Abstract

This research aimed to apply Norman Fairclough theory in the Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s balcony speech in front of the party's headquarters, Arkan, Turkey. This research used Norman Fairclough theory of the textual analysis, analysis of the practice of discourse, and analysis of sociocultural. The method used in this study is a qualitative research method to approach critical discourse analysis. This study used observation techniques. The results obtained are as follows: (1) The textual analysis in his official greeting speech of Erdogan consist of three parts: the text structure, grammar and coherence. (2) Analysis of the practice of three stages: namely the process of earning a discourse, process deployment, and the use of discourse. (3) Analysis of sociocultural practices in his official speech of Erdogan consist of three levels, namely the level of: situational, institutional, and social.

Abstract

This research aimed to identify the types of grammatical cohesion, as well as to describe the realizations of grammatical cohesion used in international newspapers. The data of this research were clauses, phrases, and words. This study departed from the theory of grammatical cohesion from Halliday & Hasan (1976) and the theory of conjunctive system by Halliday & Matthiesen (2014). The sources of data were Thai Cave Rescue news in British Broadcasting Corporation, Russia Today, France 24, Voice of America and China Central Television newspapers. The method used in this research was qualitative. It provided the types that reference (43%) was predominant with personal and comparative reference, was realized by anaphoric and cataphoric. Conjunction (42%) with the additive, temporal, adversative, matter, clarifying, conditional, varying and cause conjunction, was realized by the conjunctive system. Substitution (10%) with nominal and verbal substitution was realized by replacing one item by another. Ellipsis (5%) with clausal and nominal ellipsis, was realized by eluding a noun, verb or clause and recovering it by referring to an element in the preceding text. The finding revealed that the news texts seldom use other types of the grammatical cohesion especially the use of ellipsis and substitution which were possible to be used in writing because most researchers stated that both ellipsis and substitution were commonly found in speaking.Keywords:grammatical cohesion, Thai cave rescue news, international newspaper

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the insight of Akademi Komunitas Negeri Putra Sang Fajar Blitar students regarding the use of online platforms as a substitute for face-to-face learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research departs from the impact caused by the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, where all learning activities are carried out online. Materials and Methods. The method used in this research is qualitative. The data source is the result of a questionnaire via google form and conducted interviews with 5 selected students from each study program, of which a total of 20 students were analyzed in detail. The sampling technique used in this study was random sampling by distributing questionnaires via google forms and conducting interviews to explore students' perceptions of the use of social media in learning English. Results. The results of the research show that the use of online platforms in learning is very different from what students use in everyday life. It obtained that the zoom application is most often used as an alternative to online learning. Meanwhile, the WhatsApp application is often used by students in daily communication. Conclusion. The use of online platforms as learning alternatives provides several conveniences in the teaching and learning process in the pandemic era, such as time flexibility, interaction, and fun. However, it cannot be denied that the use of online platforms in learning also has obstacles, such as very monotonous learning, internet quota, difficulties in expressing creativity, poor responses, and uncertain schedules.

Abstract

Objektif. Pemasangan alat IoT-Agri, sebagai sistem pemantauan kondisi lingkungan tanam berbasis Internet of Things, menghasilkan sejumlah besar data rekam kondisi lingkungan tanam. Melalui pendekatan data mining, data rekam yang terdiri dari waktu tanam, pH air, suhu air, suhu udara, dan nilai TDS dapat digunakan untuk memetakan kondisi lingkungan penanaman. Pemetaan selanjutnya dapat digunakan sebagai dasar sistem keputusan tindakan pertanian. Material and Metode. Pemetaan kondisi lingkungan tanam menggunakan algoritma k-means clustering, diuji menggunakan elbow method dan dijadikan dasar sistem keputusan tindakan pertanian yang dikirimkan melalui telegram bot. Hasil. Kondisi lingkungan tanam dipetakan dalam 3 (tiga) cluster. Masing-masing merupakan kondisi lingkungan tanam yang kurang nutrisi dan kurang air, cukup nutrisi tapi kurang air, serta cukup nutrisi dan cukup air. Pengujian clustering dengan elbow method menunjukkan bahwa pemetaan Kondisi lingkungan tanam bernilai optimal ditunjukkan dengan nilai inersia sebesar 199,065. Keputusan tindakan pertanian dikirimkan melalui telegram bot berupa instruksi penambahan unsur hara, penambahan air, dan penambahan unsur hara serta air. Kesimpulan. Data yang diperoleh dari pemasangan alat IoT-Agri dikelola menggunakan pendekatan data mining, dipetakan berdasarkan kecukupan dan/atau kebutuhan lingkungan tanam terhadap nutrisi dan air. Secara efektif, keputusan tindakan pertanian dapat diberikan kepada petani sesuai dengan kondisi lingkungan tanam saat ini.

