Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease with an increasing global prevalence. Non-pharmacological approaches that may support glycemic control include Benson relaxation therapy, which focuses on stress management, and Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), which encompasses nutrition diagnosis, therapy, and counseling. This study aimed to analyze the effects of combining Benson relaxation therapy and MNT on blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: A quantitative study with a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest two-group design was conducted in the North Aceh District in 2024. A total of 100 respondents participated: 50 individuals in the intervention group and 50 in the control group. The intervention consisted of daily 20-minute Benson relaxation sessions combined with MNT over a 14-day period. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test with a significance level of p < 0,05. Results: The mean blood glucose level in the intervention group decreased from 349,04 ± 16,40 mg/dL at baseline to 299,12 ± 23,89 mg/dL post-intervention (p = 0,001). In contrast, the control group showed an increase from 312,88 ± 19,28 mg/dL to 331,10 ± 16,74 mg/dL (p= 0,042). In conclusion, the combination of Benson relaxation therapy and MNT effectively reduced blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and is recommended as a complementary non-pharmacological therapy.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the implementation of Modern Hydrocolloid Dressing to improve skin integrity in school-age children with dermatitis. The method used was quantitative with a pretest-posttest control group design. The results showed that the use of Modern Hydrocolloid Dressing significantly improved skin integrity in school-age children with dermatitis. In the treatment group, the average dermatitis score decreased from 1.84 (SD = 0.473) to 1.16 (SD = 0.624) with a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, no significant changes were found in the control group; the average score decreased by only 0.12 points (p = 0.185), with the majority of respondents remaining in the moderate category. This confirms that conventional dressings, or no intervention, are less effective than Modern Hydrocolloid Dressing. In conclusion, the use of Modern Hydrocolloid Dressing has been shown to significantly improve skin integrity in school-age children with dermatitis.   Keywords: School-Age Dermatitis, Modern Hydrocolloid Dressing, Skin Integrity

Abstract

Background: Type II diabetes mellitus is a global health problem with a steadily increasing incidence, particularly in developing countries. Low patient knowledge contributes to poor disease prevention and management. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between patient knowledge levels and the incidence of type II diabetes mellitus. Method: This study used a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach, conducted at North Aceh Hospital from February to May 2025. The sample consisted of 93 respondents selected through simple random sampling from a population of 1,296. Knowledge was measured using the DKQ-24 instrument, while diabetes status was determined by blood glucose levels. The correlation analysis was performed using the chi-square test. Results: The majority of respondents were female, aged 40–65, had secondary education, and worked as traders. Most respondents had low levels of knowledge, and most had diabetes. Statistical tests showed a significant association between knowledge level and the incidence of type II diabetes mellitus (p = 0.001; α = 0.01). Conclusion: Patient knowledge is crucial in preventing and controlling type 2 diabetes mellitus. Targeted, simple, and socio-culturally appropriate health education interventions should be prioritized, particularly in high-risk groups, to promote healthy behaviors and reduce the incidence of diabetes.   Keywords: Diabetes Incidence; Health Education; Patient Knowledge; Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
