Abstract

Abstract

Otitis externa (OE) is an external microbial Meatus acousticus (MAE) infection due to damage to the normal MAE serumen skin coat that protects and maintains MAE moisture and temperature. Living in the warm and humid tropics, a decrease in skin pH due to activity in the water including swimming, and excess cerumen cleaning are predisposing factors for OE. The use of antibiotics locally concentrated in OE can not only attack pathogenic microbes but also have an impact on normal flora so that it has the potential to cause resistant microbes. Honey has anti-bacterial properties without the risk of resistance and has even been shown to modulate immunity and inflammation. Various invivo and invitro studies prove that honey has broad spectrum anti-bacterial activity. Honey is proven invitro to modulate immunity by affecting the release of various inflammatory cytokines. This shows that honey has the potential for OE therapy. This article aims to discuss the potential of honey as a topical OE therapy in the hope that it can be an alternative choice of therapy in the management of OE in humans that is safe, effective, and efficient.

Abstract

Acute heart failure (AHF) is a common and growing medical problem associated with major morbidity and mortality. Despite the high prevalence of this condition and its associated major morbidity and mortality, diagnosis can be difficult, and optimal treatment remains poorly defined. Identification of the acute triggers for the decompensation as well as characterization of cardiac filling pressures and output is central to management. Evaluation of patients with Heart Failure (HF) is critical for the appropriate selection and monitoring of therapy as well as for the prevention of recurrent hospitalizations.Diagnostic and management AHF is a challenge because of the heterogeneity of the patient population, the existence of a universal definition of understanding, not understanding the pathophysiology, and the lack of bases guideline Evidence-based medicine

Abstract

The skin is the outermost organ that is often exposed to the external environment, which can cause skin diseases, one of which is scabies. Scabies is caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei var hominis and its products. often found in densely populated environments, such as Islamic boarding schools and communities with poor personal hygiene quality or tend to be poor, and low economic status. For management, administration of drugs is generally topical to kill the mites that cause this disease. However, it has limitations, such as the relatively expensive price, so that alternative medicine materials with relatively cheaper costs are needed, namely medicines made from plants. The purpose of this study was to evaluate publications on the effectiveness of scabies treatment using natural ingredients. Methods: This study uses a literature study method in obtaining information or data from journals and research documents. The results of the literature study indicate that the use of traditional medicine is effective in the healing process of scabies. The use of traditional medicine is effective in curing scabies but as a complement to the use of topical drugs.

Abstract

Candidiasis is an infection caused by fungal Candida albicans. The incidence of candidiasis is pretty high in Indonesia. Candida albicans develop their pathogenicity by several ways so that it can invade and escape from the immune system. The host’s immune system must always be vigilant to recognized antigen through various receptors, activation of the transduction pathway and activation of various immune cells. But as organisms that struggle to survive, Candida also develops mechanisms to escape the immune response. There are so many articles have written the immune response against candidiasis, this review aims to understand more and updating information about the biological processes of pathogenicity of fungi and the mechanism of Candida albicans in escaping immune responses, the role of each innate molecule and immune cell, and clinical aspect to Candida albicans infections. We already facing the big challenges against therapy of fungal infection, so by understanding the escape mechanism of Candida albicans, it is possible to developed antifungal or Candida vaccine in the future, therefore the incidence of candidiasis can be suppressed.

Abstract

Prostate cancer is a noncutaneous malignancy in men, a heterogeneous disease with varying clinical outcomes. The modern clinical approach to prostate cancer emphasizes the need for treatment to avoid overdiagnosis and overtreatment. Advances in understanding of the pathogenesis of prostate cancer, coupled with technological innovations, have facilitated the development and validation of a number of molecular biomarkers, representing a variety of tested macromolecules from a wide variety of patient samples, to aid clinical management of prostate cancer, including early detection, diagnosis, prognostication, and selection. targeted therapy. Prostate cancer is asymptomatic in the early stages of the disease, there are various clinical-pathological signs and disease progression, and is characterized mostly by indolent cancer types. Therefore, it is imperative to develop individualized approaches for early detection, disease stratification (indolent vs. aggressive) and prediction of treatment response for prostate cancer. This article is a review article in which researchers review the current state of use of genomic biomarkers for early detection of prostate cancer, demonstrating the function of molecular biomarkers in clinical practice. The result of this review article is that the available genomic and proteomic tests can increase the predictive value of the PCa risk classification system based on clinical variables.

Abstract

Gastric ulcer is one of the increase gastric acid causes which mediated by H2 reseptor. Tumeric is extracted using the ethanol 96% and it is tested using Rattus norvegicus Wistar strain to know the effect as anti gastritis. There’s a suspicion whether an ethanol extraction from tumeric which has anti H2 receptor effect can be use to prevent gastric ulcer causes from histamine release. Based on that, we want to study whether tumeric can be use to prevent the increase of histamine induce gastric acid and can also be use as gastric protective by looking at microscopic  image of gastric, gastric pH from Rattus norvegicus Wistar strain. Methods: Male Wistar rats were divided Into five groups: 1) Na CMC control group, 2) CMC Na io histamine plus 300 mg / kg ip groups, 3) ethanol turmeric extract 1000 mg / kg io histamine plus 300 mg / kg ip treated groups, 4) ethanol turmeric extract 2000 mg / kg io histamine plus 300 mg / kg ip treated groups. Rats were sacrified at 6 h after injection of histamine, and stomach tissues were harvested for free acid, total acid, organic acid, pH.Results: Giving P2 ethanol extract of tumeric intra oral decrease free acid level, total acid, organic acid and pH gastric acid which is induced by giving an intra peritoneal histamin. Ethanol extract of tumeric decrease incidence and preventable for ulcus gastric causes by histamin. Conclusion: an ethanol extract of tumeric decrease the levels of free acid, total acid, organic acid and pH gastric. Ethanol tumeric extract 2000 mg/kg is a recommended dosage

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease is a disease in which kidney function decreases progressively irreversibly with various etiologies. Patients with chronic kidney disease are generally immunosuppressed and susceptible to infection. Some of the causes are abnormalities in polymorphonuclear leukocytes and lymphocytes. The results of several studies indicate that patients undergoing hemodialysis have low levels of water-soluble vitamins. A decrease in the number of leukocytes can also occur due to a decrease in neutrophils and lymphocytes which may be caused by deficiency of vitamins B6 and B12 due to hemodialysis. This study aims to measure the difference in levels of leukocytes and lymphocytes after parenteral vitamin B combination administration in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis This research is a quasi-experimental design, One Group Pretest Posttest, on 115 selected patients. Patients were given vitamin B1 ,B6 ,B12 parenterally every time doing hemodialysis, twice a week given for 1 month during hemodialysis. The data were taken in the form of leukocyte count, patient lymphocyte percentage, and absolute lymphocyte concentration. The intervention of vitamins B1, B6, B12 was given parenterally to the patient. After collect the data, the leukocyte counts, lymphocyte percentage and absolute lymphocyte concentration before and after the intervention were seen, then it was seen how the effect of parenteral administration of vitamins B1 ,B6 ,B12 on the leukocyte count, lymphocyte percentage and absolute lymphocyte concentration in patients undergoing hemodialysis. From the results of the study, there were 115 patients consisted of 72 men (62.6%) and 43 women (37.4%). There was a difference and effect of giving combination vitamin B in the form of a significant change in the mean number of leukocytes at visits 1-2 with p-value = 0.033. There was a change in the mean of lymphocyte percentage and absolute lymphocyte concentration after administering vitamins B1, B6 ,B12 , but the changes were not significant.
