Abstract

In online learning environments, student motivation has emerged as a major challenge, as learners are required to be more independent and manage their own time effectively. Nevertheless, online education also presents positive aspects. Students who are familiar with digital technology and appreciate time flexibility often demonstrate higher levels of learning motivation. Digital platforms provide opportunities for teachers to design learning activities that are varied, interactive, and adaptive, which may enhance students’ interest and engagement in the learning process. This study aims to examine how distance learning influences students’ learning motivation by considering several key factors, including digital interaction, motivation, learning satisfaction, the use of online platforms, environmental support, and technical constraints encountered during the implementation of online learning. The research employed a literature review method with a descriptive-analytical approach to explore empirical findings related to the impact of distance learning on student motivation. This method was selected to collect, analyze, and synthesize data from ten academic journal articles published during the COVID-19 pandemic. The reviewed articles addressed themes such as online learning, learning motivation, teacher–student interaction, learning satisfaction, digital platform utilization, educational policies, and challenges in implementing distance learning at both school and higher education levels. Data were obtained through searches in academic databases and repositories, including Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and institutional journal portals. Overall, the findings indicate that online learning remains less effective due to various challenges, such as limited internet connectivity, inadequate learning devices, low student motivation, and minimal interaction between teachers and students. As a result, students’ learning satisfaction, academic achievement, and learning character tend to decline, suggesting that distance learning has not yet been able to fully replace face-to-face instruction.

Abstract

In today's digital era, the tendency of addiction to technology, social media, and certain substances is increasing, which has the potential to harm the well-being of students. This study aims to identify the level of addictive behavior tendencies in students at Medan city, focusing on two main factors: individual predisposition and specific areas of addiction. Through a descriptive quantitative approach, data were collected from 491 students using a questionnaire that measured addictive tendencies based on various variables, including learning patterns, emotional regulation, impulsivity, and addictive behaviors related to technology, drugs, gambling, and pornography. The results showed that Internet & Technology was the domain with the highest addiction tendencies (M = 17.44), followed by emotional regulation (M = 15.86). Although addiction to Cigarettes, Alcohol, and Drugs showed the lowest mean value (M = 9.53), the high kurtosis value indicates the presence of a group of students with very high addiction. On the other hand, psychological factors such as Impulsivity and low Executive Function contribute to impulsive decision-making that exacerbates addictive behavior. This study recommends the development of more holistic prevention and intervention programs, including enhanced guidance and counseling services and effective coping skills training, to help college students overcome addictive behaviors and improve their psychological well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the trends in the application of behavioral counseling techniques in addressing various behavioral and psychological problems, as well as to map the suitability between clients’ problem characteristics, the use of ABC behavioral analysis (Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence), and the selection of behavioral intervention techniques. This study is important because most previous studies have primarily focused on the application of a single behavioral technique to a specific type of problem, while comprehensive studies synthesizing multiple behavioral techniques within contemporary guidance and counseling practices remain limited. This study employed a literature review approach using content analysis methods on scientific articles and journals published within the last five years. The findings indicate that modeling, assertive training, relaxation, systematic desensitization, and behavior contract techniques demonstrate different patterns of application depending on the characteristics of the problems addressed. In addition, ABC analysis plays an important role in determining appropriate interventions by identifying the relationship between antecedents, behaviors, and consequences. The study reinforces the relevance of behavioral counseling as a systematic, measurable, and adaptive approach in contemporary guidance and counseling services.
