Abstract

ABSTRACT This article aims to elaborate on the Islamic university idea of Syed M Naquib al Attas (l.1931). To clarify the concept of university, a discussion will also regarding the Institute For the Study of Islamic Thought and Civilization - International Islamic University Malaysia (ISTAC-IIUM) as a realization of his idea of an Islamic university. The writer uses descriptive analysis in understanding al-Attas' ideas; as used comparative analysis with other figures. The result of the research is that the Islamic university is based on concept of perfect man or universal man (insan kamil). This is what applies well in his institution i.e ISTAC-IIUM. When the Islamic university is based on the insan kamil concept, than the aim of the university is to product a perfect man or universal man (insan kamil). Abstract

This article tries to discuss the concept of de-westernization of Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas and its relevancy toward Islamization of knowledge. De-Westernization is an effort which necessity to do to win the challenge in the knowledge field that caused by Western civilization nowadays. In brief, de-westernization is an identification, separation, and isolation process from the elements of Western in the body of knowledge. This process stood as the first step to treat the dilemma which is resulted by skepticism and relativism with Islamization of knowledge. However, Islamization of knowledge should be doing after investing the Islamic worldview and Islamization of language. Also should be identifying the elements of westernization before doing the de-westernization. Naquib al-Attas stated that the language is a reflection of the worldview of someone or some civilization. Moreover, language is put into the category of Islam according to its vocabulary. It should relate to vocabulary in Islam. The concept of de-westernization as a first step before going to Islamization of knowledge begins by setting Islamic worldview before because it has a big impact on the way of think. Thus, the writer tries to declare the concept of Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas and its relevancy toward Islamization of knowledge.

Abstract

This article describes the confusion of the West phenomenon which is often declared by the glorious civilization according to modern society. But, Islam as a great religion is known to be a backward civilization and left behind from the West. A Turkish scholar named Muhammad Fethullah Gulen observed this phenomenon and tries to declare that the Islamic civilization is not backward. This type of research is library research, listing all literature and data related to Gulen’s perspective in the concept of Islamic civilization development. Researchers used descriptive-analysis methods to describe and analyze the concept of Islamic civilization according to Gulen and how to build it. The Researcher concludes that the pillars of Islamic civilization according to Muhammad Fethullah Gulen include four pillars, moral-spiritual, aesthetics, and love for the Creator.

Abstract

Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor is an Educational Institution that has contributed a lot in printing cadres of leaders of the people. This can happen because Pondok has many philosophies of life, one of which is called Panca Jiwa. It is one of the values of Pondok that’s fixed, and solid, which must certainly be applied by the entire family, for their lives to be peaceful, safe, and in line with what has been outlined by it. Covering the spirit of sincerity, the soul of simplicity, the soul of self-reliance, the soul of Ukhuwah Islāmiyah, and the soul of freedom, Panca Jiwa becomes the basis or principle of the running of life in Pondok. Besides, 5 grade students as managers of hostels are senior students who are mandated by Pondok to educate their members, so in their daily lives they are obliged to practice the values contained in Panca Jiwa, but the implementation of Panca Jiwa faces a bit of a problem, that some managers of hostels have not implemented it properly. Therefore, this article aims to examine the philosophies of Panca Jiwa and it’s extent reflection in the activities of managers of hostels of 5 grade students at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor by using philosophical approaches as well as descriptive-analytical methods. Beside some previous studies discuss each philosophy of each Soul, while this research discusses philosophy and its application in the daily life of managers of hostels from 5 grade students of PMDG. Eventually, it was found that some managers of hostels had well applied every soul of Panca Jiwa as well.

Abstract

Society 5.0, the basic plan of science in the development of science and technology, the results of the previous 4 phases of reform; (Hunting), (Agricultural), (Industrial), and (Information). Until the fourth phase, the speed of knowledge is fast, but the flow of information is inadequate, social reforms arise, packaged into creative innovations to solve problems in parallel, grand design; IoT (Internet of Things), AI (Artificial Intelligence), and Big Data. Innovations that ensure the disappearance of regional disparities provide a wide range of service products. However, the problem has penetrated, because of the partial point of view, even though it has multidimensional aims. Islam runs in place, an ecological crisis, spiritual crisis, even moral crisis. This research is aimed at re-awakening that the development of science has existed for a long time. Through Islamic scientists, has been proven factually with worldview. The method used in this research is a qualitative literature method, researching literature data that is in accordance with the theme, both from journals, books, and related articles. By focusing the object of research on Muslim communities who tend to live in a generation of digital development. And from this research, it can be said that if the worldview of Islam is applied consistently, the following implications will be realized; First, changing the world-centered view to God-centered. Second; changing the materialism system into an integral method of thinking. Third; knowledge sourced from revelation is strengthened by reason and intuition. Fourth; composed of basic elements, and from them determine change, development, and progress. Keywords: Islamic Worldview, Islamic Society, Society 5.0

