Abstract

Bullying in the school environment, especially at the high school level, has become an issue that is increasingly disturbing and urgent to be addressed. Many students who are victims of bullying experience lasting negative impacts, both psychologically and socially. This phenomenon not only affects students' academic lives, but can also result in serious emotional problems, such as depression and anxiety. Therefore, it is important to find effective solutions to prevent bullying behavior in schools. In this research, researchers used interview methods to explore in-depth data about individual experiences, opinions or feelings that are difficult to measure quantitatively. The role of Indonesian language teachers is very strategic. Apart from teaching language and literature, teachers have the opportunity to instill moral values through selected learning materials. Literary works, for example, often contain themes of humanity and social interaction that are relevant to bullying behavior. By integrating Christian values in language learning, teachers can help students understand the importance of empathy and compassion in relationships between people. From the results of research that has been conducted, it is clear that Indonesian language teachers at Marisi Medan Private High School have a crucial role in preventing bullying through instilling Christian values.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of the 2025 North Sumatra flash flood disaster in Kompas.com news coverage using Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. The data consists of five news articles published between November 26 and December 3, 2025. Analysis was conducted through three levels: textual analysis, discursive practice, and social practice. The findings reveal two dominant patterns in disaster representation. First, naturalization of disaster, evident in the November 26 and December 2, 2025 articles through the use of the word "mystery" and the metaphor "nature's fury," which shifts responsibility away from human actors. Second, politicization of disaster, evident in the November 30 and December 1, 2025 articles through phrases such as "policy disaster" and "policy gap," which frame the flood as a product of systemic government failure. Furthermore, all articles were found to rely on elite sources without providing space for the voices of affected communities, resulting in a top-down and hegemonic discourse. This study confirms that disaster reporting in mainstream media is never neutral, but always shaped by particular ideologies and power relations.

Abstract

The cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and religious diversity of Indonesia presents both opportunities and challenges in building a harmonious social life. This study aims to examine the relationship between cross-cultural understanding and social tolerance in Indonesia through a systematic literature review. A qualitative approach with library research method was employed, using scientific articles, national and international journals, and conference proceedings published between 2022 and 2025 as data sources. Data were analyzed through content analysis and narrative synthesis, organized into four main themes. The findings reveal that: (1) ethnocentrism arising from limited cross-cultural understanding is the primary barrier to social tolerance; (2) constructive cross-cultural communication significantly contributes to the formation of tolerant attitudes; (3) digital media offers both opportunities and challenges for Generation Z's tolerance; and (4) multicultural education serves as a strategic pathway that has yet to be optimally implemented. This study concludes that strengthening cross-cultural understanding through integrated communication, digital, and educational approaches is crucial for fostering social tolerance in Indonesia's pluralistic society.

Abstract

The odhong-odhong oral tradition is a distinctive chant of the Pakpak Bharat community that embodies essential life values as the foundation of social harmony. This study aims to describe the nature and characteristics of odhong-odhong, identify the values contained within it, analyze the role of those values in building social harmony, and examine its relevance in the era of modernization and globalization. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method through a literature review approach, drawing on scientific journals, books, and relevant literature published within the last six years. The findings reveal that odhong-odhong is a chant performed by Pakpak men while searching for frankincense resin in the forest, functioning simultaneously as emotional expression, prayer, and a medium for transmitting cultural values. The values embedded in this tradition include emotional, moral, social, spiritual, and cultural dimensions. From the perspective of Émile Durkheim's solidarity theory, odhong-odhong strengthens the mechanical solidarity of the Pakpak Bharat community through collective consciousness formed by shared values and communal experiences. Despite facing the threats of modernization, including declining interest among younger generations and limited documentation, odhong-odhong remains relevant as a cultural identity that must be preserved through educational integration, digitalization, and revitalization in traditional ceremonies.
