Abstract

In the landscape of modern theology, John D. Zizioulas is noted for his contribution in retrieving the works of the Cappadocian Fathers in the areas of Trinitarian theology and ontology of personhood. Disenchanted by the predominance of Augustinian Substantialism, which he claims to place too much emphasis on the unity of God, Zizioulas turns to the ideas of the Cappadocian Fathers in order to offer a Personalist approach in Trinitarian theology. Such an approach, in turn, leads to the development of a particular ontology of personhood, in which Person is understood both as hypostasis and ekstasis. This article appropriates Zizioulas conception of person to provide an ontological justification for the idea of democracy. Zizioulas conception of Person as hypostasis can form the ontological ground for the notion of equality, whereas his idea of Person as ekstasis offers the ground for the cultivation of a democratic political culture, in which communion with the Poor and Suffering Other is not simply a theological possibility, but a civic duty.

Abstract

Abstract

In Indonesia, the last twenty years many cases had happened that caused disharmony. Some radical groups attacked different communities due to their different point of view. According to PPIMs research, not few teachers in Java have taught intolerance to their students. In this context, using a descriptive research with both qualitative and quantitative approaches (observation, questionnaire, and interview), the writer undertook a scientific research in some main Catholics schools in Jakarta e.g. Strada, Van Lith I Elementary School, Tarakanita V Elementary School, Melania II Elementary School and Budi Mulia Elementary School which have been trying to teach tolerance and pluralism to students. These Catholic schools had made a serious effort to incorporate the subject of tolerance and pluralism into their curriculum especially based on the thought of Jean Piaget, Lawrence Kohlberg, James W. Fowler as well as Gravissimum Educationis. From the result of this research, the writer is convinced of their contribution to peaceful coexistence in the country. Learning from them, the writer proposes again the importance of interreligious education in our pluralistic society.

Abstract

Abstract

The Church has received the mission of Christ to carry out the works of Christ in the world. She continues the task of proclamation (kerygma), and celebrates the mystery of His presence (leitourgia) through the Word and the Liturgy, fellowship (koinonia) and service (diakonia) to others with the guidance of the Holy Spirit as a witness (martyria) to the world. From these elements, it is diakonia that can connect more closely to the act of Jesus who went around doing good (Acts 10:38). In this service, the Church gives more attention to the weak and poor people (trans. Kecil, Lemah, Miskin, Tersingkir, Difabel, abbr. KLMTD) to develop their life better. There are two forms of diakonia, namelydiakonia of charity (victim care; providing aids to the people in needs) and diakonia of empowerment (victim cause; helping people through empowerment). Thus, a movement such as Credit Union (CU) is one form of diakonia. This thesis was conducted to know how effective the Credit Union Abdi Rahayu realizediakonia of Marganingsih Parish, Kalasan, Yogyakarta. Subject of research is the service of CU Abdi Rahayu which is measured in several items, namely: financial education, saving reasons, the form of savings, easiness of borrowing, borrowing purposes, discipline of compulsory savings, assistance in using money and bad credit loans. The result of this research shows that the Credit Union Abdi Rahayu is able to realize some elements of Diakonia of Marganingsih Parish, Kalasan. This research also points act of solidarity among members as a tangible manifestation of love of neighbor.

Abstract

This article talks about doing catechesis in ecclesia domestica - Grounded Theorys perspective. Learning the form (Gestalt) of silence in Eastern tradition in terms of Hebraic tradition in the Sacred Scripture, we find out that human-divine interaction in the first Hebrew alphabet of aleph is a simple, relevant and attractive model. Parents can use it in doing catechesis with their kids under five years old. Translanguaging proses in this period requires parents to learn something from their kids. Parents became students of their kids. In this very young age, their kids are the live and the holy text (data). Catechesis Model of Aleph, as we prefer to say it, will be bring the kids to parents, and by doing this the kids will bring the parents to the kids own-selves as well. This catechesis model is a learning model, not a teaching one. Through hearing vision besides seeing voice, the parents as well as the kids will be sensitive enough to distinguish I from me the basic interaction form in every person. However, human-divine interaction represented by aleph is spiritual. In human life experience, is the aleph discovered or invented? Aleph is just an alphabet, but what it points to is really unsayable. As a human-divine interaction, by the way, aleph is the basic model of doing catechesis. This model can inform, perform, and even transform human soul. Parents as well as kids can enter into this human-divine interaction to experience and understand human languaging. The form (Gestalt) is there. It enters, it changes, and it transcendends human life. Hearing vision (mendengar bentuk dalam ruang penglihatan) is a dramatic praxis in daily life.

Abstract

In social reality, domestic violence is a sadden event that continously happend to women. In gender analysis, gender injustice and patriarchal culture are regarded as the main causal factors of violence against women. From the point of view of women (victims of violence), the Holy Bible is often used to legitimate gender injustice and discrimination against women. For the faithful, this matter has risen a theological dilemma. In one side, this opinion is based on the experiences of the victims. But in another side, the Holy Bible is believed as the Word of God that reveals the Gods will to save human beings (men and women). Therefore, in the context of domestic violence, moral thinking based on gender on christian marriage is really needed.

Abstract

Abstract

By the end of twentieth century, leadership crisis occured in various sectors of life and institutions. In this situation, Christian Leadership associated identically with the leadership model of Jesus Christ is offered to the society. Anthony DSouza formulated the Leadership of Jesus with 3-S formula, namely: Servant, Steward, and Shepherd. The true leadership basically conceived three traits, namely: ennoble, ennable, and empower. This research aims to explore the leadership of Mgr. Ignatius Suharyo in the Archdiocese of Semarang during 1997-2009. He led people of God in the Archdiocese of Semarang during the transition period from the XX century to XXI century. In the transition, two main challenges emerged in the life of society and church, namely: massive stream of globalization and danger of nations disintegration. Mgr. Suharyo wrote 27 letters of shepherd to provide guidance for the people of God. Through these letters, Mgr. Suharyo proposed the idea of Gereja Sebagai Peristiwa (Church as a Happening). This idea reflected his vision of leadership and his ecclesiological perspective to determine the Churchs face. Referring to Anthony DSouzas view of leadership, this research found that Mgr. Suharyo experienced himselfas a leader serving humbly, a steward bearing historical responsibility, and a shepherd having discipline yet gentle nature (fortiter sed suaviter). He also committed his leadership through some ways, namely: giving meaning and inspiring through key words, shifting mindset intelligently, and developing communal sharing (duduk bersama) culture. This leadership model was reflected in his motto: Serviens Domino Cum Omni Humilitate (Acts 20:19). This motto was then realized in his work as the Archbishop of Semarang through words and actions.
