Abstract

The purpose of this workshop was to enhance educators’ understanding and skills in designing and implementing assessment integrated with the principles and learning experiences of the deep learning approach in early childhood education (ECE). The workshop employed an andragogical approach, facilitated discussions, case studies, simulations, and hands-on practice grounded in local contexts. In this approach, assessment is positioned not merely as a measurement tool, but as an integral part of the child’s learning process. Participants included academics, supervisors, school principals, and ECE teachers. The results indicate that formative assessments (Assessment for Learning and Assessment as Learning) and summative assessment (Assessment of Learning) contextually support children's core learning experiences: understanding, applying, and reflecting. Assessment practices were carried out through systematic observation, portfolios, guided reflection, and project-based documentation. Findings highlight the importance of aligning assessment with meaningful, mindful, and joyful learning principles, and of cross-role collaboration in planning and implementation. This article recommends teacher training, the development of context-based assessment guidelines, the strengthening of professional learning communities, and the integration of digital support to promote reflective and child-centered assessment practices

Abstract

This study aims to develop an interactive PowerPoint-based learning media for the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subject on the topic of landforms for third-grade elementary school students. The background of this study is based on the low level of student engagement and participation in learning, which is still dominated by lecture methods and the use of less varied media. Therefore, innovative or interactive learning media are needed to improve the quality of the learning process. This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, which consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The subjects of this study included media experts, material experts, teachers, and third-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and tests. The data were analysed using descriptive quantitative methods to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the developed learning media. The results of the study indicate that the interactive PowerPoint learning media achieved a validity level of 93.56% (very valid), a practicality level of 96.93% (very practical), and an effectiveness level of 90% (very effective). These results indicate that the developed learning media can improve students’ understanding and engagement in the learning process. In conclusion, the interactive PowerPoint learning media developed in this study is feasible to be used as an alternative learning media to enhance the quality of learning on the topic of landforms in elementary schools. Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning concentration of children aged 4–5 years at TK St. Yoseph Naikoten II Kupang, as indicated by several children who had difficulty maintaining attention during learning activities. The study aimed to describe teachers' classroom management skills in improving children's learning concentration. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The participants consisted of two Class A1 teachers and seven children aged 4–5 years. Data were collected through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data validity was ensured through technique triangulation, while data were analyzed through data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings showed that teachers demonstrated good classroom management skills through physical classroom management, time management, interaction management, behavior management, and the creation of a positive emotional atmosphere. These practices supported children's learning concentration, which was reflected in their ability to pay attention to learning materials, respond to teachers' instructions, apply acquired knowledge, express ideas or opinions, demonstrate interest in learning activities, and remain engaged throughout the learning process. The study concludes that teachers' classroom management skills play an important role in improving the learning concentration of children aged 4–5 years by creating a conducive learning environment. Abstract

Listening skill is one of the important aspects of early childhood language development. Based on preliminary observations at TK Kristen Citra Bangsa Mandiri Kupang, the listening ability of children aged 5–6 years had not developed optimally. This study aimed to determine the effect of using hand puppet media on the listening ability of children aged 5–6 years at TK Kristen Citra Bangsa Mandiri Kupang. This research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method using a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample consisted of 10 children selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Paired Sample t-test. The results showed that the use of hand puppet media had a significant effect on children's listening ability. This was indicated by an increase in the mean score from 12.3 in the pretest to 17.9 in the posttest, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of hand puppet media significantly improves the listening ability of children aged 5–6 years. Hand puppet media can attract children's attention, helping them focus, understand instructions, answer questions, and retell information received during the learning process.

Abstract

Management of educational facilities and infrastructure is an essential aspect of improving the quality of the learning process in Early Childhood Education (ECE). This study aims to describe the management of educational facilities and infrastructure in supporting the learning process at PAUD Agustinus Natanangge. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings indicate that the management of educational facilities and infrastructure has been implemented through planning, procurement, inventory, utilization, maintenance, and disposal. These management practices have supported the learning process; however, limited financial resources remain the main challenge in fulfilling the school's facility needs. Therefore, support from the government and other stakeholders is required to improve the management of educational facilities and infrastructure and enhance the quality of learning.
