Abstract

Anemia is a condition in which hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit, or erythrocyte count falls below normal. Teenage girls are at high risk of developing anemia because they have menstrual periods that cause a loss of a lot of iron in the blood. Other factors that can affect anemia are poor nutritional habits and a lack of physical activity. An attempt to reduce the incidence of anemia is to consume foods rich in iron (greens, fruits, and meats) that can increase hemoglobin levels in the blood. This activity was carried out by examining hemoglobin levels in teenage daughters for early detection of anemia and giving an assessment related to anemia. As for the results of the hemoglobin examination in the schoolgirls, of the 35 participants, there were 24 people with a hemoglobin level of <12 g/dL. With knowledge of anemia, a teenage princess is expected to be able to maintain her eating patterns, like choosing foods that are rich in iron.

Abstract

The preconception period is the time before pregnancy, during which preconception women are assumed to be adult women or women of childbearing age ready to become mothers, where nutritional needs during this period differ from those of children, adolescents, or the elderly. Pre-marital women suffering from undernutrition can lead to anemia, maternal death during childbirth, fetal death, low birth weight babies (LBW), premature birth, birth defects, and infant death. This study aims to examine the relationship between the nutritional status of preconception women and the consumption of Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMN), nutritional counseling involvement, and the frequency of nutritional counseling attendance. The study design is cross-sectional. The population consists of all preconception women who meet the inclusion criteria in the Batui Selatan district. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, and the study was conducted from October to December 2023. Data collection used a questionnaire to determine MMN consumption and involvement in nutritional counseling, nutritional status was assessed by measuring height, weighing, and measuring mid-upper arm circumference. The analysis used univariate and bivariate, using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the nutritional status of preconception women and the level of MMN consumption (P=0.001), and nutritional status with attendance in nutritional counseling (P=0.005). this it can be concluded that MMN consumption and nutritional counseling affect the nutritional status of preconception women.

Abstract

University students are a population vulnerable to dietary pattern shifts and reduced physical activity due to academic demands and lifestyle changes. These factors may contribute to both undernutrition and overnutrition. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the association between dietary habits, physical activity, and nutritional status among undergraduate students at Universitas Sebelas Maret. A cross-sectional observational study was conducted involving 150 students selected via simple random sampling from five faculties. Validated questionnaires assessed snacking frequency, late-night eating habits, and physical activity. Nutritional status was determined using Body Mass Index (BMI). Data were analyzed using Chi-square tests. Significant associations were found between nutritional status and snacking frequency (p = 0.000), late-night eating (p = 0.046), and physical activity frequency (p = 0.028). Students who frequently snacked, consumed meals late at night, and engaged in low physical activity tended to exhibit overweight or obesity.Unhealthy dietary behaviors and insufficient physical activity are significantly associated with increased nutritional status among university students. Targeted health promotion and preventive interventions are essential to foster healthier lifestyles in this population.

Abstract

Along with the development of technology, social media has become an integral part of adolescents' daily lives. This study is concerned with significant changes in the behavioral patterns of high school adolescents, particularly in terms of the consumption of information about nutrition. This study aimed to bridge the knowledge gap and understand the practical implications of the relationship between the use of social media platforms and knowledge and attitudes about nutrition among secondary school adolescents. This type of research is a cross-sectional study approach. This study was conducted in 2024 in the Buton district with a sample in the study of MAN 1 Buton students, using a purposive sampling technique of as many as 37 people. Data analysis used bivariate analysis to test the null hypothesis using the chi-square (X2) formula. This study showed a relationship between the use of social media with knowledge and attitudes about nutrition, with significant results on the frequency of length of use per day (p-value=0,05). In addition, there was also a significant relationship between the type of social media used and attitudes about nutrition (p-value=0,031). This study concludes that its findings have significant implications for health education, particularly in guiding the development of curricula that incorporate social media as an effective and contextually relevant platform for delivering nutrition education to adolescents.

Abstract

Social media platforms have become dominant sources of food-related information among adolescents, shaping dietary knowledge, attitudes, and consumption behavior. However, evidence from semi-rural settings in Indonesia remains limited. This study aimed to examine the influence of social media exposure on adolescent dietary knowledge and attitudes in Pasarwajo District, a semi-rural area of Southeast Sulawesi, and to explore its implications for health promotion. A mixed-method cross-sectional design was employed involving 100 adolescents aged 15–18 years who were active social media users. Quantitative data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Fisher’s exact test, while qualitative data from in-depth interviews with 15 adolescents were analyzed thematically. The results showed that daily social media use was significantly associated with higher nutritional knowledge (p = 0.021) and more positive attitudes toward healthy eating (p = 0.039). Female adolescents demonstrated more favorable attitudes than males (p = 0.038). Qualitative findings revealed a dual influence of social media, combining exposure to health-promoting content with frequent fast-food promotions, while family remained an important non-digital influence. This study offers contextual novelty by demonstrating that in a semi-rural Indonesian setting, social media may function not only as a risk factor but also as a complementary channel for strengthening adolescent nutritional awareness when supported by family and school environments. These findings highlight the importance of integrating digital and community-based strategies in adolescent health promotion.
