have experienced; 3) respondents must have the responsibility to solve their problems; 4) respondents must eliminate erroneous perceptions such as fear of being poor and others; 5) Respondents must be able to accept themselves to express feelings of anger, hatred, shame, anxiety, fear, and others that the respondents initially avoided. Contribution: This research contributes to developing guidance and counseling science, especially in developing humanistic counseling psychology theory.

Abstract

Background: The sudden death of a parent is a deeply traumatic event for children, often causing significant emotional and psychological disruptions that hinder their development and academic performance. Objective: This study investigated the psychological and emotional impacts of sudden parental death on children. Method: Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected through the validated Sudden Parental Death Impact Assessment Questionnaire (SPDIQ), with high internal consistency (α = 0.85, 0.72, 0.81). SPSS v25 was used to analyze responses via descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation. Results: Findings showed that emotional shock, isolation, fear, and suicidal thoughts were among the most reported effects, along with depression and academic decline. Moderate, statistically significant correlations existed between sudden parental death and both emotional and psychological distress. Conclusion: The study confirms that sudden parental death has a measurable and distressing impact on children, irrespective of the background of the supporting counselor. Contribution: This research contributes empirical evidence to child grief literature by quantifying the emotional and psychological effects of sudden bereavement while also challenging prevailing assumptions about counselor effectiveness.
