Abstract

The implementation of science and technology for society aimed to give knowledge and methods of application that can answer all problems encountered by fish farmers. Low cost of  feed manufacturing methods and high quality utilizing local raw ingredients had been given through counseling and basic training so that fish farmers can continue going forward and do not rely on commercial feed from the market.  Practical sex reversal methods were given, intended that fish farmers could get male tilapia seeds having rapid growth.   Keywords: Fish farmer, Rap Rap Village, feed, eeed, Sex Reversal Methods

Abstract

We briefly describe the localized abalone (Haliotis asinina) fishery in Siquijor Island, central Philippines and discussed the possible reasons of the sudden collapse in local trade and fishery. The lack of management system may have contributed to over-exploitation of abalone leading to closure in 2012. Prior to the collapse in 2012, abalone gatherers spent an average of 4.18±0.15 hours/day/site with catch-per-unit-effort (CPUE) of H. asinina ranged from 0.1 to 0.6 kg/person/hr with mean value of 0.25±0.03 (SE) kg/person/hr. Recommendations to revive and sustain the abalone fishery of Siquijor Island are also provided.   Keywords: abalone, fishery, overharvesting, Siquijor

Abstract

The aims of this research were to determine the concentration of mercury, and knowing the water quality in aquaculture area of Manalu Bay Sangihe Islands Regency. The method used in determine the research station is purposive sampling method or deliberate sampling with consideration that station 1 is near the gold mine, station 2 is the area aquaculture activities and station 3 is far from the gold mean and aquaculture activities. The data used in this research were sourced from primary data (sea water sampling used a sampling technique for Hg testing and direct measurement of water quality parameter) and secondary data (journals, books and other supporting documents that support research). The result detected the concentration of Hg content at station 1, 2 and 3 were <0,0003 mg/l below the sea water quality standards for marine biota (0,001). The parameter quality data of the water are temperature ranged between 31-32 0C, pH 6,8-7,1 and salinity 32-34 ppt. In general, the presence of chemical physics parameters in Manalu Bay was good condition and suitable for aquaculture after being compared with Kep. MENLH No. 51/2014, Attachment III concerning Sea Water Quality Standards for Marine Biota.

Abstract

This  research aimed to study the influence of  different substrats on fertility and survival of catfish larva (Clarias Sp). This Research was conducted at Tatelu Village of  North Minahasa regency,  Province of North Sulawesi.  Experimental design used was Complete Randomized Design with four treatments including ijuk, Hydrilla, plastic rope, and control (without substrat), each with three replication. The result of this research showed that ijuk gave  significant effect on fertility and survival of  larva.   Fertility and survival of larva in this substrat achieved 77.58% and 87.33%  each. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to detect the presence of bacteria Aeromonas sp in tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Nine fish with an average body weight of 150-200 g were used in this study as samples. Sampling was conducted at three different locations which were representative of fish culture sites located on Lake Tondano. The number of sample gathered from each location was and 3 fish which were taken randomly. Fish samples were taken by using a scoop, then the samples were taken alive by placing in an oxygen-filled plastic separately and taken direcly to lab Fish Disease Control and Environmental Center, Tateli, Department of Marine and Fisheries of North Sulawesi province, for examination the presence of bacteria. Isolation of bacteria were conducted by taking samples from gill and kidney. This study was carried out from April - July 2013. Identification of the presence of bacteria was done through a series of observations of colony morphology and gram staining of bacteria, followed by a series of biochemical tests: oxidase test , catalase test , test TSIA , H2S production test , indole test , motility test , citrate test, and test O/F. It could be concluded that 22.22 % of farmed nile tilapia in Lake Tondano were infected with the Aeromonas sp with the following percentage from each site: Paleloan village 7.40% , 7.40% Toulimembet village, and 7.40% Eris village. Abstract

The aim of this study was determine the effect of temperature shock on hatching capability of the catfish eggs and its larval survivals.The study was conducted at the Board of Freshwater Aquaculture (BBAT ) in Tatelu  Dimembe District, North Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi Province. Twelve tanks were set in this experiment. Two hundred (200) eggs were put in each tank with controlled temperature of 25 C, 27 C , 29 C , and 32 ºC. Each temperature was replicated 3 times. The experimental design used in data analysis was completely randomized design (CRD).  The results showed that the treatment temperature showed significant effect on  hatching of  eggs, while the difference in temperature had no effect on the survival rate of catfish larvae.   Keywords:  Temperature shock, eggs, hatching capability, survival rate,  larvae, Clarias gariepinus.

