Abstract

Knee osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that causes stiffness, pain, and joint deformity, potentially impacting patients' quality of life. Acupuncture is a non-pharmacological therapy option. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture therapy in knee osteoarthritis patients using literature searches on PubMed®, Cochrane®, and ScienceDirect® with the keyword "effectiveness therapy of acupuncture for knee osteoarthritis." The analysis showed that acupuncture could reduce pain intensity and improve quality of life through the regulation of inflammatory factor inhibition, neurological activity modulation, stimulation of ?-endorphin release, and antioxidant activation. Further studies are needed to ensure long-term effects and optimize therapy combinations for treating knee osteoarthritis patients.

Abstract

Stroke is a syndrome characterized by sudden focal neurological deficits caused by vascular injury, either hemorrhage or infarction in the central nervous system. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 15 million people experience stroke worldwide each year, with 5 million resulting in death and another 5 million suffering permanent disability. Hypertension is a major risk factor for both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, mediated by complex pathophysiological mechanisms. This review aims to explore the mechanisms by which hypertension contributes to the pathophysiology of stroke based on current evidence. The study adopts a literature review approach, utilizing data sources from journal articles, books, and other relevant documents accessible online via search engines such as Google Scholar®, PubMed®, and ScienceDirect®. The findings indicate that ischemic stroke occurs due to atherosclerosis and microvascular dysfunction induced by hypertension, whereas hemorrhagic stroke involves vessel rupture resulting from arterial wall weakening. Hypertension also affects the permeability of the blood-brain barrier through molecular pathways such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) release, leading to cerebral edema. Studies demonstrate that effective blood pressure control can significantly reduce the risk of stroke by up to 41%, underscoring hypertension as a primary target in stroke prevention.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between disease acceptance and glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). A narrative systematic review was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews method, identifying 929 articles from various scientific databases, including PubMed®, ScienceDirect®, Cochrane Library®, and Google Scholar®. The screening and selection process resulted in 19 relevant articles, consisting of a mix of experimental studies and observational studies, that were analyzed to evaluate the impact of disease acceptance on diabetes management and glycemic control in T2DM patients. The review findings show that higher disease acceptance is significantly associated with improved self-management, better glycemic control (with reduced HbA1c levels), and decreased levels of stress and depressive symptoms. Several acceptance-based psychological interventions, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and group education programs, were found effective in enhancing disease acceptance. These interventions also help patients achieve optimal glycemic control. These findings emphasize the importance of applying psychological approaches in the management of T2DM to support more comprehensive and sustainable disease care, ultimately improving the quality of life for T2DM patients

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Mahasiswa, Screen Time, Status Gizi.
