Abstract

This research is descriptive research that aims to identify employee activities in working on international cooperation documents in English and to find out employee perceptions in making documents in the Cooperation and Public Relations section of Makassar State University. This study uses a qualitative method. This research data was collected through interviews, documents, questionnaires. The study's findings revealed that employees' activities when working on English documents were centered on the writing component, which conceptualized and wrote the document's contents, compiled and emphasized organizational ideas, searched for meaning and matched the appropriate vocabulary, corrected and re-checked English grammar, and improved the document mechanism.The researcher found that to reconfirm the use of grammar they used an application, and when they wanted to send documents or e-mails they checked again. The writing mechanism is not a problem because the format is available, so the university only manages which sentences to use and not in the cooperation document.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of service quality on tourist satisfaction in Fort Rotterdam, Makassar. The main population of this study consists of 30 tourists. A study using aggregate sampling theory used a sample size of 30 people. Data collection was done by distributing questionnaires using descriptive methods. The analysis involved the application of simple linear regression using statistical tools. The research results show a positive and significant effect of the variable quality service on the satisfaction of the tourist with a significance value of 0.001 and a coefficient of 0.405. The test results show a calculated t-value of 5.461, which exceeds the critical t-table value of 2.030. This leads to the conclusion that there is a positive and significant relationship between service quality and tourist satisfaction at Fort Rotterdam in Makassar. The effect of service quality on tourist satisfaction is 46%, the remaining 54% is influenced by unknown or unexamined variables in this study.

Abstract

The function of English in introducing micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) in Soppeng Regency through business communication techniques. thesis. English Department D4 at Makassar State University's Faculty of Language and Literature. In order to promote the welfare of its citizens, Indonesia, a growing nation, keeps expanding its collaboration with other nations in a number of areas, including commerce and investment. Consumer purchasing power is currently declining as a result of the crisis that is hitting practically every nation. UMKM in Indonesia is one of the groups impacted by the crisis. SMEs need a strategy to survive and compete in this crisis. This strategy not only targets the local scope but also the international one. One of those strategies is mastering English in the business world. English is an international language that serves as a means of communication for people around the world. The ability to communicate in English can be used in various aspects of life. Language skills for business practitioners can be utilized for optimal product development, whether from SMEs or small businesses, such as marketing. The purpose of this research is to understand the role, constraints, and impact of English as the medium of instruction in business or marketing. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects are MSME actors in Soppeng, with the research period from June to July 2024. The data collection method uses observation, interviews, and documentation techniques. From the research results, the role of English as a medium of communication in interacting with consumers is very important because it impacts long-term business efforts. Moreover, the challenges faced by MSME actors include difficulties in pronunciation and a lack of vocabulary knowledge. very relevant for SMEs because this approach is designed to meet specific language needs in a business context. By focusing on directly applicable communication skills, it enables MSMEs to understand technical terminology, marketing strategies, and negotiation tactics that are often required in international business interactions.

Abstract

Pelatihan budidaya anggrek ini ditujukan bagi mahasiswa Prodi Bahasa Inggris Terapan D4 atau dikenal juga dengan mahasiswa BEC (Business English Communication), Fakultas Bahasa dan Sastra, Universitas Negeri Makassar. Bertujuan untuk mengenalkan budidaya anggrek dan peluang bisnisnya. Pelatihan ini dilaksanakan selama sehari yaitu pada tanggal 8 September 2023, yang diikuti oleh 30 peserta. Pelaksanaan pelatihan menggunakan metode: ceramah, tanya-jawab, demonstrasi, dan praktek. Pelatihan ini diadakan mengingat bahwa salah satu misi Prodi Business English Communication adalah menumbuhkan semangat kewirausahaan dimana mahasiswa diajarkan berbagai jenis keterampilan yang mengarah ke wirausaha (bisnis). Pengetahuan dan keterampilan itu diharapkan kelak bermanfaat bagi mahasiswa saat mereka telah menyelesaikan studi mereka. Hasil dari pelatihan ini adalah keterampilan yang diperoleh mahasiswa dalam mengenali jenis-jenis anggrek yang potensial untuk dibisniskan, cara menanam dan merawat anggrek dalam berbagai tahap umur, teknik perbanyakan anggrek, pencegahan dan pembasmian hama dan penyakit, serta kiat-kiat yang perlu dipahami agar dapat berhasil di dunia bisnis anggrek.

