Abstract

This research discusses Ali Shari’ati’s humanism thinking in the context of student’s alignment with the lower classes, by interpreting QS. Ibrahim verse 4. Shari’ati criticised the concept of Western humanism (liberalism, marxism and existentialism) which he considered too materialistic and did not take into account the spiritual dimension of man. Instead, he offers a tawhid-based humanism that emphasises man’s role as God’s representative on earth, with the main task of freeing the oppressed from social and structural shackles. This research uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach, analysing Ali Shari’ati’s works and other supporting literature. The results show that Ali Shari’ati’s concept of humanism encourages students to act as rausyan fikr (enlightened intellectuals) who are active in social change. Student’s alignment with the lower society must be manifested in the form of advocacy, empowerment, and real action based on religious and ethical values. By understanding Ali Shari’ati’s humanism, students can develop critical awareness and act as agents of change who contribute to social justice. This article asserts that siding with the oppressed is not just a moral choice, but also part of intellectual and spiritual responsibility. Abstrak Penelitian ini membahas tentang pemikiran humanisme Ali Syari’ati dalam konteks keberpihakan mahasiswa kepada masyarakat kelas bawah, dengan menafsirkan QS. Ibrahim ayat 4. Syari’ati mengkritisi konsep humanisme Barat (liberalisme, marxisme, dan eksistensialisme) yang dianggapnya terlalu materialistis dan tidak memperhitungkan dimensi spiritual manusia. Sebaliknya, ia menawarkan humanisme berbasis tauhid yang menekankan peran manusia sebagai wakil Tuhan di bumi, dengan tugas utama membebaskan kaum tertindas dari belenggu sosial dan struktural. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka, menganalisis karya-karya Ali Syari’ati dan literatur pendukung lainnya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsep humanisme Ali Syari’ati mendorong mahasiswa untuk berperan sebagai rausyan fikr (intelektual yang tercerahkan) yang aktif dalam perubahan sosial. Keberpihakan mahasiswa kepada masyarakat kelas bawah harus diwujudkan dalam bentuk advokasi, pemberdayaan, dan tindakan nyata yang berlandaskan pada nilai-nilai agama dan etika. Dengan memahami humanisme Ali Syari’ati, mahasiswa dapat mengembangkan kesadaran kritis dan bertindak sebagai agen perubahan yang berkontribusi pada keadilan sosial. Artikel ini menegaskan bahwa berpihak pada yang tertindas bukan sekadar pilihan moral, tetapi juga bagian dari tanggung jawab intelektual dan spiritual.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to explain how the religious authority of the habaib in Indonesia is reproduced through social and symbolic mechanisms. The focus of the study is directed at the question of how Pierre Bourdieu's concepts of habitus, capital, arena, and doxa can be used to understand the reproduction of the religious authority of the habaib in Indonesian Muslim society. This study analyzes the symbolic strategies and social practices implemented by the habaib group in maintaining and expanding their claims to religious authority. The approach used is qualitative with library research methods, with Pierre Bourdieu's works as primary sources and scientific literature related to the habaib and religious authority as secondary sources. The results show that religious practices such as haul, pilgrimage, shalawat assembly, taklim assembly, and the use of genealogical symbols form a religious habitus that functions to convert symbolic, cultural, and social capital into legitimacy of authority. In the competitive arena of religious authority, this process is reinforced through the production of doxa, so that the authority of the habaib is accepted as a religious truth that appears natural and sustainable in the collective consciousness of the community. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan menjelaskan bagaimana otoritas keagamaan habaib di Indonesia direproduksi melalui mekanisme sosial dan simbolik. Fokus kajian diarahkan pada pertanyaan bagaimana konsep habitus, modal, arena, dan doxa Pierre Bourdieu dapat digunakan untuk memahami reproduksi otoritas keagamaan habaib di tengah masyarakat Muslim Indonesia. Penelitian ini menganalisis strategi simbolik dan praksis sosial yang dijalankan kelompok habaib dalam mempertahankan serta memperluas klaim otoritas keagamaannya. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan metode studi pustaka (library research), dengan karya-karya Pierre Bourdieu sebagai sumber primer serta literatur ilmiah terkait habaib dan otoritas keagamaan sebagai sumber sekunder. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa praktik keagamaan seperti haul, ziarah, majelis shalawat, majelis taklim, dan penggunaan simbol genealogis membentuk habitus keagamaan yang berfungsi mengonversi modal simbolik, budaya, dan sosial menjadi legitimasi otoritas. Dalam arena otoritas keagamaan yang kompetitif, proses tersebut diperkuat melalui produksi doxa, sehingga otoritas habaib diterima sebagai kebenaran religius yang tampak alamiah dan berkelanjutan dalam kesadaran kolektif umat.

