Abstract

Background : Cancer is the number one cause of death in the world. Of the 10.9 million people diagnosed with cancer worldwide each year, about 50% require radiotherapy. The use of radiotherapy is still not widely used and is still limited in Indonesia. Due to the pandemic, patients are anxious about COVID-19 infection, so there are some patients who delay treatment to the hospital because the hospital is considered a place with a high transmission rate. The correlation between radiotherapy patient anxiety towards COVID-19 infection with radiotherapy patient visits during the COVID-19 pandemic at Vina Estetica General Hospital. Research Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between radiotherapy patient anxiety and COVID-19 infection with radiotherapy patient visits during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Vina Estetica General Hospital. Research Methods: The type of research that used in this study is analytical research. The analytical research approach uses a cross sectional study approach, where the observations of the variables are only for a moment and one observation during the study. The research was done at RSU Vina Estetica Medan with a minimum sample size of 44 people. Results: The results showed that the majority of patients had a mild level of anxiety about COVID-19, which was 70.45% of the total patients or 31 people. A total of 8 (18.18%) patients had moderate anxiety, 3 (6.82%) had severe anxiety, and 2 patients (4.55%) did not feel anxious. The majority of the patients (93.18%) did not delay the radiotherapy visit. Only 3 people (6.82%) were found to delay radiotherapy visits. Conclusion: There is no correlation between the anxiety level of radiotherapy patients and the number of visits

Abstract

Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC) is a type of thyroid cancer originating from C cells, while Poorly Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma (PDTC) is a more aggressive form with poor differentiation. The transformation between these two types can affect prognosis and treatment strategies. This study analyzes an 18-year-old female patient presenting with neck swelling and difficulty swallowing. The initial diagnosis of MTC was established through fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB), and after surgical resection, histopathological analysis was conducted to evaluate any transformation to PDTC. Histopathological findings revealed MTC areas with high calcitonin-producing C cells. However, there were also areas exhibiting characteristics of PDTC, including increased mitotic activity, necrosis, and loss of calcitonin expression. This transformation indicates a shift from a more indolent cancer form to a more aggressive one. The transformation from MTC to PDTC in a young patient illustrates the value of careful monitoring and thorough histopathological evaluation. Appropriate management and understanding of these changes are crucial for improving treatment outcomes. Further studies are needed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying this transformation.

Abstract

Blood donation is a critical healthcare activity that saves millions of lives worldwide. This community service activity aimed to increase blood stock availability and raise awareness about voluntary blood donation through Lions Club Medan Angkasa's initiative "Setetes Darah, Sejuta Kasih dan Harapan" (A Drop of Blood, Million Love and Hope). The blood donation drive was conducted on November 26, 2023, at Manhattan Times Square 3rd floor, Medan. The activity included health screening, blood collection, and educational sessions about the importance of regular blood donation. A total of 150 voluntary donors participated in the event, successfully collecting 135 bags of blood (340cc each) after medical screening. The results showed high community participation and awareness about the importance of blood donation. This initiative demonstrates the effectiveness of community-based organizations in supporting healthcare systems and promoting voluntary blood donation culture in society.
