Abstract

Learning outcomes are an indicator of educational quality; with technological advancements in the Computer Based Assessment (CBA)-based seafarer expertise test, it is hoped that CBA implementation can be carried out transparently. The objective of this study was to discover whether level IV training participants improved their readiness for the Barombong Maritime Polytechnic's Computer-Based Assessment (CBA), if done correctly and in accordance with what is tested by the Seafarer Expertise Examination Organizer. This study applied a survey method to describe the readiness of the examinees to take the computer-based assessment of seafarer skills exams. A total of 75 seafarer skills test participants were used in this study. In this study, the purposive sampling method was used. The study's findings indicated that the examinees were prepared to take the Seafarers Expertise Exam, as evidenced by a test score of 83.14% on the questionnaire for very good assessment, and that the organizers of the Seafarer Skills Exam were ready to conduct computer-based assessments without any obstacles. They must, however, continue to improve in order to achieve better results. The result of the study showed that: 1. Participants in the seafaring skill test have a high level of understanding (94.6%). 2. The respondent's business aspect is excellent (100%). 3. Aspects of respondents' ability in the very good category (100%). 4. The achievement value for the facility aspect is very high (98.7%).

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi penyebab kinerja injector yang kurang optimal pada mesin induk, pengaruh kinerja injector yang kurang optimal, dan upaya yang dilakukan untuk meningkatkan optimalisasi kinerja injector guna mendukung kinerja mesin induk. Dengan metode pengumpulan data yang meliputi observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan telaah pustaka, penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif dan menggunakan data primer maupun sekunder. Berdasarkan hasil temuan penulis, temperatur gas buang pada silinder kanan mesin induk 1, 2, dan 8 Kapal TB. MDM Banjar berada pada kondisi anomali. ditemukan saat kapal berlayar dari Loleba menuju Weda, Halmahera, pada tanggal 27 Juli 2023. Gas buang mesin induk pada silinder 1, 2, dan 8 memiliki temperatur yang tidak normal, yang oleh masinis dianggap sebagai anomali. Berdasarkan hasil temuan penelitian, terdapat penyumbatan pada lubang orifice injector bahan bakar, dan seiring berjalannya waktu, gesekan dengan bahan bakar bertekanan tinggi dan kotoran pada bahan bakar dapat menyebabkan lubang orifice membesar. Temuan ini memberikan wawasan tentang faktor-faktor yang berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan suhu gas buang di silinder 1, 2, dan 8 mesin utama.

Abstract

The sea is a vital ecosystem that supports human life and marine biodiversity. However, marine pollution caused by the discharge of oily waste from ships remains a significant environmental issue, despite the existence of national and international regulations. This study aims to examine the performance of the Oily Water Separator (OWS) on the vessel KMP Merak in preventing marine pollution. A qualitative research approach was employed through observation, interviews, and literature review. The findings indicate that several factors influence OWS performance, including clogged coalescer filters, sludge accumulation in the engine bilge, lack of spare parts, and the absence of a structured maintenance system. A decline in OWS performance can lead to marine pollution, ecosystem damage, and disruption of the marine food chain. Solutions include regular maintenance, proper machine monitoring, well-organized spare part management, and maintaining sufficient air pressure in the three-way valve system. This research highlights the importance of consistent and disciplined OWS maintenance as a commitment to preserving the marine environment. The study is expected to serve as a reference for increasing awareness among ship crews and related institutions in the proper operation and maintenance of OWS equipment.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the implementation of fire drills in preventing fires on board ships and analyze the obstacles experienced by crew members in using fire drill equipment during emergencies on the SPOB. Kaisar Ship. This study uses a qualitative approach carried out on the SPOB. Kaisar Ship by collecting data through observation, interviews and documentation during the period of October 2024 to October 2025 during sailing practice activities. The results of the study indicate that fire drills are carried out routinely in accordance with SOLAS and STCW provisions, starting from briefings, fire simulations, use of APAR, fire hoses, hydrants, and fire pump inspections. The training is carried out by following a muster list so that each crew member understands their roles and responsibilities. Fire drills have been proven to improve crew skills in hazard identification, extinguisher operation, evacuation route selection, and taking rapid action in the early stages of an incident. However, the study also found several obstacles, including a lack of familiarity with some crew members' equipment, mental conditions such as panic during fire simulations, and equipment that is not always optimal or located in difficult-to-reach locations. Environmental factors such as cramped spaces, smoke, and minimal lighting also increase the challenges in utilizing safety equipment. Ineffective coordination and communication also hindered the emergency response process. Overall, the fire drills had a positive impact on improving fire preparedness and prevention on the SPOB Kaisar, but increased training, equipment maintenance, and strengthened coordination were needed to ensure maximum effectiveness in responding to emergencies. A shipboard fire drill is a systematic, periodic exercise to train the crew in handling fire situations.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penerapan keselamatan kerja pada kamar mesin di kapal MV Lumoso Lancar serta mengidentifikasi kendala yang dihadapi dalam implementasinya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif melalui observasi langsung, wawancara dengan Chief Engineer, dan dokumentasi saat pelaksanaan praktek laut (PRALA). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sistem keselamatan kerja di kapal telah diterapkan sesuai prosedur internasional seperti ISM Code dan SOLAS, termasuk pelaksanaan toolbox meeting, izin kerja (hot work, cold work, dan enclosed space entry permit), risk  assessment,  dan  pelaporan  near  miss.  Meskipun  demikian,  ditemukan ketidakpatuhan sebagian kru dalam penggunaan alat pelindung diri (APD), yang menyebabkan terjadinya kecelakaan kerja. Faktor utama penyebab ketidakpatuhan ini adalah kurangnya disiplin, pengawasan langsung, dan kenyamanan kerja di ruang mesin. Untuk mengatasi hal ini, manajemen kapal telah melakukan evaluasi dengan mengadakan safety meeting luar biasa dan menerapkan sistem reward and punishment. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa sistem keselamatan kerja sudah berjalan baik secara sistemik, namun perlu penguatan budaya keselamatan melalui pendekatan  perilaku  dan  peningkatan  kesadaran  individu  terhadap  pentingnya keselamatan kerja
