Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the financial feasibility and break even point on the cattle's breeding  farms. Taking place in  the three sites in the rural areas with the highest, moderate and lowest on population of beef cattle, such as  villages of Kemejing, Candirejo , and  Pundungsari all of them  in the district of Semin, Gunung Kidul regency, Yogyakarta. This study was conducted in September up to October 2011. The  using methode of survey to collect primary data from 60 farmers respondents and secondary data from relevant agencies. Sample was determined by purposive sampling. Financial analysis of the cattle's breeding farms using investment criteria such as a benefit cost ratio (BCR), net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), payback period of credit (PPC), and the break even point (BEP) based on 8 years investment with a discount factor of 12% per year. The analysis showed that the BCR value of 1.61; NPV of   12.308.146,72; IRR of 23.40%; PPC for 4.53 years and the BEP value is based on sales amounted to Rp 25,991,672.10 or based on 6 heads of animal units. The conclusion of this study is a cattle's breeding farms in dryland farming areas are eligible to run with BEP on 6 heads of beef cattle

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of farmers’ affection on adoption of innovation. The respondents used in this study were the members of Sido Rejo and Sido Mulyo groups in Bantul who had already obtained information about the innovation of compost. This research was conducted census through interviews of the object of research to obtain primary data. The influence of farmers’ affection on adoption of innovation was analyzed descriptively with sosiogram method. The results showed that both groups have one click with opinion leaders of each group leader. The conclusion of this study is the leader of the group is still the main direction in the dissemination of information in this regard as opinion leaders. Abstract

The study was conducted to determine population dynamic, productivity, and output of Madura cattle in a conservation area of Sapudi Island. The number of respondents was 108 farmers and 361 heads of madura cattle taken from six (6 villages). The sampling technique used accidental sampling method and data was counted by descriptive analysis. The results showed that S/C 1,68±0,87 times, calving interval 14,56±2,15  months, and the efficiency reproductive value (ER) was 93,21%. natural increase (NI) value of Madura cattle in Sapudi Island in 2014 was 27.96%. Net replacement rate (NRR) value of sire and dam of cattle were 96,18 % dan 126,41% respectively. Output estimation was 30,75% population dynamic of maduracattle in 2015 to 2019 has estimated that will be decreased 566 heads or -0.09% per year. It was concluded that the population in Sapudi Island has been dumped and the need for replacement bulls is not fulfilled. Therefore action should be taken to reduce the expenditure of livestock, especially bulls and provide the supporting infrastructure which supports it, one of the most required right now is the availability of feed and water infrastructure.

Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate the results of selection in Aceh cattle candidatebull using breeding value (BV) and selection index (SI) methods. The Secondary data in this research was records data from 2010 to 2013 and consisted of family tree, birth and body weight records at Indrapuri’s Breeding and Forages Centre (IBFC) of Aceh Cattle. Data records collected for estimate heritability nor the genetic and phenotypic correlations. The research showed that heritability value of weaning weight (WW), yearling weight (YW) and final weight (FW) included high category. Genetic correlation between WW with YW and FW were positively moderate. The concluded of this research was 48 % heifers had same rank on BVFW and SI from 29 heifers. Index selection method could be use for livestock selection criteria.Key words: Aceh cattle, breeding value, selection index, heritability, genetic correlations

Abstract

The research was purposed to know the levels of pineapple extract addition (Ananascomosus L. Merr) with bromelin compound, cooking time and the interaction between two factors on the shear force, the tensile strength, pH, water holding capacity (WHC) and cooking loss (CL) of post production duck meat. The experiment used 18 Mojosari duck with average age 84 weeks. The samples for shear force and tensile strength used drum stick, pH, WHC and CL exam used thigh. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance from Completely Randomized Design (CRD) of Factorial Pattern 4 × 3, with factor of pineapple extract addition (0, 5, 10, 15 %) and cooking time (0, 30, 60 minutes). There were interactions between pineapple extract addition and cooking time on pH, WHC and CL (P<0.01) and tensile strength (P<0.05). The addition of pineapple extract and cooking time improved tenderness, pH, WHC and decreased CL of duck meat. The addition of pineapple extract at 15% and cooking time 60 minutes produced the best quality of duck meat.Key words: pineapple extract, cooking time, meat, post production duck, physical quality

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the use of black cumin and antibiotics on carcassweight and abdominal fat of broilers during summer seasons. The material in this study were used 100 individuals unsex one-day old broiler strain CP 707, and the ration of broiler were added black cumin powder (BCP). The ration consisted of yellow corn, rice brand, soybean meal,palm oil, fish meal, calsium and top mix. The diet was protein energy with 22.91% protein and 2,994 kcal/kg for starter and 20,01% protein and 3.054kcal/kg for finisher. Experiment was conducted as a completely randomized design with 5 treatments (control, antibiotic without BCP, 2% BCP, 4%BCP and 6% BCP). Carcas weight and abdominal fat was measured on at 28 day of age. The resulted data was analysed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) with F test to know the effect of treatment, and when there were significant continous to Duncan multiple range test. The results showed that addition of black cumin (Nigella sativa) and antibiotics as a feed additive in ration cannot increase carcass weight and peesentase abdominal fat of broilers during summer seasons. level of black cumin 2-6% in the feed has the same ability to antibiotics against carcass weight and percentage of abdominal fat of broilers.Key words: Broiler, antibiotic, carcass weigth, abdominal fat

