Abstract

Pejaten pottery is one of the aesthetically unique potteries. The pottery has various ornaments such as god ornaments, god weapons, barong, and animals and plants. These ornaments are often found in Hindu worship ceremonies. This shows that, aesthetically, Pejaten pottery cannot be separated from Hindu aesthetics, so it is interesting to study. The problem is how the implementation of Hindu aesthetics in Pejaten pottery works and how Hindu aesthetics is used as a strategy for preserving Hindu aesthetics in Pejaten pottery. This study aims to determine the basis for applying Hindu aesthetics as a strategy for preserving Pejaten pottery. This qualitative research took the location of Pejaten Village, Kediri District, Tabanan Regency, Bali. Data were collected by direct observation, interviews, and also collecting literature data related to Hindu aesthetics. The aesthetic analysis process of Pejaten pottery is carried out using the concepts of Rwa bhineda (balance), satyam (truth), sivam (holiness), sundaram (beauty), and Pangider Bhuana (Pangider-ider). This study indicates that the ornaments and various forms of Pejaten pottery have a strong Hindu philosophical foundation, and this shows the religious nature of the Pejaten pottery craftsman. The conclusion is that the religiosity of the Pejaten pottery craftsmen is very influential in their creative process, and this is significantly able to maintain the preservation of the Hindu aesthetics of Pejaten pottery, Bali

The production of avatars cannot be separated from the unconscious mind of the players, the unconscious desire, ego and ideology. This avatar creation process continues ongoing, following the progress of the video game story. The decision, the path, and the act that the player take in completing the story are gradually reshaping the avatar. In the end, the avatar eventually became a manifestation and reflection of the unconscious minds of the video game players. Abstract

Abstract

This article aims to review how anthropology and art pay attention to art, especially to similar studies that have been carried out in Indonesia. Based on this, it is also to show the implicit meaning of some propositions and associations of ideas from an anthropological perspective that can be considered for the study of art. In this sense, it is not to solve the great questions of the anthropology of art or confine oneself to the virtues of anthropology for art but to broaden the horizons in which they must be considered.

Abstract

After the fall of the Soeharto regime was like the fresh air for the ethnic Chinese in Indonesia inarticulating cultural identities, especially after the issuance of Presidential decree Number 6 of 2000which revoked Presidential Instruction Number 14 of 1967 on religion, beliefs, and customs of China. With that Presidential decree, Chinese people were free to celebrate the religious ceremony and customs,as well as featuring Barongsai (Lion Dance) in front of public. Consequently, Barongsai became popularand transformed into a cultural icon as well as “obligatory menu” for city event. Barongsai allegedlyunderwent commodification along with its popularity. However, that signal was responded byBarongsai activists as the consequence of efforts to survive and conquer the market. Through the mindsetof yin and yang, commodification discourse is abrogated and appropriated by Barongsai activists, socommodification is not just an effort to maintain and preserve the ancestral cultural heritage, identity, and cultural pride due to the accomplishments achieved

Abstract

The visualization of the Gorontalonese bridal costume worn at the wedding reception is increasingly diverse in terms of the modification forms. The modification can be seen in the design elements including shape, texture, color, material, and accessory. Furthermore, the modification of the current costume makes the functional value of the bridal costume different from the already patterned one, which can be seen from its social, symbolic, and economic values of the Gorontalo community. The data in this study was collected through the review of books and previous studies related to the wedding clothing, the interviews, and the observation of bridal costumes and analyzed using the qualitative data analysis approach. The observation of unmodified bridal costume objects was done at the Dulahopa Traditional House in Gorontalo, while that of modified bridal costume objects was conducted on the widely used bridal costumes within the last two years in Gorontalo. The purpose of this study was to find out the aspects underlying the modification of bridal costume in Gorontalo. The results show that Gorontalo people tend to choose modified wedding dresses in the wedding party. Moreover, this study suggests that the bridal costume modification is influenced by the family’s social status in Gorontalonese community, migratory Gorontalonese people (staying outside the area of origin), and technological advancement.