Abstract

The field work training of silk worm culture was done in one month at Balai Perikanan Budidaya Air Tawar Tatelu (BPBAT), Province of North Sulawesi, from May to June, 2016.  The media used are poultry dung (chicken manure) and EM4 with a flowing water system and fed with additional tofu waste.  The initial spread of silk worm seeds was 75 g / m2, and the results obtained were silk worm biomass of 150 g / m2, with the measurement of water quality parameters for DO, temperature and pH are respectively 1.61 ppm, 24.4-27.7° C and 6.1-7.3.Keywords:  aquaculture, life feed, silk worm, Tubifex sp., water quality

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the growth of seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii cultivated with Eucheuma denticulatum with different composition. This research was carried out for six weeks, from March to April 2013, in the coastal waters of Sondaken village, Tatapaan District, South Minahasa regency, North Sulawesi. The experiment was designed according to completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications. The four tested treatments were the different composistion of tied seaweed in a long-line raft, where treatment A: 100% K. alvarezii, ; B: 50% K. alvarezii and 50% E. denticulatum, on each culture line, two types of algae were tied in sequence; C: 75% K. alvarezii and 25% E. denticulatum, in which in each line, every three bunch of K. alvarezii was followed by one bunch of E. denticulatum; D: 25% of K. alvarezii and 75% E. denticulatum, on each culture line, every three bunch of E. denticulatum was followed by one bunch of K. alvarezii. Each experimental unit was a 3m x 3,4m rectangular line raft containing four culture lines where the bunch of the tested seaweed were tied. Data collection was performed every two weeks by weighing the tested K alvarezii. The data were statistically analyzed (ANOVA) using JMP statistical program (SAS-institute). The results showed that absolut growth, relative growth and daily growth rate of K. alvarezii was not significantly affected by the tested treatments (Prob> F > 0.5). Thus, the occurence of E. denticulatum in whatever abundance in K. alvarezii cultivation area will not affect the growth of K. alvarezii. Keywords: Seaweed, K. alvarezii, E. denticulatum, growth

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the present feasibility of seaweed cultivation area at the waters of Arakan village. Research method used was observation. Observation  station consisted of 1) near residential area, 2) at seaweed culture area, 3) around mangrove ecosystem.  Data collected included area sheltering, bottom substrate, pH, salinity, flow rate, water depth.  Measurement of water quality was conducted in the morning and afternoon. Data was analyzed descriptively and then compared with the water quality tables eligibility for seaweed cultivation by Bakosurtanal 1996. Research results illustrated that cultivation areas at all station were feasible, water quality at station 1 was very feasible and station 3 was less feasible. pH and salinity at all station were very feasible, flow rates at station 1 and 3 were less feasible while at station 2 was very feasible, water depth was very feasible, and water temperature was categorized as feasible to very feasible.  It was concluded that  the present condition of the waters at Arakan Village is still suitable for seaweed aquaculture.   Keywords: Desa Arakan, seaweeds, water quality, area feasibility

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of ovaprim hormone, aromatase inhibitor and pituitary on the quality of the catfish eggs (Clarias gariepinus). Experimental Design used was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments, each with three replications. Treatment A: ovaprim; treatment B: Aromatase inhibitors, treatment C: hypophysis and treatment D: Control. The results showed that the difference in treatment gave highly significant effect on fertilization and hatching eggs but no significant effect on the survival rate of larvae. Aromatase inhibitor hormone was the best because it provided highly significant effect on fertilization (92.66%), hatchability of eggs (95%), and surviva rate (81.33%) of fish larvae.   Keywords : Clarias gariepinus.
