Published by Universitas Tidar
Transformatika: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, dan Pengajarannya is an e-journal published by Universitas Tidar. The research article submitted to this online journal will be peer-reviewed at least 2 (two) reviewers. Every article that goes to the editorial staff will be selected through initial review processes by Editorial Board. Then, the articles will be sent to peer reviewer (Mitra Bestari) and will go to the next selection by the double-blind review process. After that, the articles will be returned to the authors to revise. These processes take a month for a maximum time. In each manuscript, peer reviewer will be rated from the substantial and technical aspects. Final decision of articles acceptance will be made by editors according to reviewers comments. Peer reviewer that collaboration with Transformatika: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, dan Pengajarannya is the experts in the linguistics, literature, and their teaching area and issues around it. They were experienced in the prestigious journal management and publication that was spread around the nation and abroad.

Abstract

This paper focuses on analyzing a novel entitled “A Visit from the Goon Squad” using sociological approach. The purpose is to reveal the connection between the content of the novel with the social background and history when it was written and also with the social background and biography of the author. The connection is to reveal the improvement of a literary movement in America at the time. The result shows that the author uses an experimental combination in writing the novel which is much more influenced by the use of computer. Many contents of the novel are in form of table, graphic, and some other types of presentation which are not considered as part of literary work form. This kind of style applied is largely considered as a hibridity in literature and is under the avant garde movement.Key words: Jennifer Egan, sociologcal approach, hibridity, avant garde movement in America.

Abstract

Untuk membuat siswa mempunyai pemikiran kritis dibutuhkan sebuah strategi yang dapat membuat siswa mampu mensintesis pengetahuan dan keterampilan di dalam konteks pengajaran bahasa Inggris. Artikel ini mendiskusikan implementasi pendekatan berbasis genre sebagai sebuah alternatif model pengajaran bahasa Inggris di level sekolah menengah atas. Beberapa isu yang menjadi pokok permasalahan di sini adalah konsep mengenai pemikiran kritis, pendekatan berbasis genre, dan implementasi pendekatan berbasis genre yang mempromosikan pemikiran kritis siswa di dalam kelas bahasa Inggris. Dengan menekankan pada paragraf argumentasi seperti eksposisi dan diskusi, guru sebaiknya mendorong pemikiran kritis siswa baik dalam bahasa tulis maupun lisan. Artikel ini juga memuat sebuah model pengajaran yang mengimplementasi pendekatan berbasis genre yang mengaktifkan pemikiran kritis di dalam kelas bahasa Inggris. Keywords: Genre Based Approach, Critical Thinking, argumentative texts, English Language Teaching

Abstract

Karya sastra tidak dapat dipahami dan diteliti terlepas dari dunia pembaca karena karya sastra merupakan salah satu wujud realisasi diri seorang pembaca yang memberikan konkretisasi terhadap ruang-ruang kosong yang terdapat dalam karya sastra itu sendiri. Konkretisasi terhadap karya sastra tersebut dapat diejawantahkan melalui tanggapan, baik aktif maupun pasif oleh pembaca karya sastra. Tanggapan pembaca menjadi suatu hal pokok dalam kajian resepsi sastra sebagai paradigma pendekatan ekstrinsik dalam sastra yang menekankan pada hubungan antara karya sastra dengan pembaca. Resepsi Hermawan Aksan sebagai pembaca  ̶ yang dalam hal ini juga berperan sebagai seorang penulis− terhadap cerita perang bubat  ̶ yang dalam hal ini terdapat dalam novel Niskala ̶  dapat dikaji dengan menggunakan toeri resepsi sastra. Resepsi terhadap cerita perang bubat tersebut dapat ditafsirkan berbeda, tergantung dari posisi dan tendensi seorang pembaca yang sekaligus menjadi seorang penulis dalam memberikan penafsiran terhadap suatu permasalan.Kata kunci: Resepsi, Perang Bubat, Novel Niskala.

