Abstract

Baby beans are one of Indonesia's export commodities, and one of their production centres is located in West Java, Lembang district. PT Asia Agro, a company engaged in horticultural export, cooperates with farms in Lembang Subdistrict to export baby beans. Like any other business, the post-harvest activities of baby beans have risks that potentially reduce the profits earned by PT Asia Agro. The existence of various risks requires an analysis of the sources of risk. This research was conducted with the aim of identifying different risk events in the post-harvest handling of baby beans and analysing the dominant risks. This research is a case study of Asia Agro, with qualitative descriptive analysis to explain the description of the business risks and quantitative analysis using House of Risk I to calculate the risks. Based on the research, Asia Agro's risk events were identified in the form of poor-quality products from suppliers, errors in the grading and packing process, quality degradation during temporary storage, and product damage at the export destination. In addition, there are 19 sources of risk, of which 10 are dominant, including successively from the first to the fifth order, namely: pests and diseases handling in the field is not optimal (14.50%), transportation of products using plastic or sacks (10.72%), products exposed to excessive heat during transport to the packing house (9.99%), sorting errors (9.73%), and errors during harvesting (6.71%). With 64.48%, the dominant risk is the production aspect, and 35.52% is included in the human resources aspect.

Abstract

The underrepresentation of young people in the agricultural sector is a pervasive phenomenon that has been observed across various continents. This phenomenon has significant consequences, including the underrepresentation of youth in the agricultural workforce and the subsequent aging of the sector's labor force. The factors that motivate young people to pursue careers in agriculture are multifaceted such as income opportunities, social status, government assistance, and the family environment. The objective of this paper is to identify the factors that influence youth interest in agriculture in paddy production center area. To this end, a questionnaire survey was conducted among youth who are children of rice farmers in Karangligar Village, Telukjambe Barat District, Karawang Regency and analyzed youth perceptions using Rasch Modeling. The results of the study indicate that strong factors that influence youth interest in the agricultural sector are social factors, farmer income, and land resources. The occupation of farmer is considered to have a great influence on society. Conversely, factors such as income, societal influences, family dynamics, and policy frameworks have been identified as deterrents to youth interest in pursuing careers in agriculture. The findings underscore the imperative for comprehensive support programs aimed at fostering interest and engagement among young people in the agricultural sector. Such initiatives should encompass the provision of adequate agricultural education, facilitation of business processes, and promotion of entrepreneurship, encompassing agricultural financing, production, and marketing of agricultural products.

Abstract

CV Bumi Agro Technology is a company that has been established since 2011 with a focus on potato and vegetable breeding. The potato plant (Solanum tuberosum L.) is a tuber plant that is rich in carbohydrates and can be used as a substitute for staple foods with very profitable potential. The problem with potatoes in West Java now is that the amount of productivity and production is decreasing, currently, the implementation of Smart Farming can be one of the systems implemented to utilize production inputs effectively and increase productivity by comparing the conventional production system with that of CV Bumi Agrotechnology which uses smart farming. This research aims to find out the application of Smart Farming by looking at the productivity and production of G0 potato seeds at CV Bumi Agro Technology and to find out the comparison of productivity, farming income, and the G0 potato seed production system with the application of Smart Farming and conventional at CV Bumi Agro Technology. This research is qualitative research with descriptive analysis. The results of this research show an increase in the amount of production and productivity which is supported by the assistance of Smart Farming by looking at the calculation of farming income analysis, namely R/C with a result of 1.54 which can be said to mean that the company makes a profit, while conventional farmers have a result of 1.33.

Abstract

Young people today often choose sugary beverages over healthier options made with fruit. A study examined the relationship between characteristics and knowledge and consumption of fermented beverages among Agribusiness students. Respondents generally had a high level of knowledge about fermented beverages, with yogurt being the most popular due to its taste. Most consumed fermented beverages once a week, with Cimory being the preferred brand. Statistical analysis revealed significant relationships between gender, residence, and pocket money with knowledge about types of fermented beverages, and between gender and residence with knowledge about their disadvantages. Additionally, significant relationships were found between gender and pocket money with types of fermented beverages consumed, frequency of illness with consumption frequency, and gender, residence, and illness with reasons for choosing specific brands.

Abstract

Shallot is an agricultural product that contributes greatly to the Indonesian economy. One of the main problems in shallot farming is the low ability of farmers to access credit. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence access to credit and understand the impact of credit on shallot production in Manggarai Regency. This study was conducted in Reok District, Manggarai Regency. The study site was specifically chosen taking into account that Reok District is the only shallot development area in Manggarai Regency. The sampling technique in this study used proportional quota sampling. The sample consisted of 50 farmers, consisting of 30 farmers who did not have access to credit, and 20 farmers who had accessed credit. The data analysis method used in this study is the Heckman selection model. The analysis of the Heckman selection model consists of two phases of analysis, namely the selection equation and the outcome equation. Based on the results of the analysis of the Heckman selection model, it is found that the factors that have a real impact on the credit availability of shallot farmers in Manggarai Regency are age, education, land area, number of household members and membership of farmer groups. farmers. In the second phase (outcome's equation), it is known that shallot production is significantly affected by labor input, pesticides and the amount of credit.  Research findings indicate a positive correlation between enhanced credit access and increased shallot production. Facilitating credit access for farmers can be a significant policy intervention to stimulate shallot production in Manggarai Regency. Therefore, initiatives are necessary to promote credit accessibility, especially from formal financial institutions.

Abstract

Garut sheep is a livestock commodity that has been designated as an indigenous breed of Garut Regency. This livestock has become part of most of the agricultural communities of Garut Regency. This research was conducted in August - September 2024 and was conducted in Tarogong Kaler District. The number of respondents who became the sample was 61 farmers. The analysis method used is the participation rate which is determined by the number of activities inside the farm and outside the farm. The participation index is the ratio between on-farm and off-farm activities compared to the standard eight-hour workday. Based on the description of the research results, it shows that the participation of fathers, mothers, and children in the Garut family sheep farming business is dominated by the father as the person in charge of the family. Mothers and children have not contributed significantly in helping in the family farm. This condition affects the participation index value of each family member, where the father has a high participation index value compared to the child and mother.
