Abstract

Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is a chronic disease that can be prevented. It commonlyaffects children involving in one or more decayed (with lesions or not) teeth, missing teeth (dueto caries), or teeth with fillings in children aged under 71 months. The disease is sometimesoverlooked, but this condition usually affects the general health of children. Early detection ofEarly Childhood Caries (ECC) can prevent problems which are harmful to children. Therefore,the ECC must be prevented and for teeth that have had dental caries they should be givenproper treatment so as not to worsen and affect the quality of life in children. Prevention of thisdisease is a significant component in any health program to prepare for the optimal basis forthe oral health of children. This condition will become a serious health problem if not handledproperly, and it is a major health problem for health providers throughout the world.Primarypreventive must be initiated since a woman getting pregnant.Keywords: Early Childhood Caries (ECC), prevention, treatment

Abstract

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recognizes Early Childhood Caries (ECC/nursing bottle caries) as a significant public health problem. Oral health care needs vary but encompass all ages. Poor oral health disproportionately affects people living in low socio-economic status environment and rural communities. Oral health may affect a child‟s growth and development, its social behaviour, nutrition, learning and its overall well-being. ECC is 100% preventable,butmost parents often disagree with this statement. The consequences of ECC include a higher risk of new carious lesions in both the primary and permanent dentitions. ECC interferes not only with the quality of life of the child, but also of the family. It affects a childs school performance, and its socialbehaviour. Treatment of ECC is costly, invasive and stressful. Young children with high caries activity may develop caries even during tooth eruption; therefore, it is essential to reach for thepreschool children and their caregivers as early as possible. This research highlights the importance of eliminating the root causes of ECC, which will in turn help children to be as healthy as they can be. Treating dental caries in pre-school children would increase the growth rate and the quality of life ofmillions of children.Keywords: Early Childhood Caries (ECC), quality of life, children

Abstract

Pembahasan dilakukan dalam penganalisisan pada variabel (a) Good Corporate Governance, (b) efektivitas pemangku kepentingan, (c) pertumbuhan perusahaan & profitabilitas dalam pengungkapan corporate social responsibility. Studi yang akan diteliti ialah 30 perusahaan yang telah diseleksi dari seluruh perusahaan yang ada. Teknik yang digunakan untuk pengumpulan data dari situs idx.com untuk mendapatkan informasi mengenai laporan keuangan di BEI. Hasil pembahasan yang telah diuji berikutnya akan dilakukan dengan teknik kuisioner , peneliti akan menyajikan dengan teliti & pengujian hipotesis akan dilakukan dengan seksama.

Abstract

Abstract: Stainless steel crown (SSC) is a type of crown made from a dental alloy or stainless steel anatomically shaped and easily adaptable to extensively damaged teeth. This SSC can be utilized not only for deciduous teeth but also for young permanent teeth. This literature review aimed to further discuss the role of SSC as a preliminary treatment for young permanent first molars. Data search was conducted on electronic databases such as Google Scholar, NCBI (Pubmed), and Science Direct using the keywords "Stainless Steel Crown" and "Young Permanent Dentition." Previous research suggests that the use of SSC as a preliminary treatment for young permanent first molars is considered highly effective and suitable as a temporary restoration before definitive treatment was performed. In conclusion, it is proven that stainless steel crowns can maintain the function of severely damaged molars in children and adolescents until definitive treatment can be performed. This is attributed to the high success rate and long-term durability of stainless steel crown. Keywords: stainless steel crown; preliminary treatment; young permanent teeth   Abstrak: Stainless steel crown (SSC) adalah jenis mahkota yang terbuat dari paduan logam dental (alloy) atau baja tahan karat berbentuk anatomi gigi dan mudah dibentuk untuk diadaptasikan pada gigi yang mengalami kerusakan luas. Jenis restorasi ini tidak hanya dapat digunakan pada gigi sulung, namun juga untuk gigi permanen muda. Tujuan pembuatan literature review ini untuk membahas lebih lanjut mengenai peran SSC sebagai perawatan pendahuluan pada gigi molar pertama permanen muda. Penelusuran data dilakukan pada basis data elektronik seperti Google Scholar, NCBI (Pubmed), dan Science Direct dengan penentuan kata kunci “Stainless Steel Crown” dan “Young Permanent Dentition”. Penelitian sebelumnya mengemukakan bahwa penggunaan SSC sebagai perawatan pendahuluan pada gigi molar pertama permanen muda dinilai sangat baik dan layak digunakan sebagai restorasi sementara sebelum perawatan definitif dilakukan. Simpulan review ini ialah terbukti bahwa stainless steel crown dapat mempertahankan fungsi gigi molar yang mengalami kerusakan parah baik pada anak maupun remaja sampai perawatan prostetik defnitif dapat dilakukan. Hal ini disebabkan karena stainless steel crown memiliki keberhasilan yang tinggi dan ketahanan jangka panjang. ​Kata kunci: stainless steel crown; perawatan pendahuluan; gigi permanen muda

