Abstract

Using the TPM is a process of meaning creation; the viewer will select cultural content from (one of the) three paradigms, tradition, modernity, and nature, and, thereafter, combine the selected cultural content into a sequence. Via the selections and combinations of the viewer (completed by the algorithm of the TPM) a message comes into being; the message is the map and the list. The map is an iconic sign, a diagram, with more semiotic functions; hence, the map not only represents different locations – rather, the map, furthermore, represents cultural content, and, thereby, we can understand the map as showing the viewer a (possible) path within that part of the “Japanese encyclopedia”, which concerns tradition, modernity, and nature. The TPM, furthermore, potentially, relates to the travel notes made by the European tourists which have been to Japan; hence, the travel notes have the status of (potential) interpretants mediating between the viewer and the cultural content by communicating, emotively and referentially, for example, the emotions, attuites, and evaluations of the European tourists concerning the cultural content as well as referring to objective, factual circumstances. The travel notes, therefore, become a supplement to the meaning of the 360-degree VR movie and TPM. In the above we have, more than once, mentioned the Zeitgeist of the 4.0 industrial era; and the VJEW seems to be “something appropriate to the spirits of time” involving simulation and “smart digital planning” in order to convey cultural content and to brand a nation; perhaps, thereby, also, making that nation stronger.

Abstract

Indonesian society in general is bilingual. They mastered the first language (B1) of the local language and discussed the second (B2) Indonesian language. There is a small part of the multilingual community, besides mastering BD and BI, also mastering foreign languages. Nevertheless, the mastery process of each language varies according to the development of Indonesian society. Regarding language and culture, the famous adage that has become truism is "language exists and grows in a cultural environment, and cultural values are expressed in a typical manner in the local language" symptoms associated with the occurrence of bilingual societies in Indonesia specifically or in the world at generally, the other one is through language contact. language contact is the influence of one language on another language either directly or indirectly. due to the occurrence of language contact for users of the language is often interferent or transfer arises. A form of language relativity and cultural relativity is a form of sporadic cultural values often revealed at the lexical level. If the relativity of language and cultural relativity are brought into the realm of second language teaching or foreign languages, there will probably be misunderstandings in communication and in the learning process.

Abstract

This research is based on the urgent need to safeguard the continuation of local cultureswhen faced to any foreign culture’s existence which can easily turn invasive in the midst of 4.0 industrial era and modernization. The balian songs have their own roles and functions that can be recorded as digital-archieve as one of concrete ways to safeguard local cultures in this 4.0 industrial era. The balian welcoming song is sung as both the expression of joy and honor to all the guests attending and walking down the aisle to the bridegrooms. Its common functions are, among others: 1) opening the wedding ceremony while parading the groom to the bride’s house; 2) guarding or protecting the groom from various potential misfortunes and or dangers coming from outsider parties; and 3) showing that the groom belongs to higher, or mid to upper, social and economic classes. The balian song of advice is sung to accompany the groom walking down the aisle. The role is to help the groom steeling his heart and thus readying him to make any lovesake’s sacrifice for his future wife. The advice song functions, among other: 1) to open the pantun (local couplets equivalent to those of traditional English) to intentionally put off the upcoming groom, for such delay is deemed necessary to show the couple’s readiness to make common sacrifice in their later household and 2) to better prepare the future husband’s perseverance to overcome any oncoming difficulties. Thus, the digital recording and archieving of balian songs require both the government and society’s utmost cares and immediate acts as that digitalization of cultural assets can help protecting various Maanyanese Dayak’s cultural heritage, especially the balian songs, to all future generations.
