Abstract

ABSTRACTLately, media are spreading everywhere and the information provided is accessed by all the people around the world. Therefore, that information should be presented accurately. This research paper is aimed at identifying the role of commissive speech act in political news. Journalism language is used to split the information on political news.A lot of politicians use promises in their speeches to gain sympathy and trust from their audience, society. Promise, threat, guarantee, offer, and refusal are examples of the utterances done in commissive speech act.This research paper employed a qualitative method by analyzing the descriptive text of political news. The data are taken from political news in both language of source and target text after that the researcher analyzes to examine   commissive speech act found on political news text. In translating the political news, in order to get a good result in the target language, various techniques of translation are needed, such as transposition, generalization, amplification, and literal translation. There are no significant difficulties in translating political news. Still, if the message in the source text is not delivered correctly, the news will be considered a hoax.Keywords: commissive, speech act, political news, translation, equivalence.

Abstract

This article aims to describe (a) Teacher's Book Encourages Information Literacy and (b) Teacher's book Encourages the Improvement of Creative Critical Thinking Ability. The teacher's book contains a variety of information, from the procedures for using the book, the substance of learning materials, to comprehensive literacy content. In addition, the book must also be able to guide the teacher to be able to select and apply learning materials and strategies according to the times and needs of students. In addition, the book must also be able to guide teachers in order to grow and improve students' critical thinking skills and attitudes.Keywords: literacy information, teacher’s book, creative-critical thinking ability.

Abstract

Technology and education are different things, but in this modern era we all can see that these two things are inseparable and become necessities. This present study is aimed to know the students’ response toward utilizing Discord application as an online learning media in learning speaking at Senior High School. Therefore, This study investigates the effectiveness of the Discord application as an online learning medium, and also investigates the students' motivation to learn speaking skills while learning using the Discord application. This study uses a qualitative approach and uses an interpretative studies research design. Participants in this study involved 6 students' in 12th grade in Senior High School SMA Negeri 1 Cikarang Timur. Online observations, online interviews, and virtual documentation are used to obtain data as information or answers related to the research question. This research found that , the utilizing of the Discord application as an online learning media in speaking learning has several benefits and advantages. The discord application facilitates the convenience of students in the learning experience such as a very effective, practical, lighter application used in various smart phones because of its small size, has a Voice channel feature that allows interaction via voice in the discord room.Keywords : Discord Application, Student’s Response, Speaking.

Abstract

This study is aimed at finding out paragraph coherence.  It is descriptive content analysis. Thirteen thesis backgrounds were chosen purposively based on the supervisors’ recommendation. Data were analyzed by coding, specify ing, and comparing. Then, the results indicate that every paragraph uses various thematic progression patterns. The patterns include CT, ZT, MS, CR, CP, DT, MP, LC, CL, and EP. The pattern determines the coherence level of the paragraph.

Abstract

Most of the students have difficulties in writing. They had poor ability to arrange sentences in correct logical order and good paragraph structure. However, the previous studies showed that the problems of writing are not only based on the inability of the students to write, but also by the inappropriate method used by the teacher in the learning process. Most teachers do not know about what kind of best visual aid that can be applied to develop the learners’ ability in writing class. This research is looking at teacher’s and students’ perceptions of the implementation picture series in the writing classroom. For collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaires and interviews. All of the participants were third-grade students in SMP Negeri 1 Sumberlawang, in the Academic year 2019/2020. The researcher involved 16 students at eleventh-grade junior high school. This study is expected that the implementation of using picture series as a media in the learning process can be beneficial for teachers and students, such as improving the learners’ writing ability, improving students’ participation in the learning process, fun learning environment, and improving students’ writing interest.

Abstract

Folklore is one of the literary genres which is a cultural product of society and belongs to the community. As a cultural product, folklore contains noble cultural values that are upheld and respected by the people. The messages conveyed in the folklore contain character education values that should be emulated by the reading community. Therefore, folklore can be a vehicle for learning and character building in students that can be conveyed through literary learning. Literature learning must be able to generate and foster good moral values in students that can make students behave in an acceptable manner by the community. Literature learning must be able to develop critical, creative, polite, responsible, disciplined, respectful attitudes to students, both in relation to themselves, relationships with others, and relationships with worship. These individual, social and religious values can be found in folklore. Therefore, learning literature should put more emphasis on the appreciation of folklore to foster local wisdom values in students.Key words: folklore, literature learning, cultural character, student personality

Abstract

This study is aimed to find out students’ listening problems and listening strategies. The research type is qualitative research using questionnaires and interviews as the instruments. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze data obtained from the questionnaires, and interpretation of coding to analyze data from the interview script. The respondents were 31 pharmacy students involved in English for Pharmacy class and three of them were involved in a structured interview session.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the influence of caste on Balinese bridal make-up and explain a cultural wisdom on bridal make-up in Industrial Revolution 4.0. This research is a qualitative. Ethnography theory was used to analyze the data. There are three Balinese makeup styles, Madya Balinese Bridal Make-up for Weisa and Kstaria castes, Nista Bridal Make-up for the Sudra caste and Bali Agung Payas Bride for the aristocracy. Bridal make up is a medium of communication for Balinese culture.

Abstract

This study aims to discover the response of English studentsin writing activity using peer feedback method through Google Classroomm in Singaperbangsa Karawang University. This study conducted with descriptive qualitative design to analyze students’ skill in writing activity especially writing recount text. The participants of this study are English students from four grades in Singaperbangsa Karawang University who had applied peer feedback and used Google Classroom in their writing class. In collecting the data, the researcher conducted an interview based on her interview guidelines and documentation to confirm the data. Using peer feedback through Google Classroom in writing activity has many benefits. The study found that the use of peer feedback through Google Classroom gives a positive impact for the students. It has improved their writing skills and increased their motivation to write more and better.

Abstract

Purpose of this study First, describing cultural expression in spoken speech madura language and Indonesian among elementary/MI students. Second, describes the pattern of interaction and cultural expression that occurs in students with teachers, principals, and other stakeholders. This research method uses a qualitative approach that decrypts spoken speech of cultural and language expression. The type used by this study is phenomenological, which is to study the pattern of interaction process of oral speech of students as an expression of language and culture. Based on the results of research in the field in two schools namely SDN Keles and MI Miftahul Jannah speech or oral speech of students when interacting and communicating either with teachers or with fellow students, found several spoken speeches that included the cultural expression section of Madura language as the first language and Indoensia language as a second language.As the following Teachers and Students spoken speeches. Teacher: Big signs of doomsday, what? Student 1: Nabbu terompet. (H) Teacher: Drumben? (while joking). Student 2:  Munculla Imam Mahdi (I).
