Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of politics and power on athlete development in the modern sports world. In the current development of sports, politics and power play a significant role in determining policies, funding, coaching systems, and athlete achievements at both national and international levels. The research method used is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach through literature studies from various journals, books, and relevant scientific sources. The results of the study indicate that political involvement can have positive impacts, such as increasing budget support, developing sports facilities, and establishing regulations that support athlete achievement. However, politics and power can also have negative impacts when there is excessive intervention, unfairness in athlete selection, and the existence of certain group interests that influence the sports development system. Therefore, professional, transparent, and achievement-oriented sports organization management is needed so that the sports world can develop optimally and fairly.

In the development of modern sports science, sports sociology has an important position because it is able to integrate various disciplines such as education, psychology, culture, economics, and politics in understanding sports phenomena comprehensively. This study aims to analyze the existence and urgency of sports sociology as an integrative discipline in sports science. The research method used is a literature study with a qualitative descriptive approach through the examination of scientific journals, books, and relevant academic sources. The results of the study indicate that sports sociology has a strategic role in understanding various social phenomena in sports, such as character building, social interaction, group solidarity, gender discrimination, sports globalization, and the commercialization of modern sports. In addition, sociological approaches in sports also contribute to the development of sports education and athlete coaching through understanding social and cultural factors that influence sports achievement. Abstract

Sport is often viewed as a social space that upholds the values of equality, sportsmanship, and equal opportunities for all members of society. However, in practice, the world of sport still exhibits significant social stratification and inequality. This study aims to analyze how social stratification affects individual access, participation, achievement, and opportunities in sport. The study employed a qualitative method with a literature review approach through analysis of various journals, books, and scholarly articles related to the sociology of sport. The results indicate that economic factors, education, gender, residential area, and social capital significantly influence a person's involvement in sport. Certain sports tend to be identified with specific social groups, creating indirect barriers for lower-class communities. Furthermore, unequal distribution of sports facilities also reinforces the inequality between urban and rural communities. This study confirms that sport is not entirely free from the influence of social structures. Therefore, more inclusive policies are needed to ensure equitable access to sport for all levels of society.

Traditional sports function as a medium for preserving culture and community identity, whereas modern sports have evolved with characteristics of professionalism, standardized rules, and a performance-oriented focus. The transition from traditional sports to modern sports has had a positive impact in the form of advancements in sports science and the professionalization of sports; however, it also has the potential to cause a shift in cultural values and a decline in the presence of traditional sports. Therefore, efforts at preservation and adaptation are necessary to ensure that cultural values in sports are maintained amid the development of modern sports.

Abstract

Social deviance and social problems in sports have become increasingly complex along with the development of modern sports. Various issues such as violence in sports, doping, gender discrimination, unfair competition, and declining sportsmanship can negatively affect the integrity and educational values of sports. This study aims to analyse the forms, causes, impacts, and prevention efforts related to social deviance and social problems in sports. The research employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by examining scientific articles and relevant references published between 2021 and 2026. Data were collected through the processes of identification, selection, evaluation, and synthesis of literature related to sports sociology and social issues in sports. The results indicate that social deviance in sports is influenced by individual, social, cultural, and organizational factors. The most frequently reported forms of deviance include violence, doping, and gender discrimination. These problems contribute to the decline of sportsmanship, public trust, fairness, and the integrity of sporting competitions. Furthermore, the findings reveal that preventive efforts can be implemented through strengthening regulations, ethical education, character development, and the promotion of fair play values.
