Abstract

Mathematics learning process that is still centered on the teacher caused the low ability of mathematical connections of students in grade VIII SMPN 1 Baso. This study aims to determine whether the mathematical connection ability of students using Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) learning model is better than the mathematical connection ability of students using conventional learning. The type of this research is experimental research with Randomized control group only design. The population in this study is the students of class VIII SMPN 1 Baso consisting of seven classes. Samples taken from the population were taken by Random Sampling technique. The selected sample is class VIII4 as the experimental class and class VIII3 as the control class. Data analysis technique using t test. The result of tcalculation = 7,18 and ttable = 1,679, because tcount> ttable concluded that the mathematical connection ability of students using Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) learning model is better than the students' mathematical connection ability using conventional learning in grade VIII SMPN 1 Baso Lesson Year 2017/2018

Abstract

Dilatar belakangi banyaknya kelemahan pelaksanaan Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh(PJJ) diantaranya kesulitan dalam memantau aktifitas belajar mahasiswa, keterbatasan dosen saat menjelaskan konsep mater serta jaringan internet yang kadang tidak stabil. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan dasar-dasar aljabar melalui kegiatan  matrikulasi untuk mahasiswa baru program studi Manageman Logistik Industri Agro Politeknik ATI Padang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental dengan One Group Pretes-Postes Desing. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik total sampling. Teknik pengumpulan dengan metode tes untuk memperoleh nilai awal dan akhir matrikulasi. Uji hipotesis penelitian menggunakan uji-t. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan sebagai berikut. (1) Rata-rata nilai matrikulasi mahasiswa setelah pelaksanan kegiatan matrikulasi lebih tinggi dari pada nilai rata-rata mahasiswa sebelum pelaksanaan kegiataaan (2) Melalui kegitan matrikulasi dapat meningkatkan kemampuan dasar-dasar aljabar mahasiswa baru program studi Manageman Logistik Industri Agro Politeknik ATI Padang

Abstract

This research began with the lowness of students' mathematical communication skills, one of which is caused by pembelajaaran which remains centered on the teacher. One effort to overcome the problem is to apply the model of contextual learning. This study aims to determine the mathematical communication skills of students who take the learning with contextual learning model is better than the students who take the conventional learning models in class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Baso. This type of research is experimental research design that Randomized Control Only Design. The population in this study was grade VIII1, VIII2, VIII3, VIII3, VIII4, VIII5 SMP Negeri 1 Baso in academic year 2016/2017. Sampling was done by using Random Sampling. Class VIII1 an experimental class and class VIII4 a control class. Instrument of research is mathematical communication ability test. Analysis of the data used is the t test. Hypothesis test results obtained and with and df = 43, so. Based on the criteria for means test reject H0 and it can be concluded that the mathematical communication skills students learn by using contextual learning model is better than learning by using conventional learning models. Abstract

Many elementary school students experience difficulties in recognizing letters, reading by spelling, reading fluently, and understanding simple reading texts, which affect their overall learning outcomes. Therefore, an effective reading assistance program is needed to improve students’ reading literacy skills gradually and continuously. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the Priority Reading Optimistic (PRO) Movement in improving elementary school students’ reading literacy skills at SD Negeri 21 Pasir Tinggi. The study was motivated by the low reading ability of students, as indicated by difficulties in recognizing letters, reading with spelling, slow reading, and low comprehension of simple texts. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach supported by simple quantitative data. The research subjects consisted of 31 students who experienced reading difficulties. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the implementation of the Priority Reading Optimistic (PRO) Movement had a positive impact on improving students’ reading literacy skills. Reading assistance was conducted gradually through grouping students based on their reading abilities, routine reading exercises, individual mentoring, and interactive learning activities. After the implementation of the program, the number of students experiencing reading difficulties decreased in several indicators, such as letter recognition, reading by spelling, pronunciation errors, and slow reading. In addition, students’ reading fluency and comprehension of simple texts also improved significantly. The program not only improved students’ reading abilities but also increased their learning motivation and self-confidence in reading activities.
