Abstract

Minor head injuries and sprains are two types of injuries that frequently occur in the home, especially among vulnerable age groups such as toddlers and the elderly. Lack of public knowledge regarding the initial treatment of these injuries can result in delayed medical intervention and increase the risk of complications. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to educate families on how to recognize, assess, and administer first aid for minor head injuries and sprains at home. The activity methods included interactive counseling, first aid simulations, discussions, and the distribution of educational media in the form of leaflets. The activity was conducted in Tamasaju Village, Takalar Regency, and involved 45 participants, consisting of parents of toddlers and family members caring for the elderly. Evaluation results showed an increase in participants' knowledge and skills in independently managing minor injuries. This activity is expected to increase family preparedness and reduce the risk of adverse effects from untreated injuries.

Abstract

Background: Posyandu (Integrated Health Post for the Elderly) is a preventive and promotive health service aimed at improving the quality of life of the elderly. However, attendance rates for the elderly are still relatively low. One factor influencing elderly compliance is social support from family, peers, and the surrounding environment. Objective: To determine the effect of social support on elderly compliance in participating in the Posyandu program. Methods: This study used a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 92 elderly people was selected using a purposive sampling technique in the working area of Community Health Center X. The instrument used was a social support and compliance questionnaire, which had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed using binary logistic regression. Results: The majority of respondents (71.7%) had high social support, and 65.2% of elderly people were classified as compliant in attending Posyandu. Statistical tests showed that social support significantly influenced elderly compliance (p = 0.001; OR = 3.45). Conclusion: Social support significantly influences elderly compliance in participating in Posyandu activities. Recommendation: Enhancing the role of families and cadres in providing emotional, informational, and practical support is crucial for increasing elderly participation.

Abstract

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death and morbidity worldwide, including in Indonesia. NCD risk factors such as smoking, unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, and excessive alcohol consumption are strongly influenced by individual behavior. Health promotion is an important strategy in efforts to control NCD risk factors by improving public knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. This study aims to determine the effect of health promotion on controlling NCD risk factors. The study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 150 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a health promotion questionnaire and a NCD risk factor questionnaire, then analyzed using the Chi-Square test and odds ratio analysis. The results showed that health promotion had a significant effect on controlling NCD risk factors (p < 0.05). It was concluded that intensive and sustainable health promotion plays an important role in controlling NCD risk factors.

Abstract

Introduction: Schizophrenia is a chronic mental disorder often associated with aggressive and violent behavior, which can negatively impact patient safety and quality of care. Non-pharmacological interventions such as progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) are increasingly used to manage behavioral symptoms. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of PMR therapy in reducing violent behavior among schizophrenia patients. Research Methodology: This study employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 29 schizophrenia patients with violent behavior selected using purposive sampling at a regional psychiatric hospital in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data were collected using an observation checklist. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to compare pre- and post-intervention scores. Results: The mean score of violent behavior significantly decreased from 7.86 (SD = 2.386) at pretest to 3.14 (SD = 1.156) at posttest. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference between pre- and post-intervention (p = 0.000; p < 0.05). These findings indicate that PMR therapy effectively reduces violent behavior in schizophrenia patients. Conclusion: Progressive muscle relaxation is an effective, safe, and practical non-pharmacological intervention to reduce violent behavior in schizophrenia patients. It can be integrated into psychiatric nursing care to improve emotional regulation and patient outcomes.
