Abstract

Digital transformation has the potential to fundamentally change companies and create value. This study examines the impact of digital transformation and sustainability strategies on the earnings quality of Indonesian listed companies on three sectors: infrastructures, transportation and logistics, and consumer non-cyclicals. Using text mining techniques to measure intensity of digital transformation and sustainability strategies, we found that sustainability strategy shown in the company’s annual report reflects lower level of earnings management especially in accrual earnings management, while companies with digital transformation strategy, particularly in artificial intelligence technology, are less likely to engage real earnings management. Findings of this study provide insights into the effect of digital transformation and sustainability on the quality of accounting information and corporate governance, and offer implications for corporate digital transformation and government regulation.

Abstract

Post-COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the global economy, resulting in a surge of job losses and layoffs across various industries, including the technology sector. The pandemic has led to changes in consumer behavior, supply chain disruptions, and an overall decrease in demand, all of which have contributed to the current economic situation. With the rise of social media platforms, individuals have been using Twitter to express their thoughts and opinions on the impact of the pandemic on the technology industry, including the increase in job losses and layoffs. In this study, we analyze the characteristics of Twitter users and their text and hashtag usage in the context of the pandemic's impact on the technology industry. We employ topic modeling and k-means clustering to a preprocessed dataset of tweets related to tech layoffs to identify common themes or topics in Twitter users' responses to tech winter layoffs in Indonesia. The analysis revealed a high number of negative tweets expressing anger and sadness. The use of predetermined keywords did not provide a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon as other topics such as politics, religion, news, and advertisements were prevalent.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the sentiment of the Hindu community toward religious issues on social media, with a specific focus on Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan. The development of social media as a digital public sphere has positioned platforms such as Instagram and Twitter as primary spaces for the spontaneous and open expression of opinions, perceptions, and religious attitudes. This study is important because religious issues in digital spaces often influence social harmony and shape religious discourse within society. The research employs a quantitative approach using text mining and sentiment analysis based on Natural Language Processing (NLP). Primary data were collected through web scraping techniques, utilizing Apify for Instagram and asynchronous Python scripts for Twitter, with relevant keywords, hashtags, and geographic indicators. The analysis process includes text preprocessing (cleaning, tokenization, stopword removal, and stemming), followed by sentiment classification using a lexicon-based approach with the InSet dictionary into three categories: positive, negative, and neutral. The analysis results were evaluated using a confusion matrix, along with precision, recall, and F1-score metrics to assess model reliability. The findings indicate that positive sentiment predominates on both Instagram and Twitter, followed by neutral sentiment, while negative sentiment appears in only a small proportion. Positive sentiment is generally associated with expressions of prayer, gratitude, tolerance, and calls for togetherness, whereas negative sentiment tends to emerge in discussions related to ritual differences or responses to socio-religious controversies. The sentiment analysis model achieved an accuracy of 100% on Instagram data (self-evaluation) and 74.4% on Twitter data (manual evaluation), with relatively high precision and recall values, indicating that the results are statistically reliable.

Abstract

In the digital era, learning increasingly involves multimodal resources, yet explicit teaching of how images and texts contribute to meaning-making through digital storytelling remains underexplored. This study examines the integration of Systemic Functional Linguistics Genre-Based Pedagogy (SFL-GBA) into the teaching of multimodal narrative texts at a private senior high school. A case study was conducted with 28 tenth graders through a team-teaching approach involving an English teacher and a lecturer, with data collected from eight classroom observations. Findings reveal that SFL-GBA effectively supported multimodal learning: during the Building Knowledge of the Field (BKoF) and Modeling of the Text (MoT) stages, students analyzed Field, Tenor, and Mode across texts and images, while in the Joint and Independent Construction stages, they composed narrative texts and transformed them into digital storytelling projects. The study concludes that explicit scaffolding and culturally responsive teaching within SFL-GBA enhance students’ multimodal literacy and narrative competence through digital storytelling. These findings also have important pedagogical implications, indicating that SFL-GBA can guide teachers in designing multimodal instruction and inform future curriculum development for integrating digital storytelling.

Abstract

The rapid development of social media as a means of digital interaction also presents serious challenges in the form of the spread of negative content, including cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is a form of verbal violence committed online and has a significant impact on mental health, especially in adolescents. This research aims to develop a text classification model to detect the risk of cyberbullying using the Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm. The data used comes from a collection of cyberbullying-themed tweets. The research stages include text preprocessing (normalization, cleaning, tokenization, stopword removal, and stemming), feature extraction using Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF), data division into training and testing sets, and model training using linear kernel of SVM. The model was evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. The results show that this approach is able to identify risky comments quite accurately, with optimal performance on the linear kernel. This research contributes to the development of automated detection systems to create a safer and healthier digital ecosystem, and supports preventive efforts in mitigating cyberbullying online.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct an in-depth analysis comparing the legal mechanisms of constitutional amendment in Indonesia and South Africa. The research employs a normative juridical method with a comparative law approach. Primary data is sourced from the authoritative texts of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia (UUD 1945) and the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996. Data analysis is conducted qualitatively using content analysis techniques on provisions related to constitutional amendments in both supreme legal documents. The research findings reveal fundamental differences in the constitutional amendment paradigms of both countries. First, Indonesia adopts a rigid amendment system implemented by the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) with very strict quorum and approval requirements. Second, South Africa adopts a more flexible and differentiated system, where Parliament acts as the constituent authority, with varying approval levels depending on the substance of the amended provisions ranging from simple majority to two-thirds, and even involving the Provincial Council for certain matters. Third, despite different approaches, both countries affirm the principle of constitutional supremacy. These mechanistic differences reflect Indonesia's strategic choice to prioritize consensus and constitutional stability, while South Africa emphasizes constitutional adaptability and responsiveness to socio-political developments.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of a collaborative approach in teaching descriptive text writing to grade 10 students in one of the public schools ESTV-IT 28 Dili Timor Leste. The problem behind this study is the students' low ability to write descriptive text effectively, which is characterized by a lack of ideas, poor paragraph structure, and weak use of vocabulary. The collaborative approach is believed to address these problems. by providing space for students to discuss, give feedback, and build mutual understanding in the writing process. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and document analysis in the form of student writing results and learning tools. The results show that the implementation of collaborative approach can increase students' involvement in the learning process, strengthen critical thinking and cooperation skills, and produce more structured and expressive writing. Despite challenges such as unequal participation in groups and time constraints, teacher mentoring strategies and the use of peer feedback proved effective in supporting the collaborative process. This study makes an important contribution to the development of collaboration-based writing teaching strategies, especially in descriptive text learning. The results of this study are expected to be a reference for teachers in designing learning that is contextual, participatory, and in accordance with the needs of 21st century students.
