Abstract

Anemia is a condition in which hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit, or erythrocyte count falls below normal. Teenage girls are at high risk of developing anemia because they have menstrual periods that cause a loss of a lot of iron in the blood. Other factors that can affect anemia are poor nutritional habits and a lack of physical activity. An attempt to reduce the incidence of anemia is to consume foods rich in iron (greens, fruits, and meats) that can increase hemoglobin levels in the blood. This activity was carried out by examining hemoglobin levels in teenage daughters for early detection of anemia and giving an assessment related to anemia. As for the results of the hemoglobin examination in the schoolgirls, of the 35 participants, there were 24 people with a hemoglobin level of <12 g/dL. With knowledge of anemia, a teenage princess is expected to be able to maintain her eating patterns, like choosing foods that are rich in iron.

Abstract

Background: Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) during adolescence can have serious long-term consequences, not only compromising individual health but also increasing the risk of complications during future pregnancies. Local food sources such as moringa oleifera leaves offer a promising strategy to address this issue, given their high iron content. Developing practical, acceptable forms such as cookies and capsules may provide holistic solutions for improving hemoglobin levels. Although both preparations have been shown to significantly enhance hemoglobin levels within the same intervention period, differences in their composition, production methods, and potential iron bioavailability warrant further comparison. Objectives: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of moringa-based cookies and capsules in improving hemoglobin levels among adolescent girls diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia. Method: A quasi-experimental study was conducted in 2024 among 53 female high school students selected through purposive sampling. Hemoglobin concentrations were measured using the Easy Touch GCHb device. Paired t-tests were used to assess changes within each group, and independent t-tests were applied to compare outcomes between groups. Results: The study proved that the mean hemoglobin level in the moringa cookies group increased to 12.52 g/dL (p=0.002), while the capsule group showed an increase to 12.20 g/dL (p=0.001). However, no significant difference was observed between the two interventions (p=0.412). Conclusion: Both moringa cookies and capsules effectively improved hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls with iron deficiency anemia. Nevertheless, there was no significant difference in the extent of improvement between the two forms of supplementation.

Abstract

Masa remaja sangat membutuhkan zat gizi lebih tinggi karena pertumbuhan fisik dan perkembangan yang terjadi saat peralihan dari masa anak-anak ke masa remaja. Terdapat faktor langsung dan tidak langsung mempengaruhi status gizi, diantaranya yaitu kebiasaan makan dan suku yang erat kaitannya dengan pemilihan bahan makanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan suku dan kebiasaan makan dan status gizi remaja putri. Desain penelitian ini adalah Cross Sectional. Populasi adalah siswa/siswi SMA N 1 Batui Selatan sebanyak 440 orang, besar sampel ditentukan menggunakan bantuan tabel Isaac dan Michael dengan kesalahan 5% dan didapatkan 67 orang remaja putri sebagai sampel. Teknik sampel adalah purposive sampling dan penelitian dilakukan bulan Agustus 2023. Pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner untuk mengetahui suku, Recall 1x24 jam untuk mengetahui kebiasaan makan, dan untuk mengetahui status gizi dilakukan pengukuran tinggi badan menggunakan microtoice dan berat badan menggunakan timbangan. Analisa yang digunakan adalah analisa univariat dan bivariat, menggunakan uji statistik Kruskal Wallis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari dari 62 remaja putri terdapat 17 (27.4%) berasal dari suku jawa memiliki status gizi normal dan terdapat pula 45 (72.6%) remaja putri yang memiliki kebiasaan makan 3 kali sehari dengan status gizi normal dan berdasarkan hasil uji Kruskal Wallis didapat nilai p-value = 0.846 untuk hubungan suku dengan status gizi dan nilai p-value =0.494 untuk hubungan kebiasaan makan dengan status gizi. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara suku dan kebiasaan makan terhadap status gizi remaja putri di SMAN N 1 Batui Selatan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan pengetahuan dan sikap guru tentang gizi di sekolah dasar Kecamatan Sampolawa. Sebanyak 30 guru dari berbagai usia dan lama pengalaman mengajar berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini dengan mengisi kuesioner terstruktur yang dirancang khusus. Analisis data menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas responden memiliki pengetahuan yang cukup tentang gizi, namun masih ada sebagian kecil yang memiliki pengetahuan yang kurang memadai. Sikap guru terhadap gizi umumnya positif, walaupun ada beberapa responden yang menunjukkan sikap kurang positif. Hasil penelitian ini memiliki implikasi penting dalam pengembangan program pelatihan gizi yang lebih efektif dan terarah bagi para guru di sekolah dasar. Rekomendasi untuk studi lanjutan mencakup analisis yang lebih mendalam tentang faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pengetahuan dan sikap guru serta evaluasi efektivitas program pelatihan gizi dalam jangka panjang. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi positif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman dan kesadaran guru tentang pentingnya gizi dalam membentuk pola makan sehat anak-anak.

Abstract

The preconception period is the time before pregnancy, during which preconception women are assumed to be adult women or women of childbearing age ready to become mothers, where nutritional needs during this period differ from those of children, adolescents, or the elderly. Pre-marital women suffering from undernutrition can lead to anemia, maternal death during childbirth, fetal death, low birth weight babies (LBW), premature birth, birth defects, and infant death. This study aims to examine the relationship between the nutritional status of preconception women and the consumption of Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMN), nutritional counseling involvement, and the frequency of nutritional counseling attendance.The study design is cross-sectional. The population consists of all preconception women who meet the inclusion criteria in the Batui Selatan district. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, and the study was conducted from October to December 2023. Data collection used a questionnaire to determine MMN consumption and involvement in nutritional counseling, nutritional status was assessed by measuring height, weighing, and measuring mid-upper arm circumference. The analysis used univariate and bivariate, using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the nutritional status of preconception women and the level of MMN consumption (P=0.001), and nutritional status with attendance in nutritional counseling (P=0.005). this it can be concluded that MMN consumption and nutritional counseling affect the nutritional status of preconception women.

Abstract

Along with the development of technology, social media has become an integral part of adolescents' daily lives. This study is concerned with significant changes in the behavioral patterns of high school adolescents, particularly in terms of the consumption of information about nutrition. This study aimed to bridge the knowledge gap and understand the practical implications of the relationship between the use of social media platforms and knowledge and attitudes about nutrition among secondary school adolescents. This type of research is a cross-sectional study approach. This study was conducted in 2024 in the Buton district with a sample in the study of MAN 1 Buton students, using a purposive sampling technique of as many as 37 people. Data analysis used bivariate analysis to test the null hypothesis using the chi-square (X2) formula. This study showed a relationship between the use of social media with knowledge and attitudes about nutrition, with significant results on the frequency of length of use per day (p-value=0,05). In addition, there was also a significant relationship between the type of social media used and attitudes about nutrition (p-value=0,031). This study concludes that its findings have significant implications for health education, particularly in guiding the development of curricula that incorporate social media as an effective and contextually relevant platform for delivering nutrition education to adolescents.