Abstract

Dalam kondisi “New normal” saat ini, perlu menjadi perhatian utama terutama di saat pemerintah tengah mempersiapkan pembukaan kembali sekolah dalam segi peningkatan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya menjaga kebersihan pribadi dengan mematuhi protokol kesehatan yang telah dikeluarkan oleh pemerintah (3M=mencuci tangan, memakai masker, menjaga jarak). Pemanfaatan alat cuci tangan (wastafel portabel) di lokasi tempat sekolah yang berbasis asrama tentunya sangat dibutuhkan sebagai sarana pendukung dalam meminimalisir terjadinya penyebaran Covid-19 pada institusi pendidikan. Kegiatan Program Kemitraan Masyrakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi pada masyarakat di lingkungan sekolah dan asrama tentang persiapan pembukaan kembali sekolah di dalam masa “New Normal” dengan tetap memperhatikan protokol kesehatan untuk mencegah penyebaran Covid-19 dengan cara memberikan bantuan dan sosialisasi penggunaan alat wastafel portabel sistem knockdown sebagai media cuci tangan di SMA Insan Cendekia Syech Yusuf Gowa. Pelaksanaan kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan melalui tahapan pembuatan desain wastafel portabel dan desain banner/baliho, pengadaan bahan untuk kebutuhan pembuatan wastafel dan pencetakan banner/baliho, pembuatan/perakitan dan penyelesain akhir (finishing), serta ujicoba dan pemberian bantuan beserta demo penggunaan alat. Waktu pelaksanaan kegiatan dilakukan selama sehari dengan persiapan awal selama 3 bulan sebelumnya

Abstract

This research examines the strategies used by Business English communication students in mastering new vocabulary within the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course. Using a qualitative research design, data were collected through interviews and questionnaires. The findings indicate that cognitive strategies such as constructing sentences or paragraphs, extensive reading, and watching movies or listening to music help students gain a deeper and more natural understanding of vocabulary usage, thereby strengthening long-term retention. As a result, these strategies are employed by the majority of Business English Communication students to master new vocabulary in the ESP course.Meanwhile, memory strategies, such as mnemonics and flashcards, have proven effective in enhancing short-term memory, enabling students to quickly memorize technical terms. Group discussions, as a social strategy, also have a positive impact by providing an interactive learning environment that enhances contextual understanding and builds confidence in using academic vocabulary.Furthermore, this research highlights that the effectiveness of each strategy depends on its alignment with students' individual needs and learning styles. A well-suited combination of strategies can enrich vocabulary learning experiences in the ESP course, improving memory, comprehension, and the application of vocabulary in professional contexts. Ultimately, these strategies prepare students to succeed in future academic and professional environments.

Abstract

This study describes how effective public speaking techniques help communicate the unique features and benefits of Mercure Hotel in Makassar. Public speaking is crucial in the hospitality industry for influencing customer perceptions and enhancing engagement. The research utilizes qualitative methods through questionnaires, distributed both online and face-to-face, to capture the perspectives of hotel guests and staff. The findings show that verbal and nonverbal communication significantly improve customer satisfaction and loyalty. Verbal communication helps convey clear messages, while nonverbal elements like eye contact and body language strengthen emotional connections. This study suggests that training hotel staff in public speaking can enhance their ability to effectively engage with customers and promote the hotel's offerings, thereby increasing guest loyalty and brand reputation.
