Abstract

Urban development in North Sumatra Province has experienced significant population mobility growth, yet it still faces challenges such as traffic congestion, air pollution, and limited public transportation. This study aims to analyze the potential implementation of the smart mobility concept to support sustainable development and the transformation toward smart cities in North Sumatra. The research employs a qualitative approach using literature review and descriptive analysis to identify urban mobility conditions, challenges, as well as the inhibiting and supporting factors for smart mobility implementation. The results indicate that smart mobility can enhance transportation efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and improve public service quality. Key supporting factors include government commitment, the growth of the digital ecosystem, and public awareness of green transportation, while inhibiting factors include infrastructure limitations, weak cross-sector coordination, and funding constraints. This study recommends an integrative strategy involving digital infrastructure development, sustainable transportation policies, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and public education to achieve effective and sustainable smart mobility.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Pelanggiran Laut Tador Village, particularly brown sugar and chip producers, have great potential thanks to the availability of local raw materials. However, their competitiveness is hampered by classic problems: very simple product packaging and a marketing strategy limited to word-of-mouth. This community service activity, implemented through the Real Work Lecture (KKN) program, aims to increase the competitiveness of these MSMEs through two main interventions: packaging innovation (rebranding) and marketing digitalization. The implementation methods include socialization, training, and direct mentoring. The results of the activity show significant transformations in branding and marketing aspects. New, more modern, hygienic, and informative packaging has been successfully designed and produced, namely standing pouch packaging for "Keripik Bu Isam" and besek and jar packaging (liquid sugar) for the Brown Sugar MSME. In addition, digital marketing assets have been created in the form of location registration on Google Maps, social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram), WhatsApp Business, and an e-commerce store (Shopee). This program has successfully increased MSMEs' understanding of the importance of branding and opened broader market access through digital platforms.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the adaptation strategies implemented by culinary MSMEs in Tebing Tinggi City in responding to economic pressure. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with MSME owners, field observations, and documentation related to operational and marketing activities. Data analysis was conducted using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings reveal that the adaptation strategies adopted by culinary MSMEs consist of three main categories. First, operational adaptation is carried out through production cost efficiency, adjustment of operating hours, the use of alternative raw materials, and stricter inventory management. Second, product and service innovation is implemented through menu diversification, product simplification, packaging innovation, and improvement of service quality to attract and retain customers. Third, the application of digital marketing is used as a modern adaptation strategy, which includes the utilization of social media, WhatsApp Business, food delivery platforms, and consistent digital branding. These strategies have proven effective in maintaining business stability and sustaining sales turnover amid unstable economic conditions.
