Abstract

Extremism in the digital space continues to grow through narratives that lead to radicalization, necessitating effective strategies for building counter-narratives based on religious moderation. This study aims to identify and develop mentoring strategies for Fatayat NU Sumenep to enhance their agency in promoting religious moderation reasoning in the digital space. Using a qualitative approach, this research employed Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) involving members and leaders of Fatayat NU Sumenep to explore their experiences, understanding, and needs in confronting extremist narratives. The findings indicate that increasing digital literacy, strengthening critical capacity in assessing religious content, and collaborating with various stakeholders are strategic steps in constructing effective counter-narratives. With the right strategies, Fatayat NU Sumenep can become key agents in disseminating moderate Islamic values and countering extremism in the digital space.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is a fundamental step in learning Arabic, as it significantly influences overall language proficiency. According to Hanifah Nur Azizah, language skills develop in proportion to vocabulary acquisition. This study was conducted at Al-Tibyan Islamic Boarding School in Banten, where first-grade students demonstrated low proficiency in Arabic due to limited vocabulary comprehension. Students often struggled to recall the meanings of vocabulary taught or written on the board, which negatively affected their test performance. The lack of effective teaching tools—attributed to the institution's relatively recent establishment—further hindered the learning process. To address this issue, the researcher implemented Wordwall media as a vocabulary teaching tool. The objectives of this study were: (1) to describe the use of Wordwall media in teaching Arabic vocabulary, and (2) to determine its effectiveness in enhancing vocabulary acquisition among first-grade students. The study employed a quasi-experimental design using a pretest-posttest control group method. A total of 22 students were divided into experimental and control groups, with 11 students in each. Data were collected through vocabulary tests administered before and after the intervention. The results showed that the experimental group's average score increased from 09.29 (pre-test) to 36.56 (post-test), while the control group's score rose from 31.82 to 40.00. Statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney U test revealed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the two groups. Thus, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The findings conclude that Wordwall media is effective in teaching vocabulary in Arabic language lessons. It is recommended that this tool be more widely adopted in Arabic language instruction to enhance learning outcomes.

Abstract

Abstract Qiyâm al-laîl is considered one of the most important acts of worship and the noblest obedience recommended by Sharia. It contains two inseparable elements: fiqh and Sufistic. Qiyâm al-laîl is prescribed by Sharia as a form of worship while also containing Sufistic elements aimed at getting closer to Allah. This raises the question of how Tafsir Ahkam and Tafsir Sufi interpret the verses related to qiyâm al-laîl? This article aims to examine qiyâm al-laîl from the perspectives of Sufi Ulama and Ahkam Ulama and compare the two. The study employs qualitative library research using descriptive-analytical methods to explore the data obtained. The results of the study indicate that qiyâm al-laîl involves enlivening the night with primary practices such as tahajjud prayers, witr, reading the Qur'an, dhikr, and contemplation with a sense of solemnity, tawadhu', thuma'ninah, and others. Secondly, it is understood by Ahkam Ulama that qiyâm al-laîl is a command from Allah to the Prophet and his ummah, in addition to obligatory worship. Thirdly, Sufi Ulama interpret the verses of qiyâm al-laîl and conclude that becoming accustomed to waking up at night to pray to Allah is one of the exercises that revitalizes the heart, brings peace of mind, and brings one closer to God. The grand conclusion is that the interpretations of the two Ulama with different backgrounds have a complementary relationship. Both refer to clear sources, but their different scientific backgrounds lead to differing interpretations still within Islam's realm. Keywords: Qiyâm al-Laîl, Tafsir Ahkam, and Tafsir Sufi

Abstract

Abstract Online tahfidz is a programme for memorizing the Qur'an online, using platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp, websites, and others. This research aims to answer two queries: First, what motivates the organizers and participants of the online Tahfidz community? Second, what methods are used to memorize the Qur'an online? This qualitative study of the Living Qur'an uses a phenomenological approach and descriptive-analytical methods. The data were collected through interviews, while the informants were the organizers and participants of the online Tahfidz community. The research concludes that the motivation of the online Tahfidz community organizers is as follows: 1) The occurrence of the pandemic, 2) To preach the Qur'an teachings to the wider community, and 3) To redirect the usage of social media away from negative activities. On the other hand, participants' motivations include 1) Utilizing online media and 2) The ease of access to learning. The methods used to memorize the Qur'an include the bin-nazar method, Tahfidz, Takrir, Tasmi', Talaqqi, and Muraja'ah. The research concluded that this online tahfidz is a breakthrough that is effective and desirable amid the rapid development of technology and the busy activities of urban communities. Abstract

Abstract Shawkat M. Toorawa is a contemporary figure who wants to show the unity of Al-Qur’an by presenting its rhyming translation. According to him, the translator ideally should not only focus on how to copy the content to the diverse languages, but should also maintain the feel of the original text. Because of his translation orientation prioritizes readers understanding – not just copying the text-, he is very detailed and careful in looking for appropriate equivalents of the translated words, including lexical echo and hapax in the Al-Qur’an. Using descriptive analysis method and linguistic approach, the author means to examine Shawkat M. Toorawa’s translation method, as well as his perspective about lexical echoes and hapaxes in the Al-Qur’an. This research reveals three findings. One, the Toorawa’s translation uses a micro-structure approach, it caused the study of micro-structure of the text can produce a macro understanding of the text itself. Two, lexical echo in Al-Qur’an has function to maintain the narrative of the text because it ties the verse that comes later with the previous verse. Three, Toorawa maintains the unique structure of hapax by creating meaning that is appropriate as well as not popularly used in the meaning of other words.
