Abstract

Numeracy is associated with students' self-efficacy, and it is crucial to examine the elements affecting numeracy proficiency, particularly behavior, including self-efficacy. A lack of research amalgamates both dimensions, encompassing the reciprocal impacts and the impact of contextual factors like gender and educational background. This study seeks to ascertain the influence of mathematics self-efficacy aspects on numeracy among elementary school teacher education students in the Yogyakarta region. The sampling method employed was non-probability sampling, specifically utilizing a convenience sampling methodology with a sample size of 215. The data analysis employed Structural Equation Modeling – Partial Least Squares (SEM–PLS). This study identifies the "strength" dimension of self-efficacy in numeracy as the most influential factor affecting an individual's numeracy skills. Frequent exposure to consistent and relevant learning experiences enhances students' confidence in decision-making when confronted with numeracy challenges. The "strength" of students' mathematics self-efficacy can be affected by various aspects, such as pleasant learning experiences, social support, and achievements in solving mathematical obstacles. Students who frequently confront and successfully resolve mathematical issues experience increased confidence as they trust in their capacity to tackle analogous tasks in the future. If this conduct is consistently exhibited during the student's study period, the numeracy component may enhance and serve as a valuable resource for future teachers.

Abstract

Vehicle manifest recording in Ro-Ro ferry services is still predominantly conducted manually, which may lead to operational inefficiencies and data inconsistencies. This study presents an automated vehicle manifest recording system for the Bengkalis–Sungai Pakning Ro-Ro ferry crossing by leveraging deep learning and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technologies. The proposed system utilizes CCTV or IP cameras to capture vehicle images, performs frame extraction from video streams, and applies YOLOv11 for real-time vehicle and license plate detection. The detected license plate regions are subsequently processed using an OCR module to extract textual vehicle identification information. The detection model was trained using a publicly available vehicle and license plate dataset. Experimental evaluation on the vehicle and license plate dataset shows that the YOLOv11 model achieves a precision of 85.9%, recall of 84.0%, and mAP@0.5 of 87.8% for vehicle and plate detection. OCR evaluation conducted on real operational test images indicates a recognition success rate of 57.5%, with an average confidence score of 0.63 for successfully recognized plates. Further analysis reveals that illumination level and plate scale (distance proxy) are the dominant factors affecting OCR performance, while tilt angle exhibits moderate influence. These results indicate that the proposed framework provides reliable visual detection performance and identifies critical environmental constraints that must be addressed for robust automated manifest deployment in Ro-Ro ferry environments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze numeracy literacy learning difficulties among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 3 Kadipiro, Yogyakarta, viewed from mathematical conceptual understanding and self-efficacy. The study focuses on identifying students’ difficulties in understanding problem contexts, interpreting mathematical information, and determining appropriate problem-solving strategies in contextual situations. It also examines the role of conceptual understanding and mathematical self-efficacy in supporting numeracy literacy skills at the elementary school level. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subjects included the school principal, the fifth-grade teacher, and fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 3 Kadipiro. Data were collected through a conceptual understanding test, a mathematical self-efficacy questionnaire, in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted inductively through data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing with verification. Data validity was ensured through technique triangulation and source triangulation. The results indicate that students’ numeracy literacy difficulties were at a moderate level. The main difficulties involved understanding problem contexts, converting verbal language into mathematical representations, and applying systematic problem-solving steps. Students’ mathematical conceptual understanding was uneven and contributed to numeracy literacy difficulties. Although students’ mathematical self-efficacy was generally good, it was not sufficient to overcome cognitive barriers. Therefore, improving numeracy literacy requires balanced strengthening of conceptual understanding and self-efficacy through contextual and sustainable learning approaches. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the difficulties of learning numeracy literacy of grade V students at SD Negeri 1 Pecekelan Wonosobo by reviewing the ability to think critically and self-efficacy in mathematics. Numeracy literacy is an essential competency in elementary school mathematics learning, but the achievements of Indonesian students are still below international standards. The difficulty of numeracy literacy is not only related to the understanding of mathematical concepts, but is also influenced by the ability to think critically as a cognitive aspect and self-efficacy as an affective aspect. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. The subject of the study is class V students in the context of inclusion classes. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, with inductive data analysis through the process of reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the difficulties in students' numeracy literacy are seen in the ability to understand contextual problems, interpret data, and draw logical conclusions. Low critical thinking skills affect students' inability to formulate systematic problem-solving strategies. In addition, low mathematical self-efficacy is shown through a lack of confidence, doubt in answering questions, and a tendency to avoid tasks that are considered difficult. These findings confirm that numeracy literacy difficulties are a multidimensional phenomenon influenced by the interaction between cognitive and affective factors. This research contributes to providing a more comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of numeracy literacy learning difficulties in the context of inclusive elementary schools and offers a conceptual basis for the development of adaptive learning strategies to improve students' critical thinking skills and mathematical self-efficacy.

Abstract

Numeracy literacy is an important basic skill, but fifth-grade students at Jatimalang Public Elementary School still face difficulties, especially in solving story problems and contextual tasks. This study aims to describe the level of students' numeracy literacy in terms of the process of solving mathematical problems, identify difficulties at each stage of problem solving, and explore the factors that influence it. The research method used was descriptive qualitative. Data were collected through observation, problem-solving tests, interviews with the principal, classroom teachers, and several fifth-grade students. Data analysis was conducted inductively through the stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students' numeracy literacy skills were in the adequate category. The main difficulties were found in the stages of understanding the problem, designing strategies, and rechecking. These obstacles were caused by internal factors, such as low self-confidence and anxiety about mathematics, as well as external factors, such as teacher-centered learning methods and a lack of practice with real-world problems.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low level of mathematical concept understanding among students in inclusive elementary schools and the importance of psychological factors in supporting learning success. Self-efficacy is considered one of the internal determinants that influence students' confidence in completing academic tasks. This study aims to analyze the effect of self-efficacy on the mathematical concept understanding of students in inclusive elementary schools in Cluster III Kasihan, Bantul. This study employed a quantitative approach with a survey design. The research sample consisted of 114 fifth-grade students selected from a population of 170 students using the Isaac and Michael table with a 5% error rate. The instruments used were a self-efficacy questionnaire and a mathematical concept understanding test that had been declared valid and reliable. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS. The results showed that the regression equation was Y = 55.779 + 0.210X, with t-count = 2.326 > t-table = 1.98 (Sig. 0.022 < 0.05) and F-count = 5.409 > F-table = 3.93, indicating that self-efficacy has a positive and significant effect on students’ mathematical concept understanding. However, the relationship is relatively low (R = 0.215), with the contribution of self-efficacy to mathematical concept understanding being 4.6%, or 3.8% after adjustment (Adjusted R² = 0.038), indicating that most of the variation is influenced by other factors outside this study.
