Abstract

Alqurun Teaching Model (ATM) is a new learning model that has been implemented in several schools (junior and senior high schools). To ensure that ATM has an influence on mathematical ability, a meta-analysis was carried out by calculating the effect size. This descriptive study aims to analyze the effect size of ATM on students' mathematical abilities. The research subjects were 16 research students mathematics education at Faculty Teacher and Training Education, Lampung University. The research data were obtained through observation of 979 students. Data were analyzed descriptively through 3 simultaneous stages, namely (1) identification/coding of data, (2) calculating effect sizes, and (3) interpreting effect sizes according to certain criteria. The results of data analysis show that (1) the overall effect size of ATM on students' mathematical abilities is 1.00 (high) when compared to the problem based learning model of 0.63 (moderate), discovery learning model of 0.76 (moderate), and a project based learning model of 0.63 (moderate), (2) categorically: (i) ATM is predicted to be better implemented at the SMA level than SMP, (ii) ATM is predicted to be better at using LKPD media than teaching materials and PPT media, and (iii) ATM is predicted to provide higher learning outcomes in understanding concepts than communication, representation, and mathematical problem solving. Based on the results of this analysis, it is concluded that ATM can be used as an alternative to the mathematics learning model in the 2013 curriculum

Abstract

Motivation to learn is an encouragement that triggers students to learn so that the learning process leads to the goals to be achieved. Without motivation in students, the learning objectives are difficult to achieve. The type of jigsaw cooperative learning model aims to increase students' thinking power, a higher sense of responsibility and curiosity. The jigsaw cooperative learning model is a group learning system that pays attention to equity such as gender and intellectuality. Each group member needs each other and has the responsibility of mastering the material with the expert group and presenting the results of the discussion to the home group then they take turns with other group members. The responsibility for mastering the material for each individual will encourage students to learn in order to master the material. The type of data collection in this research is literature review which aims to find out how the jigsaw cooperative learning model is used to increase motivation to learn mathematics. Data collection techniques were obtained from several relevant sources related to the research being studied. From several sources obtained, it is stated that the results of research on the application of the type of jigsaw cooperative learning model in classroom learning activities can help students increase learning motivation

Abstract

This study discusses the ability to understand algebraic concepts that are reviewed from two learning mottos, namely between problem solving learning and expository. This experimental study uses the non-equivalent posttest-only control group design because the two groups to be analyzed are different (non-equivalent). The treatment given to this sample group of research is problem solving method and others using expository method. SMA Negeri 3 Pematangsiantar class XIPA is the population selected in this study which amounted to 244 people and as a sample are students of grade XIPA-6 and XIPA-7 students selected using random sampling cluster method that has been declared normal and homogeneous. The instrument used is an essay test that amounts to 10 valid and reliable questions so that it is eligible to be used as a test instrument. This study used t-test (difference of two averages) to determine the difference between the two research data. The results of this study showed that there are significant differences in the ability to understand algebraic concepts when reviewed from problem solving learning and expository methods as found from the results of statistical tests of this study. The difference between the two methods is also shown by the percentage of students' learning completion in solving concept comprehension problems.

Abstract

This research is a descriptive study. The research objective was to describe the reflective abstraction process experienced by students. The research subject was a class VIII student. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The subjects were chosen because they considered their communication skills which were quite good compared to their peers, making it easier for researchers to explore data. In addition, the selected subjects were students with very satisfying academic achievements compared to their classmates. This study examines and explains the reflective abstraction that the subject does in solving the number sequence problem. The focus of research is the process of reflective abstraction which includes interiorization, coordination, reversal, encapsulation, and generalization. The results showed that the reflective abstraction stage did not guarantee arriving at the correct solution. In this study the subject performs all stages of reflective abstraction starting from interiorization, coordination, reversal, encapsulation, and generalization, but the final solution is wrong. This phenomenon is said to be pseudo-reflective abstraction or pseudo-reflective abstraction.

Abstract

This study aims to apply the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) learning model using TIMSS question worksheets on algebraic content to measure solving abilities. The population in this study were all VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Pangkajene totaling 180 students and a sample of 32 students who were taken using simple random technique. The instruments in this study were 1) worksheets on TIMSS questions; 2) Test problem solving skills; 3) Interview guidelines. The data will be analyzed descriptive quantitative and inferential analysis. The results obtained: 1) students 'problem solving abilities (pretest) according to the aspects assessed in the TIMSS were analyzed descriptively in moderate interpretation, which was 10 students or 33% of 32 students, while the students' problem solving abilities (posttest) were at high interpretation which was equal to 17 students or 54% of 32 students. The normalized gain test result is 0.52, which means that the increase in student learning outcomes taught by the CPS learning model is in the medium category. 2) The average percentage of students who responded positively to the application of the CPS model was 81%. 3) Inferential, the application of the CPS learning model is complete classically and has a boost to increase the gain of 0.3 or there is an increase in the average normalized gain value significantly so that this model is good for use in mathematics learning at SMP Negeri 1 Pangkajene.

Abstract

Mathematical communication ability of collegers can differ based on the learning model applied. The peer teaching model and CTL are models that can be used as alternatives to see the differences in collegers' mathematical communication ability. The difference in the abilities of these students can not only be seen from the choice of models but also based on gender. Gender can be a benchmark for determining understanding of mathematical communication. The study intends to look at differences in understanding of collegers' mathematical communication based on gender and presence or absence a relationship of peer teaching and CTL with gender on understanding of collegers' mathematical communication. This type of research is a quasi experiment with the research sample involving two classes. The first class applies the peer teaching model while the second class applies the CTL model. The research data came from a test of collegers' mathematical communication skills. Analysis of research data in the form of descriptive analysis and inferential analysis using Two-Way ANOVA. Research proves that there are differences in collegers 'understanding of mathematical communication based on gender and there is no relationship between peer teaching and CTL with gender on collegers' understanding of mathematical communication. Male collegers are better able to communicate mathematical in written form in written text 52% and mathematical expressions 54% while female collegers are better able to communicate in drawings 55%.