Abstract

Background: Obesity is a chronic condition that is closely linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus. Bariatric surgery is deemed to be an effective method to reduce weight and induce diabetes remission. Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) and laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (SG) are the most commonly performed surgical procedures. Objective: This study aimed to find out the efficacy of bariatric surgery including the more effective method between Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy in lowering BMI and improving HbA1c levels. Methods: This study is a cohort retrospective study of 64 patients who underwent laparoscopic RYGB  and SG in January 2020 – September 2023 in Sumber Waras Hospital. Data regarding BMI and HbA1c pre- and 3 months post-surgery were collected and analyzed using SPSS with statistical significance defined as p <0.05. Results: Greater decrease of IMT (p=0,000) and HbA1c (0,013) were observed in patients post laparoscopic RYGB. Meanwhile, in morbidly obese patients (BMI pre-op > 35kg/m2), no significant differences were found in HbA1c changes in both groups (p=0,240).  Conclusion: Laparoscopic RYGB is more effective in lowering BMI and HbA1c compared to laparoscopic SG. However, this comparison does not apply in morbidly obese patients.

Abstract

Introduction: Oral health is a major concern in healthcare worldwide, with dental caries being a prevalent issue among children and adults. Streptococcus mutans is a primary bacterium implicated in the development of dental caries due to its acidogenic nature. Mint leaf (Mentha piperita L.) is a unique herbal plant that has antibacterial and antibiofilm properties against S. mutans and minimal side effects. The purpose of this study was to analyze the antibacterial effectiveness of mint leaf against the growth of S. mutans UA159 and its antibiofilm effects. Methods: This study was conducted experimentally with the posttest-only control group design, using the broth microdilution method in 6 test groups, namely mint leaf extract with a concentration of 3.125, 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50, and 100% and also two control groups, namely the negative control using aquadest and the positive control using 0.2% chlorhexidine. Biofilm growth is determined by comparing Optical Density (OD) values and then calculating the percentage of eradication of S. mutans biofilm formation. Results: The results indicated that the mint leaf extract exhibited antibacterial effects against S. mutans, with the largest inhibition zone diameter observed at a 100% concentration. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC)90 values using the broth microdilution method in this study were 12.5% and 100% concentrations, respectively. Mint leaf extract has been shown to significantly inhibit the growth of S. mutans (p<0.05). The results of the inhibition test on biofilm formation at a concentration of 100% averaged 87.39%. Conclusion: Mint leaf extract has an antibacterial and antibiofilm effect on the growth of S. mutans. The level of inhibition of mint leaf extract on the growth of S. mutans is proportional to its concentration; the higher the concentration of the extract, the stronger the inhibitory ability.KeywordAnti-Bacterial agents, biofilms, Mentha piperita, oral health, Streptococcus mutans.

Abstract

This research presents the design and development of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based Automatic Fish Feeder system using the Blynk platform to address common challenges in fish feeding management. The primary goal is to ensure consistent feeding schedules, minimize manual intervention, and provide remote control and monitoring capabilities. The system utilizes the ESP32 microcontroller integrated with ultrasonic sensors and servo motors to dispense feed accurately. Real-time data transmission is enabled via the Blynk Cloud, allowing users to schedule feeding times, monitor feed levels, and receive notifications when the feed stock is low. The methodology involves a multi-layer communication architecture: perception, data processing, communication, and application layers. Ultrasonic sensors calculate the remaining feed stock, while servo motors execute precise feeding commands. Users can interact through a user-friendly Blynk interface that visualizes feed levels, logs feeding history, and supports customizable schedules. The system also sends real-time alerts to ensure proactive management. The implementation successfully reduces manual feeding tasks, mitigates overfeeding risks, and enhances feed efficiency. This innovative approach supports sustainable aquaculture practices, promoting healthier fish growth for hobbyists and commercial breeders alike. Results demonstrate high reliability and user satisfaction, paving the way for future smart aquaculture solutions.