Abstract

Pengabdian ini dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Anak Berkebutuhan Khusus (ABK) di SLBN 4 Kota Blitar melalui penerapan aplikasi "Hallo-Ivy" yang berbasis metode Total Physical Response (TPR). Topik ini dipilih karena keterbatasan metode pengajaran konvensional dan minimnya penggunaan teknologi dalam proses pembelajaran yang berdampak pada efektivitas belajar siswa ABK. Metode TPR diadaptasi dalam aplikasi "Hallo-Ivy" untuk menggabungkan aktivitas fisik dengan pembelajaran bahasa melalui visualisasi kosakata dalam bentuk audio dan video yang interaktif. Pengabdian ini menggunakan pendekatan difusi ipteks dengan melakukan pelatihan dan pendampingan kepada guru dan siswa dalam menggunakan aplikasi "Hallo-Ivy". Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kemampuan bahasa siswa ABK, diikuti dengan peningkatan efisiensi pengajaran bagi guru. Aplikasi ini juga memperbaiki sistem dokumentasi perkembangan siswa, memudahkan orang tua dalam memantau kemajuan belajar anak. Kesimpulannya, penerapan aplikasi "Hallo-Ivy" telah memberikan kontribusi positif dalam proses pembelajaran di SLBN 4 Kota Blitar, serta mendukung upaya pendidikan inklusif yang lebih efektif dan efisien. Hasil pengabdian ini menegaskan pentingnya integrasi teknologi dalam pendidikan khusus untuk mencapai hasil belajar yang optimal

Abstract

Writing procedure texts in English is an important skill for vocational students, especially those in practice-based programs. These texts are used in workplaces to give instructions or explain steps clearly and accurately. The Genre-Based Approach (GBA) is often used to help students write better by teaching them the structure and purpose of different types of texts. While many studies have shown that GBA helps students organize their writing, few have looked closely at the language mistakes students still make after learning with this method. Methods. This study used a qualitative descriptive design to analyze the errors in 30 procedure texts written by students in the Audio-Visual Editing program at AKN Putra Sang Fajar Blitar. These texts were collected after students completed two cycles of learning with the GBA. The errors were analyzed using the Surface Strategy Taxonomy, focusing on four categories: omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. Two raters checked and coded the data, and additional data from teacher notes and student feedback were used to support the findings. Results. The results showed that most students could follow the correct structure of a procedure text. However, many still made language mistakes. Misformation (wrong word forms) and omission (missing words) were the most common errors. These errors often affected the clarity and meaning of the instructions. This shows that while GBA helps students with text organization, it does not always help improve grammar or sentence accuracy. Conclusions. Genre-based instruction helps students understand how to organize their writing, but it should be combined with a greater focus on grammar and language use. Teachers should include grammar practice and give detailed feedback on errors. This combination can help vocational students write more precise and more correct texts for real-world communication.

Abstract

This research implemented the Integrated Performance Assessment (IPA) model within the context of vocational English for communication learning. The IPA model, proposed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), serves as a comprehensive framework aimed at unifying teaching and assessment methodologies to enhance students' speaking abilities. The primary objective of this research is to evaluate the efficacy of the IPA model in improving students' communication skills within a vocational English setting. First-semester students at AKN Blitar serve as the subjects of this research. A mixed-method approach is employed, encompassing both quantitative and qualitative analyses. Pre-test and post-test stages are conducted, with student scores calculated using the Shapiro-Wilk test to ensure the validity of the findings. The results of this research demonstrate a significant improvement in students' communication skills following the implementation of the IPA model. Despite the observed increase in scores between the pre-test and post-test stages, further investigation reveals that the significance value (p) remains above 0.05 (sig. > 0.05), underscoring the need for continued assessment and refinement of the IPA model in vocational English education.

Abstract

Digital technology’s advances are not fully profitable for mankind, but have led to the phenomenon of destructive social change which has changed the mindset and behavior of mankind throughout the world in personal, national and state life. This requires a solution which is a common basic principle in interacting with each other in the digital era. This research looks at the historical role of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in responding to all social changes that have occurred in realizing peace in the world and reimplementing the spirit of the trilogy of brotherhood (ukhuwah islamiyyah, ukhuwah wathaniyyah, and ukhuwah basyariyyah/insaniyyah) initiated by KH. Ahmad Shiddiq in digital life. This research was conducted by using a literature study approach in gathering data and information, then analyzed and concluded. The results of the study show that there is NU's strong determination and commitment to maintain the world peace through its religious leaders, and the relevance of implementing the ukhuwah trilogy as a basis for thinking, acting and behaving in interactive relationships in the digital era to create world peace.
