Abstract

The objective of this study is to measure whether there is or not significant effect of teaching reading by utilizing Hot Potatoes software toward students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text. The variables used were the teaching treatment of Hot Potatoes Software as the independent variable and the students’ reading comprehension of Descriptive Text as dependent variable. Then, the research designed was Quasi-experimental design and the presentation of data used was quantitative. The data were obtained from the eleventh grade, of which 28 students were taken as sample. The students are divided into two groups; experiment group consisted of 12 students and control group consists of 16 students. To get the data, the pre-test and post-test were applied and then analyzed using t-test formula. The researcher had concluded that there is Significant effect of Hot Potatoes Software toward the students’ reading comprehension achievement. The result showed that mean of students’ post-test was increased. It is proved by the t-test (8.54) which is higher than t-table (2.05) at level of significance 5%. It means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and it proved that Hot Potatoes Software had significant effect toward students’ reading comprehension of Descriptive Text

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of self-reflective strategies in teaching reading at a vocational senior high school. Self-reflective strategies used in enhancing the students of vocational senior high school to reflect their comprehension on the given reading materials. This activity was considered effective in order to practice and drill the students? critical thinking. The strategies should be implemented repeatedly to make the students more skillfully creating their comprehension on the given reading materials by integrating the keywords extracted from the given reading materials. This study was implemented in experimental design at two classes of Institutional Finance Accounting department (Akuntansi Keuangan Lembaga/AKL) class Xth. The experimental class was class Xth AKL1 that it consisted of 35 students. The control class was class Xth AKL2 consisted of 34 students. Class Xth AKL1 was chosen as the experimental class based on the class? mean of the pretest that it was 2 points lower than class Xth AKL2. The () of the pretest score from class Xth AKL1 was 76. The of the post-test score from the experimental class was 86. The N-Gain score after having treatment from class Xth AKL1 was 70.7 in percentage. It can be assumed that this strategy was adequately effective to apply to the students on the reading subject reflecting their reading comprehension and therefore, the students could adjust the strategies to achieve their profound reading comprehension.

Abstract

AbstractLearning Vocabulary is an important and basic part of mastering language skill. The students are able to master language skills if he has good vocabulary. On the other hand, there is a big challenge for the English teacher in the remote area to make the students enthusiastic in learning English Vocabulary. Teacher needs to use something that is close to students’ life in teaching new vocabulary. Nowadays, mobile phone and games are something that cannot be separated from for students’ life. The teacher can use online mobile games like “Clash of Kings” as an alternative media to make students interested in learning English vocabulary. This research was conducted to know whether or not there is an influence of playing “Clash of King” online mobile game in teaching English vocabulary at the seventh grade of MTs. Al Fattah Banyuurip Ujungpangkah Gresik. The result of the research indicated that there is an influence of online mobile game “Clash of King” in teaching English vocabulary.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to help the English teachers easily to teach speaking in teaching English by describing picture. The activities are consists of reading, listening and talking. The researcher employed Research and Development method (RD) and adapted Borg and Galls’ model which consisted of five stages, namely 1) research and information collection, 2) planning, 3) develop preliminary form of product, 4) preliminary field of testing, and 5) main product revision. The researcher used three instruments to obtain the data such as interview, questionnaires and observation checklist. The obtained data will be classified based on the instrument used. The researcher shows the result by explaining them in quantitative and qualitative approach. The students needed supporting book in learning English that has attractive and colourful picture for students. The product is a describing picture book for elementary school entitled PICRIBE. The result of expert validation of the book is percentage of 4,0% and 4,5% is the result of expert validation ofthe materials. It means the bookis feasible as supporting media in learning speaking

Abstract

Teaching reading a second or foreign language receives a special focus. Some students of foreign language give the most important goal. They get the information through reading, as like newspaper, books, article, etc. good reading text also provide good writing models. So it needs strategies in order to get the best value in the process and the final output. Some strategies are proposed by the expert, but we should select where the appropriate to teach on the students. The aim of the study is to know what the best way to teach reading comprehension students as a second or foreign language is. It is important because nowadays, there are many book sources that use English as their language. This article will discuss (1) the strategies for reading comprehension, (2) the understanding of reading comprehension and teaching reading comprehension. The finding of the study show that the way of teaching reading comprehension is different; and it must adopt the strategy of reading comprehension of the students. Abstract

