Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the traditional Ponti game in fostering values of togetherness in early childhood at PAUD Kiddi Care Gorontalo. The Ponti game is a typical Gorontalo game that contains educational values such as honesty, cooperation, discipline, sportsmanship, and tolerance. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through direct observation, semi-structured interviews with teachers and principals, and documentation of children's activities while playing. The results of the observations showed that children showed increased social skills, the ability to work together, and the development of positive attitudes such as honesty and sportsmanship during the game. However, several challenges were also identified, including children's limited understanding of the game's rules, fear of losing, and inadequate play facilities, which hindered the optimal implementation of activities. Interviews with teachers and principals revealed that the Ponti game plays a major role in shaping children's social character and strengthening local cultural identity. However, intensive guidance, emotional habituation, and support facilities are needed to maximize the benefits of this game. These findings suggest that the traditional Ponti game is not only an effective medium of entertainment but also a fun and contextual learning tool that can shape children's character as a whole. Therefore, Ponti games need to be integrated consistently into early childhood learning activities and supported by cultural preservation programs and relevant education policies.

Abstract

This study investigates how puzzle games affect the fine motor development of young children. This study uses a quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental design. The study involved 30 children aged between 4 and 6 years who were divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group received an intervention in the form of puzzle-playing activities for four weeks, with an interval of two to three times a week. On the other hand, the control group did not receive any special treatment for routine learning activities. To collect data, standardized fine motor skills test instruments were used. These included eye-hand coordination, finger movement control, precision, and the ability to assemble and copy shapes. A t-test was used to analyze the data to determine the difference in results between the two groups. The results of the study showed that the experimental group and the control group differed significantly. Compared to children who did not receive treatment, children who were involved in puzzle-playing activities showed greater improvement in all fine motor indicators. The results show that puzzle games can be used effectively as a learning tool to help the fine motor development of early childhood develop well.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of caregivers’ communication styles on children’s social skills at daycare centers in Al-Wathaniyah. The research employed a quantitative correlational approach, involving 50 children aged 3–6 years and their caregivers as research participants. Data were collected through questionnaires and observations measuring caregivers’ communication styles, including verbal, non-verbal, empathy, and responsiveness, as well as children’s social skills, which consist of interaction, sharing, cooperation, and emotional expression. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. The results showed that caregivers’ communication styles were categorized as high, and children’s social skills were also high. A significant positive relationship was found between caregivers’ communication styles and children’s social skills, with a correlation value of r = 0.72 and p < 0.05. This study confirms that caregivers who employ warm, empathetic, and responsive communication can enhance children’s social skills optimally. The findings are relevant for daycare managers, caregivers, and parents to support children’s social development through effective communication.