Abstract

Social Assistance (Bansos) and Direct Cash Transfers (BLT) constitute important instruments for poverty alleviation in Indonesia. However, their distribution often encounters targeting errors caused by inaccurate beneficiary data, nontransparent distribution processes, and potential program politicization. These targeting errors generate budgetary inefficiencies and undermine public confidence in the effectiveness of assistance. Consequently, policy reform of Bansos and BLT distribution assumes critical importance. This article aims to identify the primary obstacles in the distribution of Bansos and BLT and to formulate practical strategic policy solutions that enhance targeting accuracy and program effectiveness. The literature review further explores reform measures that can improve benefit distribution and promote more equitable improvements in community economic welfare. The research employs a literature-study approach to analyze policies, official reports, and relevant literature concerning Bansos and BLT distribution. The review covers regulatory frameworks, beneficiary data, and recommendations from academic and policy practitioners. The study recommends several key strategies, including updating beneficiary data using the National Identification Number (NIK); increasing transparency of distribution procedures; establishing independent oversight to prevent program politicization; strengthening digital infrastructure in frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged (3T) regions; implementing a responsive public complaints mechanism; and adopting multidimensional poverty indicators. Implementing the proposed strategic solutions should enhance the effectiveness of Bansos and BLT programs and thereby foster a more equitable and sustainable improvement in the economic welfare of target populations.

Abstract

This study examines the presence of religious moderation values in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) textbooks for elementary students in Grades 1-6 and proposes strategies to strengthen the internalization of these values in classroom practice. The research adopts a qualitative approach through a literature-based study, analyzing PAI textbooks as primary sources and relevant scholarly works as supporting references. The primary data consist of PAI textbooks for Grades 1-6, which were examined in depth. The findings show that the presentation of religious-moderation values in the textbooks remains varied. Several materials include moderation values only implicitly, such as encouragement to act kindly or to care for others. Other sections present moderation values more explicitly, including respect for diverse backgrounds, tolerance toward Indonesia’s religious plurality, and appreciation of cultural, ethnic, and opinion-based differences. The study also identifies inconsistencies across grade levels, with some materials showing no indication of moderation values at all. Based on these findings, the study recommends strengthening moderation values through clearer learning outcomes, the use of supportive instructional activities (such as daily stories, emotion cards, or a friendly corner), and improved collaboration between teachers and parents to ensure consistent formation of moderation values.

Abstract

This study examines Abdurrahman Wahid’s (Gus Dur) thought on humanism as a foundation of political ethics in the relationship between the state and religion. The aim of this research is to explain how humanism in Gus Dur’s intellectual framework functions as a moral principle that both limits state power and prevents religion from being instrumentalized as a source of political legitimacy. Employing a qualitative approach, this study applies textual analysis to Gus Dur’s major works, particularly “Tuhan Tidak Perlu Dibela” and “Islamku, Islam Anda, Islam Kita”, supplemented by secondary literature. The findings indicate that Gus Dur conceives the state as a worldly institution whose primary responsibility is to safeguard human dignity, social justice, and freedom of religion, without intervening in the domain of theological truth. In this framework, religion serves as a source of ethical values rather than as a state ideology. The novelty of this study lies in articulating Gus Dur’s theistic humanism as a political-ethical framework that rejects both religious formalism and extreme secularism, thereby offering a mediating perspective for governing public life in a plural society. This study underscores the continued relevance of Gus Dur’s thought for strengthening inclusive political ethics in contemporary Indonesia.