Abstract

The research was aimed to observe the effect of antemortem injection dose of crude papain, muscle part and its interaction on physical and organoleptic qualities post production laying hen meat. The sample used were the breast and thighs from 20 hens on average age 82 weeks. Completely Randomized Design (CRD) used Factorial Pattern 4 x 2. Factor A consisted A1: without papain (control); A2: 1 mg papain/ kg BW; A3: 2 mg papain/ kg BW and A4: 3 mg papain/ kg BW, factor B consisted B1: breast muscle and B2: thigh muscle. The datas were analyzed by Analysis of Variance and continued by Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The results showed that injection of crude papain dose gave highly significant difference (P<0.01) to all variables except tensile strength (P<0.05). Body parts gave highly significant difference (P<0.01) on shear force, tensile strength, WHC, cooking loss, organoleptic (shear force, texture and juice), and hedonic (P<0.05). The interaction was found between injection of crude papain dose and body part on WHC, organoleptic and hedonic (P<0.01), cooking loss (P<0.05). Dose of 3 mg/kg WB in thigh and breast meat has the best quality and the organoleptic quality of the combination of papain injection of 3 mg/kg WB in breast meat and 2 mg/kg WB in thigh meat has the best quality.Keywords: antemortem injection, crude papain, physical and organoleptic quality, post productionlaying hen meat

Abstract

Sebagai plasma nutfah Nasional, keberadaan sapi Bali perlu dipertahankan dan dimanfaatkan secara lestari-produktif; sebab memiliki beberapa keunggulan spesifik. Pengadaan sapi Bali bibit dapat diperoleh melalui pengembangan Village Breeding Center. Namun tampaknya belum ada program pemuliaan yang jelas dan terarah; karena rekording belum dilakukan secara lengkap, benar, dan berkesinambungan. Proyek Perbibitan dan Pengembangan Sapi Bali (P3Bali) yang mengemban memperbaiki mutu sapi Bali dan menghasilkan sapi pejantan unggul, tampaknya belum efektif. Suatu kegiatan dan kajian tentang sistem manajemen breeding sapi Bali (metode survei dan deep interviev) telah dilakukan di P3Bali dan instansi terkait (Agustus - Nopember 2004). Fenotip sapi Bali di P3Bali, di Instalasi Populasi Dasar (IPD) Kabupaten Tabanan dan di Kabupaten Karangasem masih relatif seragam. Pertumbuhan maksimal yang didasarkan ukuran statistik vital (tinggi gumba, panjang badan, lingkar dada) dan bobot badannya, dicapai pada kelompok umur PI-4, dan selanjutnya relatif tidak ada pertumbuhan. Performansnya di IPD dan di Kabupaten Karangasem relatif lebih baik daripada di P3Bali; bahkan selama 9 tahun terakhir menunjukkan kecenderungan yang semakin menurun. Sistem seleksi untuk calon induk atau pejantan telah mengikuti prosedur yang standar (performance test dan progeny test); tetapi tidak ditemukan silsilah dari ternak yang terjaring. Namun kriteria seleksi bobot badan masih sangat longgar (140 – 160 kg).  Adanya pemasukan sapi baru setiap tahun di P3Bali, dapat menetralisir upaya perbaikan mutu genetik hasil seleksi yang telah terkonsentrasi; sehingga secara time-series tampak tidak ada peningkatan performans produksi. dan mutu genetiknya. Adanya skema breeding di P3Bali yang sudah memenuhi standar, belum banyak diterapkan di lapang. Kurang lengkapnya rekording tidak dapat menghindari inbreeding; dan dengan intensitas seleksi yang rendah, tampak tidak ada kemajuan genetik dalam program seleksi (uji progeni untuk karakter bobot sapih dan bobot badan umur 1 tahun). Kata kunci : sistem manajemen, breeding, sapi Bali

Abstract

The research was done to study the potential of ketepeng leaf meal and lemuru fish oil as agents to reduce methane production. The composition of feed supplements, lamtoro leave meal (LLM), urea (U) and mollases (M) were in different ratios: 1:5, 1:6 and 1:7 and ketepeng leaf meal (DKM) and lemuru fish oil (MIL). The feed supplement was added to the native grass as a basal diet, P1: U: M = 1:5, DKM, P2: U: M = 1:5, MIL, P3: U: M = 1:6, DKM, P4: U: M = 1:6, MIL, P5: U: M = 1:7, DKM, P6: U: M = 1:7, MIL. Research was done with in vitro gas technique. Inoculum was taken from rumen fluid of a fistulated male cow, which was taken before feeding in the morning. Rumen fluid pH did not significantly different, indicating the microbial fermentation in rumen run well and normally were not affected by the treatment. The VFA production of P5 and P6 was significantly lower than P1, P2, P3 and P4 (P <0.05). Production of C2 and C3 were relatively the same except for P6 (P <0.05) which relative higher. Ratio of C2/C3 and inversely related C3, when C3 production increased the C2/C3 ratio decreased (P <0.05). Methane production of P6 was higher but did not different with P4 and P5. It can be concluded that diet which produced low methane was the native grass supplemented with urea and molases at ratio 1: 5 contained either ketepeng leaf meal or lemuru fish oil.
