Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the world. The diseaseis influenced by several factors such as lack of physical activity, imbalanced nutritional intake, and high blood cholesterol levels. The value of the total cholesterol / HDL can predict cardiovascular disease risk factors. The study aims to investigate the relationship between physical activity and Dietary Allowances of the macronutrient and ratio total cholesterol / HDL in rural communities. This is observational analytic with cross-sectional design of the 102 respondents (male: 40, female: 62) in Kepuharjo village, Cangkringan, Sleman, Yogyakarta, with a purposive sampling techniques. Physical activity data were taken using a structured interview (Baecke) and Semi Quantitive Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQFFQ) for data macronutrient, while blood total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol levels were analyzed using enzymatic methods. The results of the study showed that there is no significant relationship between physical activity and the ratio of total cholesterol / HDL (p = 0.038; CI 95%: 0.98-61.33), dietary allowances of the macronutrient energy and the ratio of total cholesterol / HDL (p = 0.068), protein intake on the ratio of total cholesterol / HDL (p = 1.000), fat intake to the ratio of total cholesterol / HDL (p = 0.081), and the intake of carbohydrates to the ratio of total cholesterol / HDL (p = 0.088). In conclusion there is no significant relationship between physical activity and dietary allowance of macronutrient towards to the ratio of total cholesterol / HDL.

Abstract

Abstract: Antibacterial is a substance that can interfere with the growth and metabolism of bacteria, sothat these substances can inhibit growth or even kill bacteria. This research aimed to utilize naturalmaterials as a natural antibacterial. This study investigated the ability of isolates catechins of tea leaves toinhibit Staphylococcus aureus and spectral identification of these catechins. Catechin compounds wasextracted by water, and then fractionated with CHCl3 and ethyl acetate. Ethyl acetate phase wasconcentrated fractionation results using a rotary evaporator for further separation using thin layerchromatography with various mobile. The results of the study showed that the concentration of isolates ofdemonstrated to be effective as antibacterial, with MIC 12.5%. UV spectrum measurement showed that theisolates had a maximum absorption at a wavelength of 279 nm while the FTIR spectrophotometer showedthat isolates catechin-containing functional groups C = C aromatic absorption 1500-1600 nm^-1 and OHgroups, a broad band between 2000 and 3600 nm^-1.Key words: isolates catechins, Staphylococcus aureus, tea leaves, antibacterial

Abstract

Previous research showed that self-medication practice with antibiotics is widespread in developing countries and tertiary students are among these consumers. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of the use of antibiotics without prescription among non-health science students in Jember and to identify the sources of non-prescription antibiotics. This cross-sectional survey was conducted between April and June 2016 in all non-health science faculties of Universitas Jember. A questionnaire containing four main short questions about antibiotics use and questions related to socio-demographic information was distributed to students who gave consent. A number of 130 (58.5%) respondents admitted to ever acquire antibiotics without the presence of a physician prescription. Self-medication with antibiotics tended to be done by students from rural areas (p=0.04) and without health insurance (p=0.04). The sources of non-prescription antibiotics vary, but pharmacy was the most frequently cited to be the source (n=82; 46.3%). This study showed that the use of antibiotics without prescription among non-health science students and the sale of antibiotics without prescription among pharmacies in Jember are prevalent. Real responses from the government, relevant health professional associations, and education institutions to intervene these problems are significantly needed.
