Abstract

The effect of the patient's anxiety before performing an esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) action affects the patients' hemodynamics, it can affect the process of such actions when they are performed, usually anxieties are affected by the feeling of being that appears as a result of poor perception of the action to be done, negative perceptions appear often caused by a lack of information about the actions to be performed. Nursing care is very influential to the patient, one of the nursing model theories that can be applied to patients undergoing esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) with the theory of Human Caring by Jean Watson. The nursing process focuses more on health promotion, disease prevention, care for the sick, and physical recovery. The author differentiates the nursing case/orphanage report by applying Jean Watson's model theory using nursery process methods that include the examination, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of these nurses' orphanages. The result of the implementation that has been done is that the patient feels a change in perception in which the patient experiences a decrease in the level of anxiety after performing a personal caring approach in accordance with Jean Watson's Model Theory.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Gastroscopy is a diagnostic procedure to view organs visually using a lat connected to a monitor, the organs viewed are the esophagus, gastric and duodenum. Anxiety in patients before gastroscopy occurs due to fear by imagining. Education is carried out as a pre-action procedure to explain the actions that will be performed. Objective: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the effect of audio-visual education on patient anxiety before gastroscopy. Results: Four articles were included in this study, audiovisual education significantly reduced patients' anxiety before gastroscopy using Visual analogue scale (VAS); one study used Anxiety and Stress Scale-42 (DASS-42) and one study used State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). Based on a randomized control trial, it was found that education was effective in reducing anxiety by -4.38 (95% CI: -14.3796 to 5.6198), indicating insignificant results. And obtained I² value of 99.9607%, Q value of 1017.3516, and P value <0.0001 which means that heterogeneity is high. The range of results obtained was -26.7290 to 17.9692 with three negative results and one possible positive result (Khan, et.all, 2023) with a residual value of (± 2.4977) In the regression test results showed asymmetry in the flores plot (p < 0.0001) but did not show a rank correlation test (p = 0.7500). Clinical Implications: Audio-visual education is a potentially promising method for controlling anxiety in patients undergoing gastroscopy; however, its effect in controlling anxiety is controversial.

Abstract

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients undergoing hemodialysis often experience fatigue as one of the most common and disruptive symptoms. Fatigue, if not properly managed, can impact quality of life and adherence to therapy. Objective: This study aimed to determine the level of fatigue in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis in a hospital. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. Forty-seven patients undergoing regular hemodialysis were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire and analyzed descriptively. Results: The study showed that most patients experienced severe fatigue. Thirty respondents (63.8%) experienced severe fatigue, while 17 respondents (36.2%) experienced mild fatigue. Conclusion: The majority of CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis in a hospital experience severe fatigue. These results highlight the need for greater attention to fatigue management, including a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and education to improve their quality of life.
