Abstract

Background: A mental illness known as postpartum depression can develop following the delivery of a child. It is a primary focus in midwifery care since postpartum depression still occurs at a high rate in Indonesia, between 11% and 30%. The lack of social support from the mother's closest friends and family, the mother's continued discomfort after giving birth, the pain in her perineal wound, and her psychological unpreparedness for parenthood, according to several studies, are support factors that contribute to postpartum depression. The health of the mother, the baby, and the family are all negatively impacted by postpartum depression. Postpartum mothers who have postpartum depression will have a reduced capacity to care for children, less interest in their infants, and will not react well or favorably to infants. Mothers will also become sluggish. Objective: To determine the effect of massage therapy on the level of depression in postpartum women. Methods: This research is a Quasy Experiment with Pre-Posttest Design With nonequivalent Control Group with 58 postpartum mothers as respondents. Respondents were divided into the intervention group and the control group. The intervention group will be given massage therapy once a week for 4 weeks, while the control group will be given postnatal general care. Both groups were measured for post partum depression by pretest-posttest using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using a computer program. Results : The results of the statistical test showed that there was a significant difference in the decrease in the EPDS score in the two groups (p-value 0.000).Conclusions: This study shows that massage therapy is effective in reducing depression in postpartum women at the Mengwi I Health Center, Badung Regency.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnancy is the condition in which the level of mother’s hemoglobin is less than 12 gr/dL (Winkjosastro, 2002). According to WHO’s data, the maternal death in developing countries accounts for 40% related to anemia state in pregnancy. Most of the case is caused by iron deficiency and acute bleeding. Prevention of anemia can be done by giving the iron supplement tablets. However, by giving iron tablets alone, is not enough if pregnant women do not have any compliance about how to take it on. Maternal knowledge is known as the influence of that compliance. In order to increase their knowledge about anemia, providing the health education is a pivotal role. Health education in pregnancy care is an effort to influence other people, whether individuals, groups, or communities so that they do what is expected of education actors.

Abstract

Introduction: During the third-trimester pregnancy, 70% of pregnant women experience back pain and 64% sleep problems. Pharmacological approaches may increase prenatal abnormalities with adverse consequences for the fetus due to side effects. Therefore, non-pharmacological techniques are attracting lot of interest and attention from pregnant women to overcome these discomforts. Purpose: To determine effects of combining prenatal gentle yoga with lavender aromatherapy on lower back pain and sleep quality in third-trimester pregnant women. Methods: The design was Quasy-experimental of Pre-Posttest with Non-equivalent Control Groups. The study was conducted from February to August 2023 at Puskesmas Mengwi I, Badung Regency, Bali. 44 third-trimester pregnant women were selected by a simple random sampling technique and assigned to two groups: control and intervention. Results: Low back pain in the control group was higher than the intervention group (p-value 0.000). Sleep quality in the control group was lower than the intervention group (p-value 0.000). In the intervention group, there was a significant difference in low back pain before and after the study (p-value = 0.000), as well as in sleep quality before and after the study (p-value = 0.000). Conclusion: The combination yoga with lavender aromatherapy can improve the scale of lower back pain and better sleep quality for pregnant women in the third trimester.

Abstract

Labor pain is conventionally defined similarly to acute pain and exhibits a complex constellation of multiple physiological and psychological factors. Pressure, anxiety, fear, feelings of self-efficacy, coping skills, and social support are influential factors regarding a woman’s perception of pain and labor experiences. This pain varies greatly and often described as the most extreme pain that can be experienced or as agony or like torture that women may go through. Although epidural analgesia is generally accepted to be the gold standard method in intrapartum analgesia, there are risks associated with their use. Any less invasive but effective non-pharmacological approaches that can be used as an analgesic adjunct would be of great importance to the obstetric community. In recent years, clinical hypnosis and birth ball exercise have become an area of increasing clinical interest as methods to help the mother cope with the laboring process. They are frequently applicable, low-cost, and can be used as a supplementary treatment with other medications. Given widespread claims of efficacy, we aimed to review the available evidence regarding its effectiveness as an adjunct therapy for the management of labor and delivery pain. This is important as there is increasing interest among expectant parents and some health care providers about these methods for pain relief during the childbirth process. While many of some investigations show positive effects on the outcome studied, in fact, there are conflicting findings in others showing no statistically significant of its benefits.