Praktik Pengalaman Lapangan (PPL) dirancang untuk mahasiswa semester akhirsebagaiwadah pelatihan para calon guru agar memiliki kecakapan keguruan secara lengkap dan terintegrasi. Program ini meliputi pelatihan praktek mengajar secara langsung dan latihan melaksanakan tugas serta layanan kependidikan lainnya. Pelaksanaannya dilakukan sesudah mahasiswa memperoleh bekal yang memadai dalam berbagai bidang yang berkaitan dengan tugasnya sebagai guru, berupa matakuliah yang menjadi prasyarat bagi mahasiswa untuk bisa mengikuti program ini. Fokus kajian ini adalah upaya mendeskripsikan Implementasi Praktik Pengalaman Lapangan (PPL) bagimahasiswa program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Islam Lamongan yang dilaksanakan oleh tujuh mahasiswa yang tergabung dalam kelompok mahasiswa di SMK Negeri 1 Lamongan tahunak ademik 2018-2019 dari keseluruhan tujuh unit SMA/SMK Mitra kerja dan sebanyak 51 mahasiswa. Data diperoleh melalui kegiatan observasi berperan serta, wawancara, dan dokumentasi selanjutnya di analisa dengan menerapkan proses pengumpulan, reduksi, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil pembahasan menunjukkan bahwa praktik pengalaman lapangan (PPL) mahasiswa di SMK Negeri 1 Lamongan sebagai upaya penguatan calon guru menjadi pendidik profesional dapat terlaksana dengan memuaskan, mulai dari tahap persiapan, pembekalan, pembuatan program kerja yang meliputi: perangkat pembelajaran, pelaksanaan praktik mengajar, keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam kegiatan ektra kurikuler, pembelajaran pada bidang layanan khusus dan penilaian yang dilakukan oleh guru pamong dan dosen pembimbing. Abstract

The research aims at developing vocabulary materials based on Word Bubble Games for the students of Elementary School students’. The main purpose of this study is to help the English teachers to create fun activities in teaching English by introducing traditional Word Bubble games to the students. To reach the purpose of the study, the researcher employed Research and Development method (R&D) and adapted ADDIE’ model. The researcher used three instruments to obtain the data such as interview, questionnaires and observation. The obtained data will be classified based on the instrument used. To show the results, the researcher explained them in quantitative and qualitative approach. The results show that most of fifth grade students of MI Fathul Huda give a good response toward the developed games. In addition, the experts gave an excellent judgment to the developed materials. After finishing all the stages, the researcher finally provided prototype product. The prototype product is a handbook for the teachers to teach vocabulary. The book entitled “Gladhi English” which comprises of six lessons and ten games which have been modified in order to be applicable in teaching vocabulary. Abstract

The objective of this study is using blended learning to develop vocational high school English writing material. It tries to develop writing material based on blended learning in vocational high school. This study is research and development (R&D) adapted by Sugiyono’s model. There are nine stages applied in the study. They are (1) need survey, (2) design product, (3) design validation, (4) design revision, (5) try out 1, (6) product revision, (7) try out 2, (8) final product revision, (9) production. The try out place at tenth grade of SMK Negeri 1Lamongan. The data gained through interviews, questionnaires and observations checklist. The interviews are for students need and teachers need. Questionnaires are to do the concept analysis, to submit the experts’ appraisal and to get the student’s responses. Furthermore, the observation checklist is used to conduct developing testing. The result of the study is (1) all of students enthusiastic in blended learning method for writing English learning. The third conclusion, the students of SMK Negeri 1 Lamongan gave positive response to all the activities in “Writing Blended Learning” book. They were appreciating and feeling helpful during in writing English class. The last conclusion is using the Writing Blended Learning handbook can help students improve their English writing skills and made the students more excited when learning English writing. Finally, the product of the study is the handbook entitled “Writing Blended Learning” which comprises 9 materials divided into two semesters

Abstract

Reading is a cognitive process of decoding symbols in order to construct or derive meaning (reading comprehension). The objective of this study is to know the application of Make a Match Techniqueto improve the students’ reading comprehension at the Eight grade students of MTs Al Fattah Banyuurip Ujungpangkah Gresik and to know whether Make a Match Technique is able to improve the students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text. The study was conducted at MTs Al Fattah Banyuurip Ujungpangkah Gresik. The subject of this study was 23 student. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. The research used pre-test, post-test and observation checklist.To know the students’ improvement in reading comprehension, the researcher uses instruments are test and observation checklist. From the result observation checklist it shows that teaching learning by using Make a Match technique can improve succesfully the students’ reading comprehension. The average of preliminary test is 56.82, the result of test cycle I is 73.21 and theb result of cycle II is 78.34.
