Abstract

Relative clauses are essential for updating specific nouns or pronouns that can be used as explanatory meanings. This research is to study the use of markers "sik" and "kang" in the Javanese language in Klaten. The method in this study is descriptive qualitative. The data extraction technique is the skilful free-reference, while the data analysis technique is recorded analysis and note. The results of this study reveal that the relative marking language indicated by particles "sik" and "kang" uses a composition of relative clause constituents in VO type that can be used to allow the arrangement pattern of main constituents - relative clauses. Javanese language in Klaten is also included in the VO type. The basic strategy of forming its relative clause by placing main constituents in front of relative clauses or relative clauses related to relative markers consists of particles "sik" and "kang". This particle is called a ligature which functions as a connective.

Abstract

A Comparative Historical Linguistic Study of Nine Languages in Flores aims to prove the typology relationship of Flores languages. This research focuses on the typological linguistics study of nine Flores languages. The method in this study is descriptive qualitative-comparative. The results of this study reveal that the Flores languages (Km, Mg, Rb, Ng, Li, Pl, Sk, Lh, and Kd are related. The qualitative evidence is shown by phonological and lexical innovations experienced by the Flores language group at the Proto, Meso, and lower levels. Then, based on the typological linguistic study of 9 Flores languages that are the object of Fernandez's study can be said to be a language group based on genetic typology. However, the research results published by Nusa Indah publisher do not mean they have no shortcomings. Some of the shortcomings in question are not fatal errors, but readers who primarily do not have a linguistic or scientific background will experience a little confusion. Finally, Fernandez's rebuttal to previous research related to language grouping in the archipelago, by calling a single criterion in the form of specific syntactic characteristics as an inappropriate criterion seems to have to be straightened out. Considering the point of view of language typology, studies between syntactic criteria and criteria used in LHK have different final results. The first grouped languages based on the language's internal structure, while LHK looked at and grouped languages based on lineage.

Abstract

The movie "Yes Man" combines both romance and comedy genres, creating an enjoyable and exciting experience for viewers during romantic scenes. This research examines the various implicatures utilized in romantic scenarios in the movie and how they relate to the romantic atmosphere. The author seeks to understand the advantages of implicature within a romantic setting and has employed a qualitative research approach. The data is analyzed by exploring the dialogues' semantic meaning, maxims, context, and implicatures. The author presents two main conclusions. Implicatures that create a romantic atmosphere can be formed by either following all maxims straightforwardly or breaching some maxims. Speakers who adhere to all maxims allow the cooperative principle to function effectively. The writer notes that no implicatures breached the quality maxim, which may be because the speakers want to establish trust with the listeners first to strengthen their relationship. Secondly, the author highlights the benefits of implicatures in romantic situations. Implicatures can be used to demonstrate respect, exception, surprise, and emphasize feelings towards others. Additionally, implicatures can be used to test the emotions of the targets.

Abstract

An idea or attitude that is conveyed through verbal or non-verbal forms, is not necessarily an attitude, and the intention can be appropriate but can be different or even the opposite of what is stated. The process of conveying meaning indirectly is known as conversational implicature. Therefore, this study aims to describe the form/function of conversational implicatures and the meaning in utterances. The method used is the see method. The results obtained related to the form/function of the implicature are the use of representative (assertive), directive (implosives), expressive, commissive, and declarative utterances. Furthermore, the violation of the principle of cooperation and all its maxims further accentuates clashes and games (joking).

Abstract

This study examines the scarcity of indigenous language literacy in Merauke and the pressing threat of local language extinction. Utilizing a qualitative approach and case study method, the research identifies primary factors influencing the decline in the use of local languages, including the dominance of the Indonesian language, lack of documentation and teaching materials in native languages, and limited educational policy support for language preservation. Furthermore, globalization and modernization have driven younger generations to prioritize languages perceived as more economically and socially valuable. The findings reveal that without sustained revitalization efforts, local languages in Merauke face an increased risk of extinction. Recommendations include developing language documentation programs, integrating local languages into school curricula, and fostering community awareness and pride in native languages. This research aims to serve as a foundation for more effective language preservation strategies in Merauke.
