Abstract

This study examines the strategic use of sushi as a central instrument in Japan’s gastrodiplomacy, aiming to enhance public diplomacy, soft power, and national identity on the global stage. Utilizing a qualitative case study design combined with media discourse analysis, the research maps the engagement of state and non-state actors—including government agencies, renowned chefs, international restaurants, and digital media platforms—in shaping cultural narratives through culinary diplomacy. Data are drawn from policy documents, academic literature, global media sources, and digital trend analysis via Brand24. The findings reveal that sushi serves not only as a gastronomic product but also as a cultural symbol representing Japanese values, including aesthetics, omotenashi (hospitality), health consciousness, and craftsmanship. Cross-sector collaborations have fostered a dynamic diplomatic ecosystem that advances Japan’s cultural positioning while stimulating trade and tourism. Challenges persist in managing authenticity and commercialization, particularly in markets where sushi has undergone significant local adaptation. Compared to gastrodiplomacy campaigns such as Thai Select and Kimchi Diplomacy, Japan’s approach is marked by strategic flexibility and a commitment to preserving culinary heritage. This study enriches scholarly discourse by providing a comprehensive conceptual mapping of sushi diplomacy as a geopolitical tool and cultural branding strategy, offering practical insights for policymakers and cultural practitioners seeking to leverage cuisine in international engagement. Abstract

Papua New Guinea is a developing country located in Oceania within the specifications of the Melanesian family. Papua New Guinea in the status quo condition still faces various forms of domestic problems that have an impact on internal instability conditions. Acts of unrest are still massive in this country, which has an impact on poor economic conditions and a high poverty rate targeting all levels of the population. In January 2024, the international community was shocked by the news of riots that occurred in several cities in Papua New Guinea namely Port Moresby and Lae, due to the phenomenon of unilateral salary cuts to state civil servants without any further explanation from the government. The rioting by civil servants (police, public sector staff, and other civil servants) and opportunistic parties has had a huge impact on the internal conditions of the country forcing the city into a precarious situation and this phenomenon itself is exacerbated by the vacant position of the security forces due to their participation in this action. The unrest had a huge impact and led to acts of violence, murder, and looting aimed at several shops in the corners of the city. In response, James Marape as the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea declared a national emergency for two weeks and attempted to bring in securitization measures to reduce the larger conflict that could break out at any time. Abstract

The issue of loss and damage has long been sidelined in global climate governance, despite its increasing urgency for climate-vulnerable countries. This study examines the political, moral, and cultural dimensions of climate justice that shaped the negotiation and institutionalization of the Loss and Damage Fund (LDF) under the UNFCCC framework. Politically, the fund reflects enduring power asymmetries between developed and developing countries; morally, it embodies contested claims of historical responsibility; and culturally, it signals a shift in global norms toward reparative justice and transnational solidarity. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, the research draws on official UNFCCC documents, COP decisions, and academic literature to trace the institutional dynamics and strategic negotiations that enabled the fund’s creation. The findings show that Global South actors, despite internal asymmetries, strategically reframed loss and damage from a technical concern into a moral and political demand. Indonesia’s diplomatic role within the G77 coalition at COP27 illustrates how procedural resistance and discursive realignment contributed to political recognition of irreversible climate harm. This study addresses a gap in the literature by moving beyond normative appeals to examine the institutional mechanisms and strategic agency that transformed a marginalized agenda into formal policy. Its academic contribution lies in synthesizing historical institutionalism and Global South dependency theory, while connecting institutional change to broader shifts in values, norms, and global solidarity. The Loss and Damage Fund is not merely a financial instrument; it is a contested site of political struggle and symbolic transformation in the architecture of global climate governance.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of E-WOM on purchase decisions through the mediating role of customer trust and perceived value. This study was performed among Indonesian marketplace users. This research uses a quantitative approach, with survey data collected from 202 Generation Z individuals. Data were collected using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire distributed via social media platforms WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0. The results indicate that E-WOM affects customer trust, perceived value, and purchase decisions. Customer trust influences purchase decisions and partially mediates the effect of E-WOM on them. In contrast, perceived value does not affect purchase decisions and does not mediate the relation of E_WOM on purchase decision. These findings suggest that customer trust plays a more critical role than perceived value in driving purchase decisions for Generation Z consumers. The study contributes to the digital consumer behavior literature by reinforcing the applicability of the S–O–R framework and highlighting the dominant mediating role of trust. Practically, the results imply that marketplace platforms and sellers should prioritize strategies that enhance credible E-WOM and strengthen consumer trust rather than relying solely on value-based or price-driven approaches.