Abstract

Gingivitis inflammation triggered by microbial biofilms is one of the detrimental causes of periodontal diseases. When a periodontal disease occurs, tooth decay becomes inevitable, and can pose a serious threat to oral health, requiring appropriate treatment. Inflammation in periodontitis is mainly caused by oxidative stress; hence, antimicrobial and antioxidant-based therapies are suggested for periodontitis. Sappan wood is well-known for its brazilin compounds, which have the potential as herbal medicines and antibacterial agents to fight oral pathogens with minimal side effects. This study aimed to examine the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of sappan wood extract (SE) as a candidate agent for preventing periodontal diseases. This study was conducted at Maranatha Christian University, Sekolah Tinggi Farmasi Indonesia, and Aretha Medika Utama from January-April 2023. The sappan wood was extracted using ethanol 96% and the antimicrobial evaluation was done by calculating the total colony of P. gingivalis while the antioxidant activity was evaluated by ABTS, H2O2, and FRAP Assays. This study revealed that SE was significantly effective in reducing the total colony of P. gingivalis up to 0 CFU/mL. The highest antioxidant activity of SE was found in 100 µg/mL with IC50 19.06 µg/mL for ABTS, 90.99 µg/mL for H2O2, and 564 µM Fe (II) for FRAP. Thus, SE presents its strong antimicrobial and antioxidant activity potentials by in vitro evaluation that could be analyzed further for its utilization as a periodontal-preventing agent. This study also provides basic information for future implication of sappan wood extract as ingredients for dental care products.

Abstract

Abstract: Mesiodens are supernumerary teeth or extra teeth that grow between two maxillary central incisors, often found in children with mixed dentition. Appropriate management in cases of mesiodens needs to be carried out, because mesiodens can cause various complications. We reported a 13-year-old boy who came to RSGM Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani (Unjani) with complaints of messy front teeth and an excess tooth appearing between the two incisors of the upper jaw. The patient underwent treatment in the form of mesiodens extraction, followed by continuous observation for one year after treatment. Evaluation one year after treatment showed excellent results. It is recommended that extraction of mesiodens be carried out as soon as possible. Removal of the mesiodens at a young age will minimize the need for orthodontic therapy and additional surgical intervention in the future. Keywords: tooth extraction; mesiodens; supernumerary teeth    Abstrak: Mesiodens adalah supernumerary teeth atau gigi berlebih yang tumbuh di antara kedua insisif sentral rahang atas, sering dijumpai pada anak dengan periode gigi campuran. Penatalaksanaan yang tepat pada penanganan kasus mesiodens perlu dilakukan, karena mesiodens dapat menyebabkan beragam komplikasi. Kami melaporkan kasus seorang anak laki-laki berusia 13 tahun datang ke RSGM Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani (Unjani) dengan keluhan gigi depannya berantakan dan adanya gigi berlebih yang muncul di antara kedua gigi seri rahang atasnya. Pasien dilakukan perawatan berupa ekstraksi mesiodens, dilanjutkan dengan observasi berkelanjutan selama satu tahun pasca perawatan. Evaluasi satu tahun setelah perawatan menunjukkan hasil yang sangat baik. Ekstraksi mesiodens direkomendasikan untuk dilakukan sesegera mungkin. Pencabutan mesiodens pada usia muda akan meminimalkan kebutuhan terapi ortodontik maupun intervensi bedah tambahan di kemudian hari. Kata kunci:  ekstraksi gigi; mesiodens; supernumerary teeth

Abstract

The maritime supply chain becomes the key factor in trade globalization especially when the pandemic hit; the maritime supply chain was interrupted and caused instability of supply and demand around the world. The pandemic crisis forced the maritime supply chain stakeholders to adopt and implement technologies to give fast and precise services that could reach remote areas. This article reviews several conducted research before and within the pandemic about the challenges and actions of digitalization transformation in the maritime supply chain. The result shows that almost all the research articles reviewed state the importance of digital transformation as the solution of the maritime supply chain interruption due to pandemic that started from the fast and on time exchanged and integrated information to automation of moving goods in the supply chain work processes. Businessmen and the government have the same conclusion that digitalization is an integral part of any solution taken.