Abstract

This research has a purpose to describe the use of jargon contained on WhatsApp chat community. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative. The results show that the use of jargon by WhatsApp chat community among students of Applied Linguistics S2 class A of Yogyakarta State University in the academic year of 2013/2014 includes the use of language, form, and function jargon. Overall jargon found in this research were 54 jargons, which consists of 17 jargon in Indonesian, 20 jargon in English, 4 jargon in a foreign language, and 13 jargon in abbreviated form. The findings of this jargon, at least can make a new vocabulary and given its own color in the development of language variation.Kata kunci: jargon, chatting, whatsapp

Abstract

When talking about teaching and learning, assesment is also discussed to know how far the process achieves its goals. What kind of assesment teachers use will depend on the material they transfer to their students. There are several kinds of assesment. Since the paradigm in education is shifted, the way teachers asses their students’ performance is also shifted as well. Therefore nowadays authentic assesment is broadly introduced, learned, and applied in most teaching learning process.Since the paradigm in education has shifted, the way teachers assess the students’ writing is shifted as well following the new paradigm beyond constructivism. More and more rubrics are set to exactly show the real condition and processes of the writing itself.Authentic assessment in writing plays a very important role in its teaching since the impact will be huge to the students. Abstract

This research aims to (1) describes some processes of euphemism formation and (2)  explains some factors behind those formations. It uses descriptive qualitative method with observing and note taking as techniques for data collecting. There are five findings in this research: (1) euphemism formation occurs by two processes, namely (a) by using english vocabularies and (b) by replacing the existing term with another one from Indonesia vocabularie; (2) there are influences from diglosic condition in Indonesia to euphemism formation by using english vocabularies; (3) one of euphemism formation have been done to hide the real essence of job by using some specific diction on the job term; (4) the component of meaning from diction elected with positive connotation become basis for replacement of the term; (5) the job location be a another  influence of euphemism formation.Keyword: euphemism, occasion, language, linguistic etiquette

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan dan mendeskripsikan analisa kesalahan dalam experiential meaning pada teks tulisan recount  mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan analisis kesalahan dan analisis experiential meaning dalam ranah systemic functional linguistics. Data penelitian diambil dari 20 teks tulisan recount mahasiswa di kelas Writing 4 di Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Unissula. Unit analisa dalam penelitian ini adalah klausa. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa omission, addition, misinformation, dan  misordering ditemukan dalam analisa kesalahan dalam teks tulisan recount  mahasiswa. Tingkat kesalahan tertinggi adalah misinformation yang mencapai 64,9 % atau 417 kesalahan tata bahasa. Elemen process dari experiential meaning  merupakan elemen yang memiliki tingkat kesalahan tertinggi pada aspek kesalahan misinformation yang mencapai 40,5 % atau 260 kesalahan tata bahasa. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah kesalahan tata bahasa yang dominan ditemukan adalah misinformation dalam elemen processes dari experiential meaning. Berdasarkan hasil dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa mahasiswa di program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris masih memiliki masalah dalam menulis recount, oleh karena itu mahasiswa harus menguasai tata kebahasaan dalam menulis recount.  Keywords: error analysis, experiential meaning, writing, recount

Abstract

This research aims to know the speech function and politeness strategy used by speaker and interlocutor in dialogue which contains the complaint in twitter. It is descriptive qualitative research applied non-participant method. The source of data was the tweet dialogue about customer complaints or complaints between consumers and @indosat as producer in @indosat account. Purposive sampling technique was used to choose the data which represent the existence population. The analysis found that there are two functions of speaker’s utterance: complaining and responding. The politeness strategies used by speaker in complaining are bald on record, positive politeness, negative politeness, and off record. The politeness strategies used by speaker in responding are bald on record, positive politeness and negative politeness. Meanwhile, the function of utterance said by the interlocutor is giving response to the complaint by using positive and negative politeness strategy. It is hoped that the result of this research can be used as the reference for consumer and producer who interact in social media so that their resulting utterances do not emerge the conflict of both sides. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of peer review technique in increasing students’ writing motivation and to determine the effectiveness of using peer review technique to improve students’ writing skills of anecdote text class X MIPA 1. The study is done in SMAN 2 Magelang from March – April 2014. The subjects are 31 students of X MIPA 1 class, with quantitative data, the result of anecdote writing activity and qualitative data in the form of quesionare, observation result, as well as teaching document.The quantitative data collection is in the form of test and qualitative data collection is in the form of non-test. The writer uses two techniques: quantitative data with descriptive analysis; qualitative data with triangulation method. The are two cycles in this study, with four actions (planning, actuating, observing, and reflecting) in each. The study shows that: (1) Peer review technique can increase students’ motivation from “fair” level (2.23) to “good” level (2.97); (2) Peer review technique can increase the students ability in writing anecdote text from “poor” level (56.77) to “good” level (84.84). It is clear that by applying peer review technique, the students’ motivation and writing skill is increased. It is invited for language teachers to use varied teaching techniques, besides that, teachers should keep trying to eliminate peer review technique weakness for the sake of effective, efficient, and enjoyable teaching learning process. Keyword: peer review, writing anecdote text, writing motivation.
