Abstract

Abstract

The Regional Head Election (Pemilukada) in Indonesia, particularly in Aceh, has undergone significant changes with the emergence of independent candidates who are not affiliated with political parties. This study aims to analyze the existence of independent candidates in the Aceh Besar Pemilukada of 2024, focusing on the victory of the independent candidate pair, Muharram Idris and Syukri, who successfully garnered 33.8% of the votes, using social capital theory for analysis. This victory raises questions about the factors influencing their success amid fierce competition from candidates representing major political parties. Through a qualitative approach and case study method, this research collects primary data through interviews and observations, as well as secondary data from literature and media sources. The findings indicate that social capital, which includes networks, trust, and cooperation, plays a crucial role in supporting independent candidates. This study also highlights how the emergence of independent candidates reflects public dissatisfaction with nominations put forth by political parties, while providing an opportunity for the community to engage directly in the democratic process. These findings are expected to offer new insights into the dynamics of Pemilukada in Aceh and the contributions of independent candidates to the development of local democracy.

Abstract

First-time voters play a crucial role in the electoral and regional election (Pilkada) processes and represent one of the most vulnerable groups to the influence of misinformation, which often proliferates during election periods. Their high exposure to social media significantly increases the likelihood of encountering and spreading hoaxes. Therefore, it is essential to enhance their understanding and awareness to prevent them from becoming both targets and agents of misinformation. As part of a community engagement initiative ahead of the 2024 regional elections, lecturers from Teuku Umar University conducted a political education program aimed at senior high school students—who largely comprise first-time voters. This outreach focused on raising awareness about the dangers of hoaxes and how to avoid their spread. The primary objective of this initiative was to increase first-time voters' awareness of the importance of verifying information before accepting or disseminating it. In addition, it sought to provide knowledge on how to identify hoaxes and recognize credible information sources. The method employed was participatory socialization, involving presentations on hoaxes, video screenings illustrating their dangers and impacts, and interactive Q&A sessions between facilitators and student participants. This activity successfully enhanced participants’ understanding and encouraged them to actively seek accurate information, thereby reducing the risk of being misled by false narratives

Abstract

The development of mangrove forest tourism in Langsa City requires cooperation from various stakeholders. The phenomenon of tourist destinations in the era of globalization continues to grow and advance, giving rise to creative and innovative ideas that make these tourist attractions unique and attractive to visitors. This study investigates the cooperative initiatives in the management and promotion of mangrove forest ecotourism in Langsa City, Aceh. This study seeks to clarify how stakeholder collaboration might promote the growth and improvement of mangrove forest ecotourism. The collaboration among institutions is the principal strength in the progression of ecotourism, where support from all stakeholders is essential for the development process to proceed as expected. This study utilizes a qualitative technique, including data collection methods like observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research findings indicate that collaboration among various stakeholders, including the mangrove forest manager PT. PEKOLA (a regional enterprise), the local government (particularly the Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office), universities, customary institutions (such as village heads and the Aceh Customary Council), and banking, has been successfully established. Each stakeholder is essential in the governance and development of mangrove ecotourism, whether as policymakers, implementers, or advocates for mangrove forest conservation.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines the attitudes of the Indonesian society toward the Russia–Ukraine war by exploring the historical background, social values, and international political dynamics that influence their alignment. This research uses Max Weber’s social action theory to identify the motives and meanings behind public support for Russia, Ukraine, or a neutral stance. Data were collected through web scraping of netizen comments on Tribunnews and Harian Kompas YouTube channels and analyzed using content analysis. The findings reveal that most Indonesians support Russia, some support Ukraine, and a few remain neutral. Support for Russia is influenced by the historical ties between Indonesia and the former Soviet Union, anti-Western hegemony views, and positive perceptions of Putin’s leadership. Conversely, support for Ukraine is driven by humanitarian values, opposition to colonialism, and respect for national sovereignty. Neutral positions are rooted in Indonesia’s foreign policy principle and non-aligned tradition. The results underscore how political orientation, historical values, and collective emotions shape the social construction of Indonesian public support in this international conflict. Keyword: Russia–Ukraine; Support; The Indonesian Society