Abstract

This paper describes the difference between the concept of human and the concept of normal-abnormal human behavior according to the views of modern psychology and Islam. And its suitability with the basic discussion of human nature. Conceptual discussion is of special interest by researchers because of its urgency in psychological studies. This is based on the phenomenon of society being confused in setting normal and abnormal standards. The researcher uses qualitative research, so the data used by the researcher is descriptive and narrative data, not numbers. The primary data sources used in this research are primary books related to modern psychology, especially in the specification of normal and abnormal studies, while books on psychology are generally a source of support for the results of the analysis in this study. The main focus of discussion in this article is the problem of the concept of normal and abnormal in modern psychological studies. This article explains that the standard of normal and abnormal in the study of modern psychology is strongly influenced by Western relativism. This is contrary to the concept of Islamic psychology which explains the study of normal and abnormal in detail and absolute. Tulisan ini menguraikan perbedaan konsep manusia dan konsep perilaku normal-abnormal manusia menurut pandangan psikologi modern dan Islam. Serta kesesuaiannya dengan pembahasan tentang landasan hakikat manusia. Pembahasan konseptual menjadi sebuah ketertarikan sendiri oleh peneliti dikarenakan urgensinya dalam kajian psikologi. Hal ini berdasarkan fenomena masyarakat akan kerancuan sosial dalam penetapan standar normal dan abnormal. Peneliti menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif, maka data-data yang digunakan peneliti adalah data-data dalam bentuk deskriptif dan narasi bukan angka. Sumber data primer yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah buku-buku primer terkait psikologi modern khususnya dalam spesifikasi kajian normal dan abnormal, sedangkan buku-buku kajian psikologi pada umumnya menjadi sumber penunjang hasil analisa dalam penelitian ini. Fokus pembahasan utama dalam artikel ini adalah problem konsep normal dan abnormal dalam kajian psikologi modern. Artikel ini menjelaskan bahwa standar normal dan abnormal dalam kajian psikologi modern banyak dipengaruhi oleh relativisme Barat. Hal ini bertentangan dengan konsep psikologi Islam yang menjelaskan kajian normal dan abnormal secara terperinci dan absolut.

Abstract

This article aims to compare the concept of rationality between Rene Descartes and Ibn Rushd. Namely Rene Descart who only uses reason or ratio, while Ibn Rushd who uses reason and revelation in reaching the ultimate truth. This article is a literature review where research data are taken from books and written sources that discuss the two figures. The method used in compiling this article is comparative descriptive with a philosophical approach. The results of this study conclude that the two concepts have something in common, namely the ratio or reason used to reach the truth. Even though they use the same ratio or reason, the main sources of knowledge between the two are very different. According to Rene Descartes, those who only use reason or reason will be able to reach the ultimate truth. Meanwhile, Ibn with his rationality based on revelation will reach the ultimate truth. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan konsep rasionalitas antara Rene Descartes dan Ibnu Rusyd. Yaitu Rene Descart yang hanya menggunakan akal atau rasio, sedangkan Ibnu Rusyd yang menggunakan akal dan wahyu dalam mencapai kebenaran yang hakiki. Artikel ini adalah kajian pustaka dimana data penelitian diambil dari buku-buku dan sumber-sumber yang tertulis yang membahas antara kedua tokoh tersebut. Metode yang digunakan dalam menyusun artikel ini adalah deskriptif komparatif dengan pendekatan filosofis. Hasil dari kajian ini menyimpulkan, bahwasannya kedua konsep tersebut memiliki kesamaan yaitu pada rasio atau nalar yang digunakan untuk mencapai kebenaran tersebut. Meskipun menggunakan rasio atau nalar yang sama namun sember utama ilmu pengetahuan antara keduanya sangat berbeda. Menurut Rene Descartes yang hanya menggunakan akal atau rasio akan dapat mencapai kebenaran yang hakiki. Sedangkan Ibnu dengan rasionalitasnya dengan berlandaskan wahyu akan mencapai kebenaran hakiki.

Abstract

The issue of modernity that is crucial today is the development of secularism in various fields. One of the main things to highlight is the popularity of secularism, which has a worldview that is contrary to Muslims. It was Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas who was the most vocal in voicing his criticism and proposing the solutions he offered in the form of the concept of Islamization of Present Day Knowledge. The research method used by the author is descriptive analysis in analyzing the views of Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas on Secularism. And the author uses the philosophical approach for this research. There are many confusions in Secularism thought, one of which is the opinion about the separation of Secularization and Secularism which in the end will also lead to Secularizationism. And the Islamization of contemporary Science is the most vocal form of Al-Attas' criticism of Secularism. Because with Islamization, the elements of secular Western culture, spirit, character, and personality contained in science can be cleaned.

Abstract

Society, which is a social structure, has its dynamics and can undergo significant changes. Society 5.0 is a new community concept promoted by Japan to be a solution to various social problems. Ismail Raji Al-Faruqi is one of the Muslim scholars who provide the concept of social order, one of which is the concept of the ummah. The purpose of this research is to find the relevance between Ummah and Society 5.0. The researcher uses a philosophical approach by using a qualitative research design or using a literature study by presenting a written presentation and the data that is analyzed and described. The results of this study are: the concept of ummah which is owned by Al-Faruqi and Society 5.0 is universalism which means that it is not particular and that all humans are the same, there are no differences in ethnicity, race, or nation. The concept of ummah Al-Faruqi and Society 5.0 has the concept of totalism which requires each individual to actualize divine values and will. The concept of ummah Al-Faruqi and Society 5.0 has the concept of independence where each individual has the freedom to will and will do what he does in realizing the values of life without any coercion. From these three concepts, the Islamic Society 5.0 concept was created which is characterized by a religious, intellectual, and observative society.
