Abstract

Introduction: Adolescent reproductive health education aims to increase knowledge and attitudes about reproductive health. Therefore, an easy, inexpensive, and standardized method of education is needed in the delivery of reproductive health material to young adolescents, one of them is audiovisual media animationMethod: The research was conducted using a pre-experimental research design pretest-posttest one group design within 31 days. This study used a total sample of 180 subjects, furthermore, the data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM).Result: Education with reproductive health animated videos increased knowledge about reproductive health immediately after education was given (P = 0.002), but after 31 days, it did not affect (P = 0.171). Education with animated videos did not affect the subjects’ attitude immediately after education was carried out (P = 0.802) but had an effect after 31 days from the start of education (P = 0.031). After analyzing the correlation including other confounding variables (R square), it was found that the effect of education with animated videos towards the increasing knowledge of reproductive health was 14.9%, and 8.4% towards changes in subject attitudes.Discussion: Health education with video animation increases knowledge, but the phenomenon of attitudes such as dating still occurs even the subjects’ knowledge have increased. Conclusion: Reproductive health education using animated videos increases knowledge but does not change attitudes in reproductive health

Abstract

Chronic renal disease is a disorder of renal function or structure that lasts for more than three months, accompanied by a decrease in glomerular filtration rate. Decreasing of renal function monitoring is performed by measuring glomerular filtration rate, determining blood urea, creatinine, creatinine clearance, electrolytes, uric acid, blood gas analysis and tubular function. The Recent method for measuring glomerular filtration rate using inulin clearance, however, is not efficient. Further measurements of creatinine glomerular filtration rate were developed. Measurements of urea, creatinine and uric acid are currently using enzymatic methods of spectrophotometry, while electrolyte examination by selective ion electrode method. Blood gas analysis determined pH, PCO2, PO2, HCO3-, CO2 total, base excess and SO2. Examination of urine protein and urine sediments helps establish a diagnosis of chronic kidney disease

Abstract

Halitosis is a term that describes an unpleasant odor from the breath. The unpleasant odor is caused by the decaying activity of gram-negative microorganisms. The causes of halitosis are usually due to poor oral hygiene, deep caries, periodontal disease, oral infection, dry mouth, smoking, mucosal ulceration, pericoronitis, food residue in the mouth, and tongue coating. The essential oil in basil leaves is widely reported to have antibacterial activity, both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and molds. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of basil leaves (Ocimum sanctum L.) in reducing halitosis associated with DMF-T index and OHI-S. This quantitative research design is a quasi-experimental, which is giving treatment to the sample group. The number of samples is 30 people. The technique used in this research is quota sampling method. The tool used to determine the halitosis score is a halimeter. The data obtained in the form of halitosis scores before and after using basil leaves were tested using the Wilcoxon non-parametric test. After that, to find out the relationship between DMF-T and OHI-S indexes, it was tested using a correlation test. Data analysis using Wilcoxon, it showed that basil leaves were effective in reducing halitosis scores, because the value of sig.(2-tailed) α<0.05. With the correlation test, the results obtained p <0.01, then there is a significant relationship between halitosis and DMF-T. And there is a significant relationship between halitosis and OHI-S because the p value < 0.01. The results of the study was shown that basil was effective in reducing halitosis. There is a relationship between halitosis with DMF-T and OHI-S indices.

Abstract

Alloxan causes the formation of reactive oxygen through the reduction process of alloxan (dialuric acid) in the β cells of pancreas. Free radicals cause damage  and decrease catalase enzyme activity. Black cumin seeds extract which contain carotenoids, thymoquinone, carvacrol, 4-terpineol, t-anethole, and tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) has antioxidant activity that is expected to inhibit reactive oxygen species (ROS) that is expected to increase pancreatic catalase activity. This study used 24 male Wistar rats, divided into 3 groups:1)group of rats fed with standard food, 2)group of rats induced by alloxan 125mg/kg /BB intraperitoneally on day 1, 3)groups of rats induced by alloxan 125mg/kg/BB intraperitoneally on day 1 and were given by black cumin seed extract 2500mg/kg/BB orally on day 4 until 17. On the 18th day of all rats were sacrificed and pancreatic tissue catalase activity were measured by the spectrophotometric method. The results of One-Way ANOVA showed significant difference (p=0.003) pancreatic tissue catalase activity of groups of rats fed with standard food (1696,96U/g±414,10U/g) compared with group of rats induced by alloxan (1287,58U/g±88,45U/g). There was significant difference (p=0.001) of pancreatic tissue catalase activity of groups of rats induced by alloxan (1287,58U/g±88,45U/g) with a group of rats induced by alloxan and given with black cumin seed extract (1764,83U/g±199,69U/g). The conclusion of this study showed that the administration of alloxan significantly decreased pancreatic tissue catalase activity of rat and black cumin seed extract significantly increased catalase activity because cumin extract has antioxidant effects.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the major worldwide threat and global burden in Indonesia. CNS tuberculosis is the most severe form of TB infection. CT evaluation on diagnosing tuberculosis meningitis (TBM) with triad of hydrocephalus, basal meningeal enhancement and infarction was reported to be sensitive. PCR cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is known to be specific, however negative results have been reported due to presence of PCR’s inhibitors, poor lysis of mycobacteria, and the uneven distribution in specimens. CT Scan plays the vital role in diagnosing TBM patient with the presence of TBM CT triad, especially basal cistern enhancement (BME) which is the specific enhancement pattern in MTB patient. There are 9 must know BME pattern, such as contrast filling the cistern, double and triple line, linear enhancement at MCA cistern, Y sign, posterior infundibular recess enhancement, ill defined border, join the dots sign, nodular enhancement, and asymmetry off all pattern. Familiarizing BME criteria is essential to provide confident diagnosis and reduce morbidity and mortality
