Abstract

Beluntas (Pluchea indica (L.) Less) is a plant that is often used in traditional medicine because of the presence of several substances that have activity as antimicrobial compounds. Beluntas leaves contain secondary metabolite compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, steroids, terpenoids and saponins which can function as antibacterial. This experimental research aimed at obtaining beluntas leaf extract gel and to determine the physical stability and the effectiveness of beluntas extract gel against Propionibacterium acnes. The first step is drying the beluntas leaves and and extracted by maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The extract obtained was then formulated into a gel and evaluated, the evaluation results show that formula 1 is the most stable. The results showed that beluntas leaf extract gel was effective in inhibiting the growth of Propionibacterium acnes, the inhibition zone obtained was categorized as strong, where the average diameter before the accelerated stability test was 12.02 mm and 11.58 mm after the accelerated stability test.

Abstract

Diarrhea is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in children, especially in areas with limited access to health services. Self-medication is the main alternative for some people, but is often done without adequate understanding. This community service activity aims to improve parents' understanding of self-medication for diarrhea in children and implement the role of pharmacists in providing education and monitoring rational drug use. Activities are carried out in several areas in South Sulawesi through counseling, training, and individual consultations. The results of the activity show an increase in knowledge and more appropriate behavior in the use of antidiarrheal drugs. The implementation of the role of pharmacists has proven effective in encouraging safe and rational self-medication in the community.

Abstract

Global TB Report 2022 recorded more than 700 thousand TB cases. This figure is the highest since TB became a National Priority Program. In Indonesia, the highest number of TB cases is found in the productive age group, especially those aged 45 to 54 years. This study aims to determine the profile of pulmonary tuberculosis treatment at the Kaluku Bodoa Health Center. The research design used is a non-experimental study with data collection conducted retrospectively using medical records, including individual characteristics (age, gender, education, occupation), patient type, type of Directly Observed Treatment (DOT) supervisor, and treatment category. Based on the research conducted at the Kaluku Bodoa Health Center, data showed a total of 201 pulmonary tuberculosis patients. In terms of individual characteristics, there were 44 patients aged 46-55 years, 123 male patients, the majority of whom had a primary education level (97 patients), and most of the patients were working (174 patients). Based on patient type, there were more new patients, totaling 177. All patients had a family DOT supervisor, totaling 201 patients. The treatment category used is category 1 for 197 patients.

Abstract

The Synergistic of antibacterial is an interaction of two antibacterial agents that produces a greater inhibitory effect on bacteria, compared to the individual antibacterial effects of the two agents. The purpose of this study was to determine the synergistic effect of anti-bacterial extract of sapodilla fruit (Achras zapota L.) and water gourd (Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standl.) extract against Salmonella typhi bacteria. Extraction of sapodilla fruit and water gourd fruit was carried out by maceration method using 96% ethanol (1:10). Determination of the value of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of anti-bacterial sapodilla manila fruit and water gourd fruit was carried out by the checkerboard assay method using a 96 wells microplate by calculating the Fractional Inhibition Concentration Index (FICI) value. The results showed that the single MIC value of sapodilla manila fruit and water gourd fruit respectively are 50 mg/mL and 100 mg/mL. The interaction between the two is expressed as a Fractional Inhibitory Concentration Index (FICI) with a value of 1.5. The FICI values indicate different antibacterial effects of the combination of sapodilla fruit and water gourd fruit against Salmonella typhi.