Abstract

Inclusive safety for women with disabilities in South Sumatra is a pressing issue, given the high levels of violence faced by this group. Therefore, this research focuses on protection strategies that can be implemented for women with disabilities residing in marginal areas of South Sumatra. The study aims to explore institutional and participatory dynamics and to identify community initiatives that can enhance their safety and participation in society. The methodology employed is a qualitative approach based on in-depth interviews with community organizations and local government agencies. The research indicates that violence against women with disabilities stems not only from individuals but also from institutional systems that are non-inclusive and non-responsive to their specific needs. The findings reveal that community-based initiatives such as peer support groups and grassroots forums prove effective in creating safe spaces and increasing the participation of women with disabilities. This study emphasizes the importance of institutional reform to create a sustainable protection system, including more inclusive and coordinated public policies. Proposed policy recommendations include engaging disability organizations as strategic partners and implementing inclusion standards in public services, which are expected to strengthen the protection and participation of women with disabilities in a broader context.

Abstract

This study examines the international political dynamics and power asymmetries that shaped the negotiation and institutionalization of the Loss and Damage Fund (LDF) under the UNFCCC framework. While loss and damage has historically been marginalized within global climate governance, its elevation at COP27 reflects a significant shift driven by contestation between developed and developing countries. The research integrates historical institutionalism and Global South dependency theory to analyze how institutional legacies, path-dependent mechanisms, and structural inequalities have influenced the design and operationalization of the LDF. Methodologically, this study employs a qualitative-explanatory, process-tracing approach to capture the evolution of negotiations and institutional outcomes. Data are drawn from systematic analysis of UNFCCC negotiation texts, official COP decisions, and policy reports. The findings demonstrate that early institutional design choices shaped by the normative and financial dominance of developed countries generated path-dependent constraints that limited the redistributive and justice-oriented potential of the LDF. However, Global South actors exercised strategic agency by reframing loss and damage as a moral and political issue grounded in historical responsibility, rather than a purely technical concern. Through coalition diplomacy, discursive contestation, and procedural resistance, these actors were able to secure formal recognition of irreversible climate harm within the UNFCCC regime. This study advances climate justice scholarship by offering a theoretically integrated explanation of how structurally disadvantaged actors can reshape institutional outcomes within an unequal global governance system. The LDF thus emerges not merely as a financial mechanism, but as a contested site of institutional transformation, where future effectiveness will depend on governance arrangements, equitable access, and sustained political negotiation.

Abstract

This study analyzes China’s security diplomacy in the Middle East from the perspective of global power politics. The study aims to explain how Beijing’s diplomatic engagement, particularly in conflict mediation and regional stabilization, serves as a strategy for expanding influence amid the redistribution of international power. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design based on a literature review, drawing on academic literature, policy documents, and international reports. The findings indicate that China’s security diplomacy does not rely on military intervention, but rather on a non-interventionist approach, multilateral legitimacy, and economic interdependence. The mediation of Saudi-Iranian normalization in 2023 reflects a dual strategy: maintaining energy stability while expanding China’s strategic position in the global contest. However, this increased role remains gradual and has not yet fully replaced the United States security dominance. This study concludes that China’s security diplomacy represents a new form of power politics in the geoeconomic era, in which diplomacy and development serve as the primary instruments in shaping an increasingly multipolar security order.

Abstract

As a newly established school implementing a curriculum that differs from other schools under the same foundation, a newly established private Christian senior high school in Sidoarjo faces the challenge of improving educational quality through teacher competency development. This study examines the effect of servant leadership on teacher competency, with coaching as a moderating variable. Using a quantitative approach, the study employed Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Data on servant leadership and coaching were collected through questionnaires distributed to 38 teachers, while teacher competency data were obtained from secondary data provided by school leaders. The findings show that servant leadership has a positive and significant effect on teacher competency. Coaching does not have a significant direct effect on teacher competency; however, it strengthens the positive relationship between servant leadership and teacher competency. These findings suggest that servant leadership, when supported by structured coaching practices, can contribute more effectively to teacher development and educational quality improvement.
