Abstract

This study was motivated by the suboptimal development of fine motor skills in children aged 4-5 years at Paramata Bunda Kindergarten, Palopo City. These children experience difficulties in doing tasks that require eye-hand coordination, such as crumpling paper, buttoning, and opening zippers. The purpose of this study was to improve children's fine motor skills by utilizing the Busy Book as a learning medium. This study employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) methodology, based on the Kemmis and Taggart framework, which consisted of two cycles, each comprising four sessions. The research participants consisted of 11 students from class A2 (Tomat A). Data collection methods included observation, interviews, documentation, and assessment. The study's results showed a significant improvement in children's fine motor skills after they used the Busy Book systematically and regularly. At the end of the second cycle, six children were included in the "Already Emerging (SM)" category and five children in the MM category related to finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. This study recommends more intensive and varied use of Busy Books in early childhood education to enhance the development of fine motor skills.

Abstract

The type of research used is Classroom Action Research (PTK), with two cycles, namely Cycle I which consists of 4 meetings and Cycle II which consists of 4 meetings. The subjects of this research were 15 children from group B of the Pembina Baebunta Kindergarten for the 2022-2023 academic year, consisting of 6 boys and 9 girls. The data collection techniques for this research are observation and documentation. The research instrument used was an assessment rubric for student observation sheet guidelines. The data collected was then analyzed using data collection techniques through observation, documentation, reflection, evaluation and quantitative data analysis techniques. The success of this research is determined by the research results scores which show an increase in children's learning outcomes. The score in the initial or pre-action condition was 31.25% of all indicators and did not meet the good category in Cycle I with an average observation score of 58% of all indicators and did not meet the good category. Cycle II with an overall average score of 89.5% of all indicators and reached the good category. Thus, this classroom action research (PTK) was successful so that the researchers recommended learning using Luwu Creation Dance to improve children's gross motor development at Pembina Baebunta Kindergarten.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of Broken Home on children's resilience, the reasons for the emergence of resilience in children aged 4-6 years, and the variables that influence the resilience of children who grow up in Broken Home conditions. The researcher used qualitative research methods to conduct this investigation. Structured interviews, observation sheets, and documentation were used as data collection methods. The triangulation method is used in the data analysis approach, namely: (1) theoretical triangulation, namely comparing data with previous hypotheses (2) triangulation of actual data sources, namely testing the truth using historical data sources from interviews. documentation and observation (3) methodological triangulation using surveys and interviews to collect data on certain topics. The results of the research show that the resilience that occurs in the five children aged 4-6 years can be seen through the six different aspects of children's resilience abilities, namely (1) emotional regulation, (2) impulse control, (3) optimism, (4) empathy , (5) reaching out, and (6) self-efficacy.

Abstract

Purpose – This study addresses the limitations of conventional early childhood worksheets, which often separate cognitive and fine motor activities into isolated tasks. The study aims to develop and evaluate a Brain–Hand integrated worksheet design that combines cognitive processing and fine motor engagement within a single learning activity.Design/methods/approach – An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach was employed. Quantitative data were collected through structured observations and teacher questionnaires, while qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with selected teachers. Sixty early childhood educators participated as implementers and evaluators, with developmental observations conducted among 312 children aged 3–6 years. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired-sample t-tests, whereas qualitative data were analyzed thematically.Findings – The results showed significant improvements in children’s motor and cognitive development following the implementation of Brain–Hand worksheets. Paired-sample t-test results indicated a significant increase in motor skill scores (t(311) = 4.56, p < .001, Cohen’s d = 0.80) and cognitive skill scores (t(311) = 4.12, p < .001, Cohen’s d = 0.75). Teachers also reported high levels of student engagement and positive perceptions regarding the integration of cognitive and fine motor activities. These findings indicate that a structured worksheet design integrating cognitive and fine motor tasks is associated with improvements across both developmental domains.Research implications/limitations – The findings should be interpreted considering several limitations, including purposive sampling, the absence of a control group, and the relatively short intervention period. These factors limit the generalizability of the findings and highlight the need for future longitudinal studies using more objective developmental assessment approaches.Practical implications – The Brain–Hand worksheet model provides educators with a structured approach for designing multisensory learning activities that simultaneously engage children’s thinking processes and fine motor coordination in early childhood classrooms.Originality/value – Unlike conventional worksheets that emphasize cognitive or motor activities separately, the Brain–Hand design systematically integrates both domains within a single instructional framework. This study contributes an applied model for implementing embodied cognition principles in early childhood classroom practices and provides empirical evidence regarding cognitive–motor integration through structured worksheet design.Paper type Research paper
