Abstract

The purpose of science learning is to master knowledge, understand and apply the concept of science, apply the skills of the science process and develop the attitude of science. Biology is a part of science, so to achieve the goal in the learning must be in accordance with the nature of science, namely science as a process, product, attitude, and application. Assessment of the achievement of knowledge competence is an assessment of students' intellectual/cognitive potential in biology learning, for which a valid and reliable assessment instrument is required. The assessment instrument reviewed here is a written test instrument. Written tests for measuring cognitive abilities can be distinguished into tests for measuring low-level cognitive abilities and measuring high-level cognitive abilities including analytical thinking skills. Analytical thinking skills is very important as a basis in solving problems faced by students especially in Biology learning. Therefore, teachers need to train students with problem-based learning solving and practice questions in the form of higher order thinking test. The form of higher order thinking test can be a choice test (chosen response test) that can measure analytical thinking skills in high school biology learning with respect to substantial aspects, constructs and language.

Abstract

As a plant that is easy to grow, banana tree (Musa spp.) is an abundant tree in tropical countries. Banana tree is only able to bear fruit once in its lifetime and the waste of banana pseudo-stems are also existed in a large number. The cellulose content in the banana pseudo-stems can be utilized as a source of raw material for the manufacture of nanocellulose. This study aims to develop teaching strategy which introduce the process of nanocellulose isolation from banana pseudo-stem through a dissolve method using ionic liquid. The research method is the content analysis using the content validation format as the research instrument. The isolation process involves several school chemistry concepts as such as water evaporation, hydrolysis process, factors influencing reaction rate, intermolecular interaction, and colloid. Thus, this context has a potential to be integrated into school chemistry learning. Beside it, this context also has a potential to introduce the principles of green chemistry except catalysis principle.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the sustainability concept in the framework of prospective teachers on female reproductive system materials to improve the ability of students' science literacy. The study used two classes which are selected randomly as an experimental class, in one of the local high school in Grobogan District. Biology teacher candidates integrate the three aspects of sustainability those are socio-cultural, economic, and environmental in PCK as seen in the CoRe document, learning tools and female reproductive system as learning's material. Students have to answer science literacy questions before and after learning session. Science literacy abilities use level 1 to level 3. The answer scores consist of three assessment criteria, namely "full credit" = score 3, "partial credit" = scores 1 and 2, and "no credit" = 0. This study shows that the context of sustainability in prospective teacher PCKs on female reproductive system materials can increase the average score of the students. In line with the higher level of abilities will lead to a higher percentage in full credit achievement. However, the higher level of achievement still results in lower full credit.
